Romney Spent More Than $1 Million Per Delegate

Republican campaign operatives call it the Gramm-o-meter, the money a candidate spends per delegate won, in honor of Phil Gramm, the former Texas senator who spent $25 million and won just 10 delegates, or $2.5 million per, in 1996.

By Republican strategist Alex Vogel's calculation, Mitt Romney is giving Gramm a run for his money. The former Massachusetts governor has spent $1.16 million per delegate, a rate that would cost him $1.33 billion to win the nomination.

By contrast, Mike Huckabee's campaign has been the height of efficiency. Delegates haven't yet been officially apportioned, but roughly speaking, each $1 million spent by Huckabee has won him 20 delegates.

Giuliani spent $40 million for **ONE** delegate. Way to go Mr. I'm-a-great-manager! He's basically bought his page in the Guinness Book of Records... ;)

As Oscar Wilde (He was Gay you know.) put it so well, "A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." I quite agree with the earlier post, Edwards was the only hope for true change in this country and the MSM was not about to let him survive.

LOL, thanks libs. You confirmed my suspicion.

This headline is blatantly wrong. Romney has more than 250 delegates and has spent less than 100 million dollars.

The fact that 17 libs post here after accepting such an obviously flawed headline unquestioned shows a lot.

You know what? Let Romney give me a million dollars. I'll vote for him and then use the money to high-tail it out of this corporate-owned country.

I no longer have a dog in this race since the corporate MSM ran Edwards out with its non-coverage of him and his policies. Anyone who thinks the corporations--and especially the corporate MSM is going to allow a woman or a black man to become President is delusional. What they want is a money-sucking, business-loving white man--and that's what they'll get. Democracy, my Aunt Tootie's boot!

So cough up the dough, Romney--I've got my eye set on a sea-voyage to Europe.

I always thought Mitt & his Five Little Chickenhawks were a bad visual for a candidate who enthusiastically supports the Iraq invasion/occupation & future internation follies.

Careening around in a Winnebago is not equivalent to serving in a combat zone.

I'm glad The Fighting Romneys have met their Waterloo.

Has anyone noticed that ultra-conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Grover Norquist permit candidates any number of gross heresies when it comes to flip-flopping on abortion, gay rights, God, and even guns, but when it comes to tax cuts and hurting the poor, they are uncompromising.

Mitt Romney ran as a social LIBERAL in Massachusetts -- first for Senate, then for Governor. He not only backed abortion rights and gay rights, he explicitly stated in campaign literature and on TV ads that he would champion them. His assurances were categorical and unambiguous. And that wasn't 30 years ago. That was in the 1990s and 2000s.

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are willing to forgive those sins because "conservatism" to them isn't really about social issues, it's about MONEY -- keeping the rich rich, allowing the middle class to stagnate and shrink, and relegating the poor to the garbage dump.

Social and religious conservatives are just convenient devices for them -- stooges that they use to get economic ultra-conservatives elected, so they can continue to propel us on this libertarian road to nowhere and parasitize the economy on the backs of America's working people.

Sure, Limbaugh, Coulter and the rest profess social conservatism, and they are happy with the right-wing social agenda. But it never gets in the way of the real prize for them -- an economic libertarian agenda that constantly reduces taxes on the rich and big business -- and slams the middle class and the poor.

To them, McCain is an apostate because he voted against Bush's Holy Tax Cuts. This is the only kind of heresy which is unforgivable to them. Social and religious heresies, like having supported gay rights or abortion, are very forgivable. You could change opinions within the space of a day, and as long as you're in their economic libertarian "small government" camp, you're their wet-dream come true.

Mitt Rombey - America's ticket to World War III - that is if Cheney/Bush do not execute another 9/11, blame Iran and start World War III before Romney gets the chance.

Regardless of who wins the JOKE of an ELECTION, America will go bankrupt, and many many more AMericans will die for Oil profits.

I am always disturbed when Dem candidates confess their faith, their various religious, their walk with their gods. That sort of stuff belongs on the Republican side of the aisle ... and it's funny how they all proclaim to worship the same god in different churches, yet the thing that separates them most is the thing they proclaim loudest. Maybe they should learn that politics and religion don't really mix.

Phil Gramm is John McCain's choice to run the federal reserve! Gramm has come out of the woodwork, and is beside McCain a lot. Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse. His wife was one of the board members of Enron!!! These republican thugs never go away, never retire. I am expecting Dole any time now.

Who says there's no such thing as poetic justice?
Imagine being a fairly decent governor of a liberal state, then spending millions trashing choice and gays in order to win the conservative Christian vote - only to find the bigots won't vote for you because you're a Mormon.
My heart just bleeds for him.
