Top House Republicans were told in recent days that a former employee of their campaign committee may have forged an official audit during the contentious 2006 election cycle and that they should brace for the possibility that an unfolding investigation could uncover financial improprieties stretching back several years, according to GOP sources briefed on the members-only discussions.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has retained a forensic auditor to review its accounting for the last several election cycles, the sources said.

I used to think I knew how to spell the word "fraud". It's actually spelled "GOP". The past seven years has been a stupendous fraud perpetrated on a gullible nation by con-men, political hit-men, corporate pirates, filthy rich execs desperate to become richer, utterly corrupt contractors, banks and mortgage lenders ready to to commit all sorts of questionable activities to increase their bottom line. The idea that a Repub accountant might be capable of fraud is hardly surprising. It's par for the course for Repubs. The true drag is that it's also par for Demos. They're all corrupt, by commision or ommision. Our entire government is wholly owned by a range of ultra-rich and mega-powerful conglorates whose interests are diametrically opposed to the interests of 98% of the American people. The GOP's nervous? I can't imagine why. They've gotten away with murder for years now, without real consequences. Why should this scandal be any different.
