In the latest example that the U.S. dollar just ain't what it used to be, some shops in New York City have begun accepting euros and other foreign currency as payment for merchandise.

"We had decided that money is money and we'll take it and just do the exchange whenever we can with our bank," Robert Chu, owner of East Village Wines, told Reuters television.

Hey, I'd be happy to get paid in Euros but it's a little late now. As our long national nightmare comes to an end, the dollar will probably end its downward trend and regain some lost value. Wait a couple years before taking that international vacation.

"We had decided that money is money and we'll take it"

really. Guess they couldn't screw the Canadians any longer. CDN on par or better but lots of places would give you 60 cents on $1CDN

They, Canadians still pay around 30% more for American mags. The publishers just removed the American price and left the old Canadian price on, that'll fix'm. Americans hate Canadians because of the Universal Healthcare they have there. Why don't Americans just get their own UH and become as happy as the Canadians. No it's better to critisize the Canadian system. Screw those darn Canucks, now their funny money are better too. Ah, they stayed out of the war in Iraq. Well we Americans will run our ecconemy into the ground that will get those Canadian so and sos. Good plan!

Once upon a time, you could go all over the world and get anything done with some crisp dollar bills (except for a certain series $100 which had huge counterfeiting problems). They were more important than the deep blue of your passport. I've been many places where you actually got a discount if you paid in dollars rather than the local currency.

Welcome to the third world, America. Next up will be currency exchanges popping up in strip malls so you can turn your paycheck into Euros as a safeguard against the dollar slipping.

This has to be the first big non-surprise for the year. Let"s see Bush/Cheney/Republicans give us $9+trillion national debt, wars being fought off the books, huge deficits, and the fed lowering interest rates solving what problem? Soon your cash won"t be nothing but trash.
