Super Tuesday: The Day After

The Obama, Clinton and McCain camps came out swinging after yesterday's Super Tuesday elections. They went after their opponents and tried to manage "down" certain expectations.

Barack Obama went after Clinton's electability in the general election by pointing out that the GOP will have tons of dirt on her.

Asked about Clinton's recent comment that she would not allow herself to be victimized by the type of Swift Boat-style attacks that were leveled against Sen. John Kerry in the 2004 race, Obama said he had been vetted by his opponent in the nominating campaign.

"I have to just respond by saying that the Clinton research operation is about as good as anybody's out there," he said.

"I assure you that having engaged in a contest against them for the last year that they've pulled out all the stops. And you know I think what is absolutely true is whoever the Democratic nominee is the Republicans will go after them. The notion that somehow Senator Clinton is going to be immune from attack or there's not a whole dump truck they can't back up in a match between her and John McCain is just not true."

Hillary Clinton's top aides told a conference call with reporters that she'll be outspent by Barack Obama.

In a teleconference with reporters, Clinton chief strategist Mark Penn said Clinton was having a "record day" raising money over the Internet on Wednesday.

"We will have funds to compete," he said, "but we're likely to be outspent again."

Asked whether Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had decided to dip into their own wealth to finance the campaign, Penn said, "I'm not aware that they have." Campaign communications director Howard Wolfson said he would inquire. The Clinton's financial disclosures, which reveal only broad ranges of assets, place their wealth between $10 million to $50 million.

John McCain told his conservative critics to back off and "calm down."

"I think they've made their case against me pretty eloquently," he said, adding wryly, "if that's the right word." He asserted that the pundits' conservative hero Ronald Reagan -- and his -- reached across the aisle to Democrats just like he wants to do as president.

"I do hope that at some point we would just calm down a little bit and see if there are areas that we can agree on for the good of the party and for the good of the country," he said. The critics argue he's too liberal for the party.

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno"

-John McCain at a 1998 GOP fundraiser

We know the Repukes see Hillary's nomination as their only hope to galvanize their party in November. As McCain's tasteless wisecrack of 10 years ago suggests, he's not above exploiting the right-wing obsessive hatred of the Clintons and won't be pulling any punches. In my own meager research of the Clinton family since this campaign began, I can see that Hillary's daunting challenge will be how to run a positive campaign when she will be constantly trying to defend her own personal record as well as her husband's against an endless parade of innuendo and exposition of deceit, hypocrisy, and treachery. Sure, much of it we've heard before, but not nearly as well coordinated and slickly presented as we can expect this fall. (There's also the old saying, where there's smoke there's fire. What genuine surprises await us?)

Obama is an open book....literally. His brutally frank and honest account of his life in his bestselling memoirs is the perfect counter against the GOP strategy of ruthless personal attack. Any attempt to exploit his own confessions would only work to Obama's advantage (not to mention book sales). The GOP needs Hillary. Desperately. We don't.

The notion that because Hillary has been the focus of Republican attacks since 1992 she is more "vetted" is ridiculous.

There's plenty more where that came from.

Republicans will have new dirt on her-- and Bill Clinton (two for one)-- since 2000 and if all else fails, they'll put a picture of Monica Lewinsky on the TV screen and remind America of why there are some things about the '90s we'd rather put behind us for good.

It looks like my caucus vote this Saturday is going to matter after all. Now if I could only figure out who to vote for...

Email John Edwards and tell him: It is time. Join Obama and make the difference in this election before all the pundits and commenters grind away and make last night seem less than it was.

Keep the momentum going.

Obama/Edwards 2008!

I have had enough of this, I leave with one last thought. Obama says the republicans will not be able to use the war against him because he has been against it all along. What he fails to say is that they will indeed be able to say he is a flip flopper, he claims to be against the war while voting to fund it, that's not exactly being against it all along. And further if he is able to pull of that stance, they will simply use it to paint him as weak on defense. Whereas despite what he says, they won't be able to use Hillary's vote against her either, McCain voted for it too and is still in favor of continuing it. Further in spite of his claims, Obama has taken lobbyist money, John Rowe! Hillary Clinton is highly respected by the military and therefore will be far more difficult to be painted as weak on defense.

I leave these blogs because I am sick of hearing about the movement, when 80% to 90% of the blacks in any given state vote for the black candidate it is clear to this old country boy that it ain't about the issues, cause he sure hasn't spelled out what he stands for other than a bunch of platitudes about change and reaching across the isle. You guys can have him, as for me, no Hillary, no democratic vote. If Mr. Obama is the nominee, the republican party will have gained a new memeber here.

Regarding the article, NBC just reported that Hillary Clinton is loaning her campaign money 5 million dollars. They're running out of money and their donor bank is maxed out.

I think this is what the push for a million debates from her campaign is - she needs as much free airtime as she can get. During the next month there are going to be six or seven primaries, and Obama is expected to sweep them all. So that means that she's not going to be able to generate any positive news until the first week of march: she can't buy it ad time and she won't win the scheduled primaries going into march.

This is a fun "what would you do if you were _____'s campaign manager" game? Like if I were Obama's, I'd agree to debates on PBS only, one this week on domestic issues, and one in two weeks on foreign policy (read: Iraq).

If I were Clinton's campaign manager.... I dunno.

Solid piece about the Kennedy endorsement, entitled "Et Tu Teddy" -- so much for loyalty.

Taking a break from the BS spin here on Hillary and Obama (it was a tie, no one won, get over it!):

What does it say about the GOP that they have to resurrect crotchety old out-of-touch McCain ("The reason we lost in 2006 wasn't because of Iraq, it's because we didn't control spending") as a candidate against the other wingnuts and STILL half the party hates him?

The real scandal about the polls are the General Election ones showing McCain in a virtual tie with either Hillary or Obama...WITH DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE VOTING DEMOCRATIC?

This scam should be more widely exposed, it has a ripe MSM stank, trying to make this a Red/Blue horse race to boost ratings when it's been mathematically proven that it isn't.

Prediction for the 2008 election:

1) The extended battle between Obama and Clinton devolves further into an epic campaign of mutual disdain and embarrassment that is not decided until the final Democratic state primary: June 3rd in Montana .

2) The four month build up to Montana features an unbearable amount of shameless histrionics, and will be colored with endless accusations of youthful drug abuse, gender wars, race-baiting, and overall degradation of the party.

3) June 3rd: Obama wins Montana and its three delegates, presumably taking the nomination by two skinny delegates.

4) After losing the Montana primary, the Clintons (because they're both running) file a federal motion claiming Florida's 27 delegates should be seated after all, even though in 2007 they agreed the state’s delegates would not count due to the state's insolent decision to move their primary up in the cycle. Liberals across the nation cringe (especially me).

5) The Supreme Court rules in favor of the Clintons, i.e. Walmart, stating Florida 's delegates will be awarded to the Clintons , thus reversing Obama's victory and awarding the nomination to Hillary.

6) Meanwhile, John "When I think of Iraq I touch myself " McCain, having wrapped up the GOP nomination in February, will have been focused solely on raising money while his two potential Democratic competitors destroyed each other personally, politically and financially.

7) At the Republican Convention, i.e. White Supremacy meeting, John "we could be in Iraq another 100 years" McCain manages to galvanize the lunatic Christian right behind him because the only person on Earth they hate more than McCain is Hillary.

8) On November 4, 2008, in a close general election McCain, having benefited financially from his very early primary victory, narrowly defeats Hillary. McCain is pushed over the top because he overwhelmingly carries Florida, the state still bitter for being snubbed by the Democrats during the primary.

9) On January 23 2009, McCain passes away just two days after his inaguration (RIP). Vice President Lon Chaney, aka Rudy Giuliani, takes over, destroys world.

10) November 2108 - the war ends in Iraq .

"Loser" From the WP: "Janet Napolitano: The Arizona governor went out on a limb to back Obama and was featured in the Illinois senator's closing ads in the state. In the end, however, Napolitano wasn't able to deliver her state for Obama, a high profile setback for a politician with clear aspirations for a spot on the national ticket."

BTW. Bill Clinton appointed her as U. S. Attorney in Arizona in the 1990s -- so much for loyalty.

The headline mentions that the Clinton camp came out swinging. Please show me a swing by Hillary in this article? I see Barak took one. McCain too. But I see no punches thrown by Hillary.
