Clinton Obama Debates Letter

Clinton campaign manager Pattie Doyle has released a copy of a letter sent to Obama's campaign, seeking a debate a week through the rest of the primary season. Read it below:

David Plouff
Campaign Manager
Obama for President
Chicago, IL

Dear David:

Congratulations again on your victories Tuesday night. As Senator Obama declared, it was a great evening for Democrats.

One of the things I've always appreciated about the Democratic Party is its willingness to engage the toughest issues facing our country, even if we don't always agree on how best to solve them.

After seven years of a Bush administration that has left the economy struggling and our health care system in crisis, Americans are certainly facing their fair share of challenges and deserve to hear how the candidates for the nomination will address them.

As such, I was disappointed to see that Senator Obama rejected the idea of having more debates given the fact that he and Senators Clinton have had only a single one-on-one debate. I think we can do better and so does Hillary.

Senator Clinton believes voters should have more than one opportunity to see the candidates discuss the issues and has accepted five debates between now and March 4th from CNN, MSNBC, WJLA, ABC and Fox News.

To that end, we hope Senator Obama will join Senator Clinton for a debate a week beginning this weekend. I'm sure we can find a suitable place to meet on the campaign trail. There's too much at stake and the issues facing the country are too grave to deny voters the opportunity to see the candidates up close.

As Senator Obama has said, "In an era when Americans are rightfully skeptical about the quality of our politics, let us set an example [they] can be proud of and give them the kind of campaign they deserve." We couldn't agree more.

Best wishes,

Patti Solis Doyle
Campaign Manager
Hillary Clinton for President

+++

Obama responds -- he's not interested:

Mr. Obama said most of that fighting would be done on the ground in the next voting states, not in debates. When asked whether he would accept the invitation from Mrs. Clinton to attend four more debates in the coming weeks, he laughed.

"I don't think anybody is clamoring for more debates," he said. "We've had 18 debates so far. I think we've had 10 more than we've had in the last Democratic contest."

He said he would agree to at least one debate, but noted, "It's very important for me to spend time with voters."

The Republicans are dead scared of running against Barack Obama and his impressive campaign machine. Here is why

Obama was right on the war.

Obama attracts many new voters.

Obama attracts young voters.

Obama attracts cross over Republicans.

Obama gets a bigger bite of the independent voters than John McCain.

Poll after poll shows Barack Obama ahead of John McCain.

Here is the decision for the Super Delegates:

Does the Democratic party want to win the Presidential Election.

Or does the Democratic party want Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton come hell or high water.

Time to choose Democrats.

Obama captured 48% of the vote in the theoretical match-up against McCain's 41%, the TIME poll reported, while Clinton and McCain would deadlock at 46% of the vote each. Put another way, McCain looks at the moment to have a narrowly better chance of beating the New York Senator than he does the relative newcomer from Illinois.

Obama will beat John McCain over the head with the war issue, Hillary cannot make the same case. Rather Hillary and John McCain will compete against each other for who is the better Warmonger.

Someone should remind Hillary Clinton of the fate of her fellow New Yorker, Rudy Giuliani. He didn't not adequately compete in the previously 5 primires but instead went off to Florida waiting for a win, Giuliani was at the time the front runner nationally and also ahead in Florida.

By the time the election got around to Florida, Rudy was no longer the front runner and lost badly in Florida. Hillary Clinton is attempting to pursue the same strategy in laying low and waiting for the Texas primary. Not surprising that Hillary fails to learn from history.

Not sure about the rest of you but , I'm sick of these damn debates and they only give the Rethugs more opportunity to look-in and explore weaknesses they'll exploit later.

Giving 'F'oreign 'O'wned e'X'crement the opportunity to appear 'legitimate' is un-acceptable ------ boycott Faux.

Um, what kind of stupid tactics are the Clinton campaign using by spelling David Plouffe's name wrong on the memo they sent to him. I mean, seriously. It's like George Bush I purposely mispronouncing Saddam Hussein's name in Gulf War I...

Hillary Clinton accepted an opportunity to debate on Fox News. The same Fox News that hired Karl Rove as a political analyst a few weeks ago. The same Fox News that's owned by Rupert Murdock. Yeah, that’s right. Rupert “Neoconservative” Murdock, aka the man who used his media outlets to convince the American public that Bush and Company were right for declaring war on Iraq. Why would Hillary Clinton accept a debate on a news station that consistently bashes her, her husband and the Democratic Party? Why would she do this? When Obama's supporters refer to character and judgment, this is what we're talking about. Hillary's decision to accept a DEMOCRATIC debate on Fox News is evidence of her poor judgment. Clinton supporters…PLEASE WAKE UP!!!

Rupert Murdoch contributed the max to Hillary Clinton's campaign, so she feel confident that Fox is in her corner. With an assist from Fox, she hopes to knee cap Obama.

Have to agree -- bad decision having 'anything' to do with Faux. Don't give those slimeball bastards the opportunity to appear 'legitimate'. I for one , won't watch -- can't stomach Faux (and all their un-American lies).

Well, if you have such issue with Fox, you better talk to Obama, who keeps doing interviews on their channel.

But of course Hillary is clamoring for more debats; it means free advertising! But I think that her being broke is a ruse to throw the Obama team off track. I recall that similar alarms from the Clinton camp occurred during the New Hampshire primary. Remember?

Barack, JUST SAY NO to her demands for more debates and for an appearance on Fox. You don't need to get entangled in the venemous
spider's net! Your time will have been better spent with the voters. She needs you; you don't need her.

To those who are inclined to vote for Hillary, thinking that her 35 years of touted gifts to the unwashed masses were "accinokusgnebts", I urge you to download two articles about them during her stint in Arkansas while Bill was govenor:

1) "Hillary, the Pol" by Connie Bruck (The New Yorker, 1994) - - Semper-fido.blogspot.com.

2) "St. Hillary" by Michael Kelly (New York Times Magazine, 1993).

For Hillary perception is everything, but she is not what she appears to be:

Directing affairs on corporate boards - - interests conflicting - - she amassed hoards!

She was a corporate billboard writ large for Wal-Mart, Yogurt, and Lafarge - - those icons of non-union shops, toxic waste, and corporate greed; of their blatant abuses she paid little heed. They flourished unfettered as she continued to sit; for shareholders' interests, she cared hardly a whit.

No tangible "good" is there to be seen for the years she served as corporate queen.

More adept was she at building a resume and amassing wealth than crafting policy for the nation's health!

We don't need more of the same.

Our need is BARACK - - A RISING,NOT A SETTING SUN!

spider's net!

"jsaak":
Another in a long line of Obama supporter posts full of vile, hateful, negative and dirty accusations and name-calling. "Venomous spider web?" Where did THAT come from? You Obamites sure talk a good story about how you're all about "change" and "rising above the old dirty politics," but when the going gets tough, you can sling mud with the best of 'em. Of course Saint Obama is without sin. And then you advise Barack to avoid debating Hillary. You all keep touting what a visionary, inspirational, brilliant & wise speaker he is--what do you (and he) have to hide?

Only candidate who are behind call for more debates. Case in point, could anyone remember any sitting president that agreed to more than 2 to 3 debates, no they won't. There have been enough debates Hillary, what else can you say and now you want Obama to go on Fox, one of your major contributers. First CNN spent there time Swift Boating Obama in the first debate, now you want Fox with their history to do the same, not happening Hillary.

Ike,
I agree 100%. This is a real cry from the Clinton campaign. Oh how the wind has changed! I am glad that Barack is giving the people in the next primary states a chance to see him and listen to him. I saw him last Saturday night here in St. Louis with a crowd of more than 20,000. I truly believe that his appearance here is what put him over the top in St Louis city and county. Keep the HOPE alive.

OK, this has been fun, but I have to go to bed now. Will you guys work this out, and let me know how it turns out tomorrow?

Remember, play nice, get along, and no more name calling. One of these two brilliant people will be our next president (good god, if we can't beat McCain, whose own party doesn't even like him, then we ARE pathetic!)

I just saw a clip of Bill O'retarded calling into Fox & Friends talking about the possible debates. He makes me sick. Now I don't want them to do it, just to spite him. haha But I do want more one on one debates!

Ok, nighty night, ya'll. Can't we all just get along? :O)

Time for the sports analogy:

Obama is the football team that has taken a lead late in the game. They feel they have an excellent running game and can probably run out the clock and preserve the victory.

Hillary's coaching staff is begging Team Obama to throw long. Throw long on every down! Challenge our secondary, don't run the ball! Our best chance now is picking one off and running it back, please throw on every down!!!

Obama's staff feels it might be okay to throw once or twice just to keep Team Hillary honest, but throwing every down sounds like it would just play into her hands and give her a chance to get back into the game.

Sometimes playing the odds like this doesn't work, and if Obama loses everyone will say "Oh, should have thrown more!" But a good strategist sticks with what has been working, and doesn't get tricked into playing to the opponent's strength instead of their own.

Clinton is desperate and is in great need of debate, but she needs to do her own town hall meetings.

Obama's priority is to travel to the primary states to meet the voters, which is the most important part of campaigning.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Clinton does not want to meet the voters in the primary states. Is it because she is afraid she can't get the votes???
