Colin Farrell is out right now doing press for "In Bruges," a darkly comic tale of two hit men exiled to the Belgian city of canals after a job gone wrong. The film opens Friday, but wasn't the only project on his mind.

During Monday's New York junket at the Regency Hotel, Farrell was asked about his other recent films including Woody Allen's current "Cassandra's Dream" and the endlessly upcoming "Pride and Glory," a gritty cop tale filmed in 2006. So what's to blame for the film's problems? The Nicole Kidman flop "The Golden Compass."

Farrell, who alternatively sipped from and ashed into a cup of water on the table in front of him, pointedly spoke to 'Pride and Glory's" holding pattern.

"They pushed it just now to 2009. [A reporter starts to speak, Farrell interrupts] I was going to say it's not because, there's this rumor going around that it's because it's a mess or it's a really bad film.

I feel the need to kind of speak up, not from my own end but genuinely for Gavin O'Connor because he wrote and directed it.

It's just a really really strong piece, but I think New Line lost the bollocks on "The Golden Compass," you know love, and they literally don't have enough money to market things.

"Pride" is a tricky one to market anyways. It's pretty dark... I've seen it. Gavin did a great job and you know, Jon Voight is brilliant in it, and Ed [Norton] is great in it and a really strong cast of supporting characters... It's a really strong piece."

So there you go. "Pride and Glory" is fantastic, the problem is that "The Golden Compass" was not. Farrell also had plenty to say about the joys of making "Bruges," more of which is to come.

Just curious...why does anyone posting here give a shite about ANY of this?

I honestly don't understand who it is that is propping up Farrel's career. I saw a preview of the Woody Allen flick the other day. It looked...not so great. But what I really want to know is- why on earth are they giving Colin Farrell billing over Ewan McGregor? Colin Farrell has starred in critical flop after finacial flop after critical flop...Alexander, The New World, Daredevil? He's had one major box office hit- Miami Vice. Meanwhile, McGregor is a critically acclaimed actor who also, by they way, starred in three of the most commercially successful films of all time- and he gets second billing? What happened to good ol' Hollywood economics?

Colin Farrell, that B.O. king (not!), knocking The Golden Compass? The picture may have been sabotaged by the shrieking, ignorant Christian right in the US, but it made more than $300 million worldwide (which puts it on a paar worldwide with Enchanted, which nodody called a flop) and that's before the DVD release, etc. Huffposts's constant trashing of Kidman and any movie that doesn't kiss the ass pf the patriarchy makes me think they've been body swapped by Repub pod people. It's repellent -- did anyone call Sweeney Todd a flop, though it sank at the box office? No Country for Old Men is critical hit (with male critics, natch) but it's been pathetic at the box office.

Huffpost is starting to smell like a right wing front.

What's Colin Farrell's problem?
"New Line lost the bollocks on "The Golden Compass," what exactly does this mean?

Golden Compass a flop? Would you call $326 million currently worldwide a flop???? Its a Nicole Kidman blockbuster! And I'm not even a particular fan, but I loved this movie.

Since when did any of his pictures not bomb??? He's got a nerve.

I saw Golden Compass with my daughter and we were entertained. The movie was not the best we have seen but is was far from the worse. Since, we have read the rest of the stories and hope for the next two books to be on the big screen. For Colin Ferrell to blame this movie for New Line to postpone his film is NUTS. Colin Ferrell is NOT a draw on the big screen. Maybe New Line is afraid his movie will be a flop for its own merit. I think he just wants to see his name in print.

I hope The Golden Compass does well enough to justify the sequels being made. I've never read the series but I thought the film was amazing.
As for Colin Farrel. I like him. I don't like him. I don't care. Take your pick. He has no effect on my life.

I can't think of one redeeming thing about Colin Farrell, including his acting. Not impressive. And the man just does not know how to take responsibility for anything. Instead, he blames a children's film. Could the problem be with "Pride and Glory" and NOT with money spent on promoting "Golden Compass" (which I enjoyed, BTW)?

Pretzel logic.
Yes, he is the center of the entire universe, and everything ever done in the world, by anybody is the reason he isn't being proclaimed the great 'Artiste" that he is!
Complaining is so easy, cheap...god what a chump!

The Golden Compass isn't a flop. Yes, domestic box office went to sleep and forgot the movie, but at last count,it made a lot of money where many of us thought it would...International box office.

The movie has made $323 million worldwide.
