Senate Democratic leaders have summoned presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Barack Obama, D-Ill., to the Senate Wednesday for a 5:45 p.m. vote on a Democratic-backed economic stimulus bill.

The measure needs 60 votes to pass and right now the outcome is too close too call, according to senators and aides on both sides of the aisle.

As a 40 year-old white dude that really, really admires Hillary Clinton, I voted yesterday for Obama, hoping that I was bucking the racial divide-- only to find out that I was part of a gender trend. I just can't understand all the vitriol spewed out at these candidates, they're both extraordinary, and as a lifelong Democrat, I've never been more pleased with my party's options.

I was living in Spain when Zapatero was running against Aznar, and I was also vexed by the constant barrage of insults aimed at Zapatero by his own constituency (not to mention the opposing party). He was called a weak, no-lipped, effete, a policy wonk, an ineffectual, potentially corrupt loser, and no match for the conservative Aznar. Then there was the attack in Madrid, and the Socialists won several days later.

Several years later, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has proven he's a qualified leader, and arguably the most successful in post-Franco Spain- still with very little lip tissue.

I hope they use this as a time to work across the aisle on the fisa bill. Lets see how good they really are. They are relevant and those rep should listen .
I voted Obama. (in Missouri)
But the ticket needs be Clinton/Obama . Combine their strengths . Hold the wh for 16 yrs. And give Edwards a job for 16 yrs as attorney general supoening all of the rep for every crime they have done and cost them millions in defending themselves. Then appoint him to the Supreme Court first chance they have. This should be the future.

Both Obama and Clinton want to present themselves as economic saviors. To me, that means economically responsible.

Will EITHER one dare speak out and say, "The emperor's got no clothes?"

This stimulus package is simply vote-buying.

Unless you too believe that giving folks some money to pay off debt or buy foreign-made consumer goods will jump-start an economy saddled by bad debt, personal or national.
