Cher beat the odds at every turn in her 44-year career, so it's no surprise she's betting on an artistic rebirth in Las Vegas.

The indestructible diva, who retired from touring in 2005, will star in a song-and-dance spectacle starting May 6 at the 4,100-seat Colosseum in Caesars Palace. She'll perform four shows weekly for one month, then return mid-August through early October, leapfrogging stints with Bette Midler. Her pact with promoter AEG Live extends three years.

Cher, 61, promises a "visually unbelievable" hit parade that entails elaborate choreography, complex staging, eye-popping costumes, 14 dancers and four aerialists.

Has she learned how to sing yet? I mean something besides that lame nanny goat vibrato she's been foisting off on the public since the 60's. Oh yeah, distract 'em with visuals.

Me and the husband saw Celine in Las Vegas in 2006--looks like we're planning another trip to the Strip--Cher, Bette, and Elton--three Divas we have GOT to see before we die! :-)

Good god, they're gonna' prop up that old bag of bones and prance her around the stage again? How sad...

I prefer Cher when she's both "Visually & Audibly Invisible!"
Less is definitely more in her case!!!

What's unbelievable is that anyone would want to see that old carcass preening on the stage.

Ugh.

Had the opportunity to see both Midler and Cher when they played here in Portland, Ore. Enjoyed both concerts. But I have to say, Cher seemed to rely on external trappings to dazzle the audience. Much of the time very busy with dancers and acrobats all over the place. Also very loud. In contrast, Bette displayed much more interest in simply performing for her fans. Much less dazzle and glitter. Much more Bette singing quite a variety of songs mixing her hits with other songs she seemed she enjoyed singing and connecting with. I wonder if Cher could pull off an entire concert without changing constantly to distract from her talent. Of the two Cher gets maybe a B or B plus and Bette a definite A.

I too, saw both of them and I'd have to say they both get an A. Two different shows for two totally different performers.

Cher has always been much more a visual performer with varying kinds of eye candy. The Divine Miss M is much more thoughtful and loves the songs that tell a story that support her view of the world as a whole and our place in it.

Anyway, they're both divine.

Welcome back, Cher! Sheesh, Bette Midler up first, followed by Cher. (that's a tough act to follow....Cher better have her game on!) Sing "Live" Cher, none of that Memorax shit like some of these other performers who think a concert is where you go to watch the singer move their lips to a recorded track.
