Lieberman Superdelegate

Think Progress:

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), who endorsed Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for president, will be disqualified as a superdelegate at the Democratic convention "under what is informally known as the Zell Miller rule." In 2004, Miller -- then a Democratic senator from Georgia -- attacked Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) in a speech at the Republican National Convention. The DNC "responded with a rule disqualifying any Democrat who crosses the aisle from being a super delegate."

Not good enough for me. The Senate Dems need to show Joe the door which means stripping LIEberman of both his committee chairmanships and seniority and not allow him to caucus with the Dems anymore. Why would they allow this traitor in their caucus? It's insane! To allow this lying scumbag to caucus with you tells me the Dems will lie down with any dog if it benefits them politically.

Harry Reid and Schumer created this monster and they had better deal with it soon. And it's not just McCain Joe is campaigning for either. He also is helping Susan Collins with her Senate campaign to get reelected this year - a seat the Dems could take. But if either McCain or Collins knew what was good for them, they wouldn't be seen in public with Lieberman,. which should tell us how desperate they are to get elected.

What about Lieberman and Obama? What about Obama crossing party lines to vote for Lieberman? What about Obama not voting for the Kyle-Lieberman bill? What about not knowing where the hell Obama stands with Lieberman? Obama is a republican you people are too stupid to understand.

My god, the whole fricking planet knows that Stevie Wonder is fricking blind, totally, this Obama family fricking dropped Stevie Wonder. If Bill or Hillary dropped Stevie Wonder then the whole plane would know. Give me a brake, the Obama family is star struck, the proof is that the DROPPED STEVIE WONDER. They cannot lead a nation. Period.

Why does he have any kind of Democratic status now that he is no longer in the party?

Because the Senate Dems would rather put up with getting egg on their faces being thrown at them by LIEberman than kicking his sorry ass out of their caucus, which "may" cost them their majority in the Senate.

LIEberman can play both sides against each other to get what he wants but he also needs to pay the GOP back with his votes and inaction on the Homeland Sec. Comm. because the GOP got him reelected.

Obama and Liebermann are hand in hand. I dispise Libermann but Obama crossed party lines to endorse Libermann over Ned Lemont. Of course Obama won in Conn., Liebermann is a senator and Obama crossed party lines to endorse Liebermann. HELLO AMERICA YOU CANNOT TRUST OBAMA.

Lieberman IS NOT EVEN A DEMOCRAT! He endorsed McCain! Ban him from the convention.

Obama supported Lieberman over Ned Lemont. Obama crosses party lines, Obama won in Conn., where Lieberman and Obama worked the neighborhoods. Obama is a republican and related to Cheney. What more do you need to know?

Try and convince the Obama fanatics that Obama was happy to have Lieberman as his mentor, they go ballistic trying to deny it.

Superdelegates??? Does this mean some people get TWO votes while the rest of us only get ONE vote?? This is undemocratic bullshit to take the election out of the hands of we the people.

The whole election process is flawed, not just the primaries.

Remember 2000? The electoral college was set up at a time when American's were undereducated and ill-informed....

...wait a minute.

"Superdelegates??? Does this mean some people get TWO votes while the rest of us only get ONE vote??"

According to what I saw on Dan Abrams show tonight, each Super Delegate gets the equivalent of about 10,000 votes...

Dual Citizenship is not allowed in the US.
I know - I had to choose! Yes, Chertoff has two however, but then he is loyal to Israel.

What was your original country of citizenship. It's not encouraged but one can hold dual citizenship in the US dependeding upon what the other country is.

For example I'm getting US citizenship in a little while and I'm trying to decide if I want to keep my British citizenship since I am perfectly capable of doing so.

"The DNC "responded with a rule disqualifying any Democrat who crosses the aisle from being a super delegate."

Lieberman is following McCain around like a dog in heat, just like McCain has been up Bush's backside all these years. How does this qualify Lieberman to be considered a Democrat? He should be loudly and formally expelled completely out of the Democratic party for his actions.

Absolutely! The Dems should kick LIEberman out of their caucus, strip him of his committees and seniority in the party and let him be on his own. Maybe the GOP will take the mongrel. But they probably won't because it could cost them their majority in the Senate.

The truth is everyone should have seen this coming but Dem leadership had blinders on. Recall the standing ovation they gave him when he was welcomed back into the Senate after winning in 2006.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell. Sounds good to me. Please, please work hard to get Lieberman out of his chairmanship and thrown out of the Democratic caucus.

Too bad the rules of the Senate cannot be changed until 2009. You see, when the organizational rules for the session were made, it was written that the Democrats would maintain majority status in committees if the case of tie developed (Johnson being too sick to serve, Lieberman, etc). So your dream will have to wait another decade or two.

That is a relief. I thought the Democrats had to treat Lieberman with kid gloves because he could cause trouble. I never liked him back in 2000, either.

Do you have a link to information about these rules? I'm surprised having read in the media about the concerns of the Democrats throughout this session.

Do you people realize that if you strip him of his committee seats and he stops voting on the democratic side, then the democrats lose the majority in the senate.. and that means that VP Cheney gets the deciding vote... are you all so blinded by hatred that you don't understand this...

Principles are cold comfort. You have to decide which principles are symbolic and which are worth fighting for. Separation of powers and the Bill of Rights are worth fighting for. If you want to have a fighting chance preserving the Constitution, you have to give Lieberman a seat on a committee.

He frequently sides with the reps anyway. He's not a Dem anymore anyway and has no business being a Superdelegate at the Democratic convention.

In November the Blue Wave will make this a moot point and Leiberman will be kicked to the curb.
The republicans will lose a bunch of seats and Leiberman will be all alone.
Justice by voter ballet!
And Leiberman isn't voting with Democrats now!
He has been voting republican.

What you call "hatred" some people call "principle".

If he wants to caucus as a Democrat, then he shouldn't be stripped of his committee seats.

However, he's a shadow of his former self. He votes Republican on foreign policy issues.

He has no business being a "super delegate" at the Convention. He's attending the Republican Convention anyway.

I'll be so glad when Lieberman is marginalized after the November election and he can then join the GOP officially.

I don't expect anything from Lieberman.

My contempt is reserved for those Democrats who wouldn't campaign for Ned Lamont. I bet they wish they had now.

OH NO... that would put an end to the freight train of groundbreaking legislation that the Democrats have been pushing through in the Senate.

Give me a break.. those bitches and bastards (trying to be gender neutral here) have done nothing so Cheney's tie breaking vote is meaningless.
