Vice President Dick Cheney offered an aggressive, unwavering defense of the Bush administration's legacy at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday, after taking the stage to a chant of "Four more years!"

"The President has made the right decisions for the right reasons and he always reflected the values of the American people," Cheney declared, "Would I support those same decisions today? You're damn right I would."

The crowd was adoring. There was a standing ovation as Cheney entered, and a woman shouting: "We Love You!" Attendees clamored for a good "Cheney shot," with one young conservative pumping his fist after catching an unobstructed wide lens take of the Vice President on his camera.

And they got some red meat. Well more than half of Cheney's address was focused on national security and terrorism. Some of the biggest applause lines, and there were many, came when he discussed the interrogation of detainees in Guantanamo Bay.

"We have gathered a wealth of information that has foiled attacks against the United States. Information that has saved thousands of lives," he said, before adding, "We do not torture. It is against our laws and our values."

No mention was made of waterboarding, a controversial tactic, which the CIA has acknowledged it used on at least three occasions.

In the same vein, Cheney urged Congress to pass a revamped version of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The bill has been held up over opposition to a provision that would grant telecom companies immunity for helping the government's warrantless wiretapping program.

"We are asking Congress to make these revisions permanent and provide liability protections to those companies that are believed to have helped America since 9/11," said Cheney. "Those who act in good faith to defend this country should not be punished by lawsuit or hassle of trial lawyers."

Mostly, however, Cheney continued to beat the war on terror drums. Some choice quotes include:

"The fact is the danger remains very real and we know the terrorists are determined still to hit us."

"The absence of another 9/11 is not an accident it is an achievement."

"One of the lessons of 9/11 was we had to stop treating terrorist attacks merely as law enforcement problems... the world changed with a coordinated attack which ended the lives of 3,000 people."

"The important thing to remember is that six-and-a-half years after 9/11 is that the war on terror is still real. It won't be won on the defensive and we have to proceed on many fronts at the same time."

"The freedoms we enjoy, the rights we exercise, all the privileges we have in this country - none of them can be taken for granted."

The crowd loved it, and him. As Cheney said upon entering the room to a grand applause:

"A welcome like that is almost enough to make me want to run for office again."

You know when these 2 leave office, the world,

should dance in the streets....
George W. Bush.... the George Costanza of Presidents.."my whole life is a lie!!!!"
And although it isn't discussed very much
when the hunting accident happened, the 2
women that were just "hanging out" overheard the Dick say "Whoa! did I hit you in the face??
I meant to shoot you in the back!!!!!

The only thing possibly good about Cheney is he is honest about his vileness,you don't have to wonder if he's really a nice guy, If he loves his country more than himself,if he has any regards for the constitution. No, theres no guesses there, but Im almost more scared of the people that cheered and screamed out "We love you!!" This is the same villians that cheered Coulter etc, and its seems like there are a lot of them.

Three-quarters of America disdain Cheney and Bush and have nothing but contempt for their policies. This small crowd applaudes and worships at the altar of their anti-democratic track record. It shows how out-of-touch the base of the Republican party is with the values of mainstream America. These conservatives seem as if they have landed from another planet. They back policies only a true totalitarian could love.

My answer to that heartless, teflon, fascist, warmongering, POS...

~~~
Things I believe:
I believe a sound ENERGY policy is more vital to our national security than WEAPONS SYSTEMS.
I believe a responsible BUDGET is more vital to our national security than burdening our grandkids with INSURMOUNTABLE DEBT.
I believe that teaching our children SCIENCE is more vital to our national security than teaching them RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE.
I believe that JUSTICE is more vital to our national security than STRENGTH.
I believe that FAIRNESS in our tax code is more vital to our national security than TAX RATES.
I believe that HEALTH CARE is more vital to our national security than the INSURANCE INDUSTRY.
I believe that ACCOUNTABILITY is more vital to our national security than a UNITARY EXECUTIVE.
I believe that the United States CONSTITUTION is more vital to our national security than SIGNING STATEMENTS.
These things I do believe.
Would I support those same decisions today?
"You're damn right I would." he forgot to add "I just wouldn't have any of my immediate family serve in Iraq."
Cheney has proven he doesn't have a conscientous let alone a soul....the compeating headline: "4.2 MILLION IRAQIS DISPLACED" as a direct result of of Cheney & Bush's occupation and Cheney still has the audacity to crow that he would do it all over again.....Mr. Cheney, "you are a self-righteous liar" and a disgrace for all good things the U.S.A represents!! Just go away!!!
Am I supposed to be comforted by the idea that the most evil politician in the world is glad he did all the stuff he did? I'm not comforted, just more positive he's a criminal with no morals at all.
