Mitt Romney To Suspend Presidential Race

Mitt Romney suspended his faltering presidential campaign on Thursday, effectively sealing the Republican presidential nomination for John McCain. "I must now stand aside, for our party and our country," Romney told conservatives.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney told the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Watch it:

Romney's decision leaves McCain as the top man standing in the GOP race, with Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul far behind in the delegate hunt. It was a remarkable turnaround for McCain, who some seven months ago was barely viable, out of cash and losing staff. The four-term Arizona senator, denied his party's nomination in 2000, was poised to succeed George W. Bush as the GOP standard-bearer.

Romney launched his campaign almost a year ago in his native Michigan. The former Massachusetts governor and venture capitalist invested more than $40 million of his own money into the race, counted on early wins in Iowa and New Hampshire that never materialized and won just seven states on Super Tuesday, mostly small caucus states.

Terry Macauliffe was on MSNBC touting Clinton as the national security candidate touting her armed service committee work, support from generals and the pentagon and her tough stance on terrorrism. That she had a higher rating from the military than McCain.

You really think McCain will disagree with that? Remember, he likes Mrs. Clinton and believes she will make a good President.

I question the strategy.

Claiming Clinton is a bigger hawk than McCain somehow seems contrary to the essence of the anti-war movement.

Do you have a link to this military rating?

Or was macauliffe, the guy who kept his job after the 1996 DNC fundraising scandals, making stuff up?

He was yakking on TV. Hard to say what the facts are ... but I remember listening to these arguments on NPR a few weeks back suggesting the same thing.

In fact, I just heard that Clinton was asked to be on some Pentagon subcommittee. Here's an interesting link that might explain this, it's disturbing for those of us who want this country to move away from purely militaristic solutions to our vast problems.

Disagreement amongst delegates of the same party has been consistently common in the past several elections. Yet people think Romney's drop out was a waste of money, or a hard decision, because he "Hates to Loose." On the other hand, isn't Romneys dropping out of the race really a sign that he is supporting his party? His ability to place his own desires below that of the countries, puts him a few ranks higher in my book. The truth is, the current democratic candidates should take a lesson from former Mass. Governor, Mitt Romney. That by competing for the nomination within their own party is a flawed system of election. Didn't Abe Lincoln once say, "a house divided against itself cannot stand"? If the democratic house is so intent on getting into the White house, how can they be so divided at the same time and still expect to stand tall and strong before the American democrats? Isn't division, separation, and fissure really a sign of inherent weakness?

Disagreement amongst delegates of the same party has been common in America since the Constitutional Convention. Glad you could finally start paying attention.

Oh, and the Democratic party isn't divided, we're holding an election. The fact that we have two extremely strong candidates is by no means a sign of weakness. The real sign of weakness is the pathetic cast of characters who tried to wheeze their way through the Republican race. If you want to see some real fracturing, listen to a bit of wingnut talk radio today or check out the goings on at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

You can try to spin any way you want, but you can't change the facts, little troll.

Romney gave such such a twisted view of the world in his quit speach it is astounding.
His thoughts are borderline deomonic.
I comfort myself knowing that he really has no clue about anything he is saying.
He is an image, an ugly image.
Truly, a suit without a man.
Good riddance and shame on him.

The nation may well be ready for an African-american president, or a female president. It is just not ready to elect an android.

It was utterly ridiculous to hear the right-wing main-stream-media ass kissers towing the establishment line, trying to force-feed the kool-aid onto the American electorate that Romney was a true Conservative. The *only* reason why the establishment media right-wing clique backed Romney, is because, Romney went to Harvard, and is extremely wealthy; that's it! Romney was no more a true Conservative than Howdy Doody; the only difference is, Howdy Doody is more authentic than Romney ever was on the campaign trial. ;)

Final thoughts on Willard dropping out and handing top spot to MCCain:

McCain has his Jones going for a go at Hillary and all those "frigging hippies" from the sixties.

BUT...he is nervous about taking on Obama because how is the McCain campaign gonna figure out a way to use the "N" word and every other racial innuendo like the Republicans used against Harold Ford in Tennessee.

Look for the 527 PACS to work overtime for McCain while McCain disavows the messenger while at the same time endorsing the message. The beat goes on.

What could be better for McCain, than to have Hanoi Jane Fonda come out on stage at the Democrat Convention to praise Hillary Clinton.

Priceless. What a comparison. Genuine war hero and former POW faces candidate endorsed by a treasonous woman who called our POWs liars when they returned.

He actually said: "If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."

So, he EQUATES Clinton or Obama winning with terrorism. Niiiice. More dissent = treason from these pieces of excrement.

If Huckabuckle takes the VP McBomb can get the Rapture Freaks on board and start running against the Dems now while H and O savage each other. It would be a smart move. Scary to think of that Holy Rollin Redneck in the White House in ANY position. I'd rather have Cheney stay on.
