Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning showed off his comedic side on Letterman Wednesday night. He joked about why Coach Bill Bellichik left the field early (to beat traffic) and cracked Dave up:

Eli is the best quarterback in his family. Mental toughness and "the killer instinct" that's what I see when I watch Eli.

How many fouls were called during that game? Three? And one of those was because Belicheck insisted.

If the refs had called even half the holding fouls that the Giants' defense was guilty of, the defense never would have gotten to Brady, and the score would have been 42-7 Patriots. But that's what happens when the rules of the game are shitcanned in favor of a media event.

The Super Bowl isn't a game, just a vehicle to sell expensive ads.

Wow. What an absolutely terrific game it was! Even as a die hard Steelers fan (he left here under a cloud) I was cheering for Plaxico Burress on every deep post and pick crossing route he was running two minutes into the 1st Qtr.

Yes. For a brief moment I flirted with the seduction of 19-0 Buddhist Maya "Perfection" but then transcended it spiritually to escape that illusionary fate!

Everyone can learn something from the fate of the Pats..."nobody is perfect" and "cheaters never win". LOL. He he he. And when any "game" starts in your life loosen up and have some fun. If you play football or engage in anything else majorly fierce with a broomstick up you ass in life you are going to lose.

David Tyree and his entire family or guests will NEVER have to pay for a meal in New York City again for the rest of his entire life. But the famously demanding and tough Giants fans, of course, would turn on Eli in a heartbeat if he has two bad games in a row next year! I sincerely hope he doesn't and just keeps rolling! I really do. I will always pull for this guy!

If I was writing for SNL I would have Eli come out "dressed to the nines" (a diamond studded white cape over a black tuxedo with top hat would be nice) as the guest host with Gisele Bündchen on one arm and Jessica Simpson on the other! With some quick acting lessons he could keep his "aw shucks" Gary Cooper thing going but then throw in some skits of him somehow doing Robert DeNiro in "Cape Fear". Oh what fun it would be!

The game was incredibly exciting to watch from beginning to end. What a thrill for the super-talented, super-nice Manning family.

Since I left NY, I've rooted for other teams mainly the Packers and the Saints but I've always retained my Giants roots. This Super Bowl was so unexpected and won in such old-style NY Football Giants style that it was a joy to watch.

Eli now has 11 come-from-behind 4th quarter victories. Still it is the defense that put them in a position to win a championship, and Eli closed the deal. That David Tyree has to be the top catch ever in a SuperBowl. Against the helmet while being tackled. Wow!

Best football game I've ever seen. Period. The Mannings have been blessed, and I can't even imagine what their father feels like. I'm a total Giants fan, now, and that's really saying someting. I've been rooting for the Dodgers since I was five years old. (I know they're the "football Giants" but, if you're a Dodger fan, just the word "giant" is enough to get you riled.)

The best part about Eli is watching him when it gets tough. He looks like a little kid on his family's front lawn.

He's makes football look like a sport instead of a business.

As a New Orleans Saints fan who watched Archie play some good football with a less-than-stellar cast -- a franchise player without a franchise, as some wag put it a long time ago -- I can say that the success of his sons on the football field is karmic justice for years of exile in football hell for Archie..

"Best football game I've ever seen. Period." Megadittoes. Actually not the prettiest I've ever seen in terms of the quality of play, but certainly the most thrilling I've ever seen.

Re the winning touchdown: The mismatch in height didn't make any difference on that play. Plaxico Burress would have caught that ball if he was four feet tall. He was wide open and it was perfectly thrown.

I howl every time there's an ad with Payton...his delivery and timing are dead(-pan) on!..What a hoot!

Seems their folks did pretty well by them...maybe Mom and Dad should right a book on child-rearing (foot-ball not required)...they certainly have reason to be proud.

I do, too. I've heard it said in/around UT (I am in Knoxville) that Peyton was a real cut up as an undergrad, so I guess he had time to hone that skill too. His SNL bits were great, too.

Peyton has also said that Eli is funny, and Giants' players have said that Eli is a practical joker (he reprogrammed some guys' cell phones to Spanish and they were totally lost about what to do).

My disappointment in not being able to observe an all too rare milestone in sports history is quite happily balanced out by the distinct pleasure of seeing the much maligned, Eli Manning, become the Giants’ very deserving Super Bowl Star. It is great joy to see, especially since as little as a month ago a distended huddle of sports pundits on Fox, CBS, ESPN, et al, were all heartily labeling Eli as a likable, but essentially slack mouthed, journeyman quarterback who, though fairly talented would never be “great”, or even crueler still, “not great like his brother Peyton.”

I sincerely hope that now, with the Super Bowl Trophy clutched in Manning’s all too deserving hand, that the football talking heads guilty of such flap-mouthed dismissals will have the personal courtesy and guts to apologize on air for their miserable inaccuracies as to Eli’s abilities and personal caricature.
