Mitt Romney To Suspend Presidential Race

Mitt Romney suspended his faltering presidential campaign on Thursday, effectively sealing the Republican presidential nomination for John McCain. "I must now stand aside, for our party and our country," Romney told conservatives.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney told the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Watch it:

Romney's decision leaves McCain as the top man standing in the GOP race, with Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul far behind in the delegate hunt. It was a remarkable turnaround for McCain, who some seven months ago was barely viable, out of cash and losing staff. The four-term Arizona senator, denied his party's nomination in 2000, was poised to succeed George W. Bush as the GOP standard-bearer.

Romney launched his campaign almost a year ago in his native Michigan. The former Massachusetts governor and venture capitalist invested more than $40 million of his own money into the race, counted on early wins in Iowa and New Hampshire that never materialized and won just seven states on Super Tuesday, mostly small caucus states.

The Repugs are all shitty candidates anyway, but there were some that were/are just heinous! Romney was the worst of them, because he was an archdeceiver, do-anything-to-kiss-ass type.

And his ass has been exposed for all the nation to see! Hurray!

I am just waiting for the debate when Hillary gets to stand to to toe with McCain-only to have him sputter and stammer as she lays out the mountain of deceit McCain has gone along with, in every phase of Bush's White House run. If Hillary gets the nomination, they (Republicans) all know they are finished, and the information they have been keeping out of the mainstream media will be FORCED to the forefront in debates, and it will ENRAGE the American people. (if she gets in....it's getting tougher by the minute..)

Well, wonder how long it will take them to raise the terror level? Think it'll be over the summer or sometime in October?

There are a lot of Martini's and piles of cash to offset whatever slight cringe of guilt they might sometimes feel, that would allow them good sense.

It's important to remember what we are fighting for in November. "Republicans objected to add-ons such as a $14.5 billion unemployment extension for those whose benefits have run out, $1 billion in heating aid for the poor and a package of tax breaks for renewable energy producers." We need to crush the GOP in November. Let's combine the ticket and get started with Hillary/Obama crushing these assholes.

$1 billion in heating oil aid only keeps the price up. It's bad economics and a poor use of taxpayer money.

Extending unemployment only gives unemployed people an excuse not to look for a job.

When people get their heat shut off that'll probably bring the price down...

If they're not looking for a job, they're not counted as unemployed...

Since Bush's latest budget calls for more than 400 billion in additional deficit spending, on top of the 3.5 trillion he and the Repubs ran up in the last seven years, what's a lousy billion here or there?

Incidentally there are now stores in Manhattan that no longer accept dollars. They have "Euro Only" signs.

It's "poetic justice" that some big-name U.S. banks are getting hurt by the complicated packages of debt securities they helped create and sell.

"The people who brewed this toxic Kool-Aid found themselves drinking a lot of it in the end," Warren Buffett said.

Ha ha ha ..............Our government should not bale out these capitalist creeps; but bale out money should go directly to folks struggling with reset mortgages.

The GOP is finally unified behind this crazy old warmonger.
The Dems must prove it can avoid another Chicago, 1968.
That failure to come together gave America to Tricky Dick.

I love when all the Repubs, including McCain suck up to the Ghost of Ronnie Raygun.

Isn't he the guy who turned tail after the fundies blew up 241 Marines in Lebanon? Didn't he trade arms for hostages with the Ayatollahs in Iran? Didn't he arm the Taliban and Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan? Didn't he sell advanced technology including possibly poison gas to Saddam Hussein?

I wonder what the Repubs see in him?

Profits. Well, for defense contractors anyway. Colbert cracked me up last night with his graphic about how the "House that Reagan Built" was "built from the top-down on the backs of the homeless, with the hope that it would finish building itself." That's some good stuff.

Gee, Rudy's gone, Romney's gone. The two guys who claimed to be "fiscal conservatives", economic wizards with CEO expertise....spent multi-millions of dollars and came up empty. How ironic. How Republican. Wonder how much each of their delegates cost them....I think Rudy only got one, if I'm not mistaken.

RNC is spinning already....claiming this will enable them to begin formulating their general campaign while the Dems are still battling it out. Which is ridiculous, because all the RNC can do is put together a smear campaign, and they need a Dem candidate in place to do it. And, I can just feel the excitement in the air as McCain tours the counry giving speeches....in truth, the Hilary/Obama duel will be what the MSM and Cable will be following...especially once Matthews has a couple of orgasms telling McCain just how great he is....

A WAKEUP CALL TO THE DEMOCRATS-the Repubs are on a full assault on America's conscience-Iraq and Immigration. If the Democrats tihnk that "get out of Iraq in 15 months" will win the election, they're dead wrong. America lives in fear of Al Quaeda, and losing its oil supply. The "movement" must show it will unite America and the world to engage its common issues, especially terrorism, energy, and illegal immigration. Strength means that Pakistan must be furthur committed to help Afganistan and route out Al Quaeda. We still have to get through the Primaries, but oversimplifying Iraq to "get out" will fail. The issue isn't who has the military experience, but rather the leadership to engage the stakeholders, yes the United Nations, Middle East , Iran, Pakistan, Isreal et al. When Nixon took the USA out of Vietnam,
he went to China. They used to say "only Nixon could go to China" because he was a devowed anti-communist. Well maybe, only Obama can go to Pakistan, the Middle east, and yes, the United Natins because he is a devowed unifier of disparate factions. The "movement" is about recognising that our neighborhoods, even global neighborhoods, must work together to achieve goals... Young, old, rich, poor, Latino, Asian, African-American,European-Ameican, Mexico, Israel, Canada, Pakistan, Iraq, Saudi_Arabia, Iran, Russia, China, and war torn countries in Africa. There are common agendas....terrorism, energy, water, and yes immigration and security..and the other failed war...drugs. The Democrats need to be seen as not running way from war but towards common interests and solutions. Failure to project a positive drive for peace and security will create a vacuum to be filled with fear. And fear will give America McCain. Is their danger? Military strength and political leadership are both needed to drive to world cooperation and change. We seemed to be mired in a stew of oil and religious politics that needs strength, collaboration, and unprecendented national and world leadership. We do have to fear "fear itself" and embrace a new attitude and resolve...."Yes we can".

Although my hatred for Hillary gives me night sweats, Obama makes me very nervous. How will he handle the Chinese, Russians, Iranians? The international scene is not one for a softy who wants to "just get along". He is going to sell our ports/secrets/lower nuke stockpiles/decrease size of our military. Why do you think the international rulers are licking their chops at the thought of Obama?
