Michelle Williams Breaks Her Silence About Ledger: "My Heart Is Broken"

Michelle Williams released her first statement since the death of former fiancee Heath Ledger. The pair have a two-year-old daughter Matlida Rose.

"Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him."

The pair met on the set of "Brokeback Mountain" and split late last summer after three years together.

Heath Ledger's death was so sad for millions of people not simply because the parts he played - particularly Ennis Delmar in 'Brokeback Mountain' - were so touching and brilliant, but because he was a good man who was so obviously fulfilling his talent. This is why the few real artists among us are loved and celebrated: their gifts belong not only to them, but enrich the inner lives of the audience as well.

Michelle Williams, I hope your broken heart mends soon, to the extent it can mend after such a shocking loss. Deepest condolences to you, to Heath's family, and to your sweet daughter. I look forward to seeing you in your next film.

I feel for this young woman who tried so hard to save the love of her life.
In the end she chose to put herself and her child first, which is the right choice, and very difficult to do.

Michelle, I pray for you and your daughter. It is extremely important that you get some mental health for Mitlda. My youngest brother and sister lost our father at a very young age. My brother never recovered from that experience. It followed him to the day he died at 40 yrs old. He never would talk about it. You be surprised how hard it was to face life.

I was so moved reading this statement as it is the best tribute anyone could receive amongst all the hype and over reporting this sad event has generated.

I am a big fan of Heath and Michelle's work and sad that we have lost his talent, charm, and presence so early. Still we have his impressive and good body of work, but most importantly a wonderful daughter who will be the best of both of them and that is the best tribute to Heath Ledger I could imagine.
