China-made dumplings allegedly containing pesticides have sickened 175 in Japan, the latest blow to China's reputation for producing consumer goods.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura confirmed the information Thursday. Kyodo News earlier said the figure had risen to almost 500, citing its own calculation.

Phone calls to the Chinese company alleged to have caused the crisis, Tianyang Food, a unit of Hebei Food Import & Export Group, were not answered.

If you ever heard any of the stories of food adulterations occurring in China you'd never eat anything coming from that country again.

to just blindly "blame" China is ridiculous and short-sighted. here's the truth about ALL processes:

YOU EITHER PAY THE REAL COST OF THE PRODUCT UP FRONT, OR YOU PAY THE REAL COST LATER.

this means that if you falsely under-price coal, big agra, nukes, cars, sweatshop goods, fish, etc. (and, even more revoltingly bolster them with subsidies from your taxes), then the planet pays the price with global warming, war, scarcity, poverty, disease, toxic runnoff, fish shortages, mercury and other poisoning, etc.

it has been the US' pyramid scheme for the past century to privatize the profits and socialize the costs, but just like matter is neither created nor destroyed, TRUE costs of goods and services can not be left unpaid - we either pay them now or pay them later (usually in a much more expensive way like superfund cleanups, deaths, medical bills, carbon sequestration projects, financial aid, extinction of species, etc.). even so-called "renewable power," if it proceeds on the path we are on, will kill off millions and millions of acres of pristine wilderness so it will be cheaper for utilities, but the cost to the planet is unconscionable!

the only way to address this is to create a SUSTAINABLE economy. we only trade with partners who maintain LIVING WAGES, HEALTHY WORKING CONDITIONS, and STRONG ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS. Fair trade, organic, non-sweatshop goods. and we only buy energy which is produced with RENEWABLE RESOURCES (sun/wind) and which DOES NOT HARM ANY WILDERNESS.

MAKE YOURSELVES HEARD TO YOUR ELECTED REPS - NOW IS THE TIME THEY ARE GOING TO LISTEN!

wow, I'm surpreised at all of the racism here but the fact is that China is still a communist country and all communist countries are abusive toward their own people and couldn't care less about anyone else. The chinese government is occupied by "get rich quick" power brokers who are no differnt than our own. Greed does not know nationality, race, or religion - it only knows greed. Those people who buy Chinese products because they are cheaper are merely part of the problem and have no reason to complain.
Stop the racism because we are part of the problem.

There are many food products imported from China. The food products may have the same "quality standards" as their hand tools. In any case, they have to answer to no one.

Nothing coming out of China is ever going to be safe, not ever.

My son worked there for a year on a project for a major firm here in the U.S., and he said he and other young engineers and project managers from the U.S., Australia, South America and the U.K. would go into meetings with Chinese subcontractors and and they were offered bribes at every meeting, to see it "the Chinese way." He and the younger guys all refused and just held the Chinese to what they were supposed to be doing.

They did feel that a number of the older supervisors, mostly Americans, did take bribes in the form of money, liquor, expensive entertainment and WOMEN, however.

He and his friends told me that everything was filthy, polluted, and the Chinese were absolutely devoid of any understanding or desire to use proper safety and other regulations.

We should force the inspection of all Chinese foodstuffs, and hammer at pharmaceutical companies not to use Chinese ingredients or manufacture there.

Well if they're using the dumplings as ashtrays when then making them then no surprise here.

No surprise there. Perhaps rabies infected rat meat isn't a good idea for dumplings.

They supply 60% of our food. Have taken on 80% of our money supply.

The very people the United States treated as dirt from day one in the US.
The ones that built the railroads, the ones aloud to cook and clean and do our laundry.
The ones who owen San Francisco.

The ones who could only live in the shadows and corners of the US.

Now!
What next?
