Obama: Swiftboating Can't Stop Me

CBS   |   February 7, 2008 05:02 PM

Sen. Barack Obama could withstand any last-minute "swift-boat" attacks from Republicans on his race or past drug use because winning the grueling contest for the Democratic nomination will make him the "toughest, baddest candidate on the block," he tells 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft....

...Asked by Kroft if he will be able to endure attacks from "swift-boating" Republicans who may use his race or his youthful drug use against him, Obama replies, "Whoever wins this Democratic primary...they're the toughest, baddest candidate on the block. And if I beat Senator Clinton, then I will be more than capable of beating the Republicans. And if I don't, then she'll be the nominee and [race or past drug use] will be a moot point."

Obama, let me show you one simple way how your going to get swiftboated:

One week before the November election Beck, Colter, Hannity are going to come out and say: Do you want some Black hair, Black eyed, dark skin boy telling you how to live your life? Have you ever been to the city, county or federal government office and a big black women sat on the other side of the glass and you need to get something done. Then she started acting like your putting her out and she might have to do some work. Or better yet, you know that black guy in the office that got his job because the color of his skin and he has no idea what the hell he is doing.

Obama, you are ready for the GOP. They don't care what they say. Don't compare Hillary to the GOP.

Then when it's all over and you lost. You will have set the chance of any other colored persons to be president back 50 years.

This war hasn't even started yet.

If the GOP were to attempt such blatant race baiting, they'd be handing the election to Obama on a silver platter. Bring it on.

That wouldn't be persuasive to me, nor would it (i THINK) be persuasive to anyone who wasn't going to vote GOP anyway.

Then again, I don't use the phrase "colored person".

Obaama was President of Harvard Law Review, and his professor, Lawrence TRibe(?) said Barack was the smartest student he'd EVER taught. At Harvard.
Hardly affirmative action. I don't think anyone that was going to vote for him would fall for that. It will be much more subtle than that. Racism is unfashionable, even in the South.
Barack Obama is something special. A once in a generation politician and possible Statesman.
Even my jaded brother, who hates everthing and ALL politicians likes him.

Ted Kennedy endorses Obama = Obama loses Massachusetts

Maria Shriver-Schwarzenegger endorses Obama = Obama loses California

Caroline Kennedy-Schlossberg endorses Obama in The New York Times = Obama loses New York

'Obama-Girl' endorses Obama, but didn't vote in her own state primary(Priceless!) = Obama loses New Jersey

At this rate, the Republicans won't need to swiftboat Obama. The more empty-suit endorsements Obama gets, the *more* Republicans L-O-V-E, Mr. Hope! LOL

The endorsements helped close a huge gap. Won some delegates. If he keeps up this momentum, you'll have to find some other message to post.

By the way, do you even know what "empty suit" means?

CNN: Exit Polls: Super Tuesday - Importance of Kennedy Family Endorsements

1. Massachusetts:

Very Important - 17%

Not At All Important - 31%

2. California:

Very Important - 19%

Not At All Important - 30%

3. New York:

Very Important - 17%

Not At All Important - 32%

4. New Jersey:

Very Important - 24%

Not At All Important - 29%

***In all these states, more people thought the Kennedy family endorsements were *not* at all important, than those that thought they were very important.***

Like I already stated, ... the Republicans love all of Obama's "empty-suit" endorsers. ;)

Obama captured 48% of the vote in the theoretical match-up against McCain's 41%, the TIME poll reported, while Clinton and McCain would deadlock at 46% of the vote each. Put another way, McCain looks at the moment to have a narrowly better chance of beating the New York Senator than he does the relative newcomer from Illinois.

Obama will beat John McCain over the head with the war issue, Hillary cannot make the same case. Rather Hillary and John McCain will compete against each other for who is the better Warmonger.

I believe the 'complete' results of the Time poll that you cited are:

McCain vs.Obama:

Obama - 48

McCain - 41

Undecided- 6

McCain vs. Hillary:

McCain - 46

Clinton - 46

Undecided - 8

*Those damn undecideds; they always seem to throw a monkey-wrench into an otherwise clear argument, huh?

Yes, but that cuts both ways. Clinton needs to win a majority of the undecided vote. Obama just needs to keep it 100% of them from breaking for McCain.

But polls aren't everything. It's just that your argument was weird.

Please Mr. Obama, what does CHANGE mean? If it means like the 90's when America added 22 million new jobs in 8 years, or a balanced budget, or better yet - peace. Is that what you mean by change?

"Excuse me, but this sounds more like a cult than a political campaign. The language used here is the language of evangelical Christianity – the Obama volunteers speak of "coming to Obama" in the same way born-again Christians talk about "coming to Jesus."

But he's not Jesus! He's not going to magically enable us to transcend the bitter partisanship that is tearing this country apart. And even if he is elected, in no way will that show that somehow we have "gotten beyond" race.

The Obama campaign's instruction to their volunteers to steer clear of policy questions. How can we truly bring about real political change if the movement the Obama people are building is devoid of ideological content, content merely to mouth gauzy generalities about "coming together" and "yes we can"? Such a movement becomes a cult or personality rather than engine for social justice and political transformation. And personality cults can be a huge turnoff to those who are not already drinking the Kool-Aid." Kathleen Geier

Someone should remind Hillary Clinton of the fate of her fellow New Yorker, Rudy Giuliani. He didn't not adequately compete in the previously 5 primires but instead went off to Florida waiting for a win, Giuliani was at the time the front runner nationally and also ahead in Florida.

By the time the election got around to Florida, Rudy was no longer the front runner and lost badly in Florida. Hillary Clinton is attempting to pursue the same strategy in laying low and waiting for the Texas primary. Not surprising that Hillary fails to learn from history.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:01 AM on 02/08/2008

Don't expect Hillary to lay low this week. It is fair to say the Obama will perform well with black votes and upscale Democrats. He has performed well in caucuses - but who knows, Hillary may begin to get traction as Obama's inexperience begins to become more of an issue.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:43 AM on 02/08/2008

RussnCA- I wouldn't bet on Hillary getting " traction as Obama's inexperience begins to become more of an issue." As this campaign goes on, his experience has become less of an issue. More voters said on Super Tuesday that change was more important than Experience. And mind you, Obama has 11 years of elected experience to Clinton's seven. I don't count her years as First Lady, given that she won't release her records.

Also, as Frank Rich from the Times points out, her claim of "35 years of experience" just ain't gonna wash next to McCain. 35 years ago, she was in law school while McCain was just being released after five years of being a prisoner of war.

Why should she spend money in the states that Obama is going to win ? This is a smart move by Clinton she has to protect her lead in the states that MATTER not the piddly little states that have a large black voting block.

She will lose the general election with that type of thinking. Of course it doesn't matter if Senator Obama is the nominee.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:59 AM on 02/08/2008

Well I wouldn't call Virginia, Louisiana, and Maryland "piddly little states", but she's spending money there because she has to prevent Obama from taking ALL of their delegates. The Democratic primaries aren't winner-take-all.

But I agree, she needs to be in Texas YESTERDAY. It's the most expensive state in the country to campaign in, and thanks to Tom Delay it has no democratic party machine for her to feed off of so it's going to be a game of money and volunteers.

Incidentally, Texas is for all intents and purposed a caucus state, and independants can vote there.

Obama made a speech against the war, he did not support the Commander in Chief, and he wants to be promoted to the job. They are going to shock you when it turns out that what you think is his strength, will be hammered over and over as showing him to be unpatriotic, and unfit for duty. They will play up his foreign origins, on the down-low, along with all the usual slime.

"Howard Dean, (202) 863-8000, on Hillary's behalf, directly THREATENED Senator Barack Obama to stand down after the Democratic presidential primaries and allow Clinton to receive the Democratic Party presidential nomination." - Tom Heneghan

Howard Dean has sold out to the Clinton Machine.

I got the info from the Tom Heneghan Intel briefing, just sorta stumbled on it earlier tonight. I had a hard time re-locating the link because according to Google and Ask.com the man doesn't exist. Yahoo did better in that three other sites who mentioned his name came up:

But lo and behold he does exist on Yahoo if you link to him from a hyperlink at someone else's blog:
http://blog.myspace.com/tom_heneghan_intel

The "Spywise" site has Heneghan on the "highly credible" list.

Political Animal Planet: Obama's 'Complete' Illinois Public State Senate Voting Record - To Republicans, ... It's What's For Dinner!

Have you ever seen those animal documentaries that show Lions viciously attacking for food? Well, "if" Obama wins the Dem nomination, the Republicans will throw Obama's red-meat Illinois record to rabid right-to-life -and- family-values grass roots advocates, who will coalesce and rally the base, to get out the vote for the GOP. And it will make those gruesome wild animal documentaries on the cable animal channels, look like Sesame Street in comparison; the GOP pack of Lions will politically rip Obama's campaign to pieces. And in a last desperate attempt to escape the carnivorous Republican feast upon Obama's once carefully concealed political record in Illinois, Obama, like a young Gazelle on the Serengeti, will struggle to cry-out one last 'bogus' political breath, "swiftboat." But by then, it will be too late for Obama's campaign, because the Republican voters will have gorged themselves, belly full, on Obama's newly exposed record, leading them to vote for John McCain. And so it goes, the political balance of nature.

***Next week's episode, the 'Independent' pack of voting Hyenas go to work, carnivorously devouring what is left of the political carcass that used to be Obama's presidential campaign! ***

LOL

*Welcome to the Jungle Baby!*
