Obama: Swiftboating Can't Stop Me

Sen. Barack Obama could withstand any last-minute "swift-boat" attacks from Republicans on his race or past drug use because winning the grueling contest for the Democratic nomination will make him the "toughest, baddest candidate on the block," he tells 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft....

...Asked by Kroft if he will be able to endure attacks from "swift-boating" Republicans who may use his race or his youthful drug use against him, Obama replies, "Whoever wins this Democratic primary...they're the toughest, baddest candidate on the block. And if I beat Senator Clinton, then I will be more than capable of beating the Republicans. And if I don't, then she'll be the nominee and [race or past drug use] will be a moot point."

"Sunday's broadcast also features unique coverage of Obama. 60 Minutes was the only news organization allowed to videotape behind the scenes at Obama's Chicago campaign headquarters on Super Tuesday and to record the candidate and his wife as they watched the election coverage on television."

Tell your friends, this could be good. I wouln't be surprised if this isn't one of "60 Minutes" biggest nights.

I can't wait to see Obama's face when Minnesota came in over 2 to 1 for him. I spent two hours talking to an old friend, and another hour putting together an email full of links to get them to reconsider their vote. In the end, they voted for Obama, and they called me back and thanked me. It felt so good to say to myself that I had something to do with that one vote.

I was surprised they didn't know about him, and this made me realize, the only thing standing in Obama's way is people getting to know him. I hope somebody puts together an in depth documentary on his life.

This story at Vanity Fair told me a bunch of stuff I didn't know, and there's some really great pictures of him and his parents when he was a kid. If you are interested, here's the link:

Your anti-Obama post are vacuous and totally devoid of objectivity...You and Ugly Betty should form team and launch an Obama-Haters website, where you can vent and spew hateful BS with your fellow haters. You might even get the KKK/skinhead orgs to advertise and make a lil profit. At least you'd be producing something for youselves, as oppose to making the HP/ObamaPost richer by clicking on this site.

I am in stunned disbelief at the level of out right ignorance, bigotry, and fear mongering that is being posted on this article in the guise of political discourse between an adult electorate. Senator Obama, a Christian American, of African American heritage, is being told in 2008, that he should resign from his campaign because of fear of an unknown and as yet unleashed attack on his character due to his ethnicity, heritage, lineage, name, or previously disclosed drug experience? This is utter nonsense, Senator Obama has been vetted by the Clinton campaign which is one of the most effective political operations in the history of this nation. And, the Clinton political operation has the same resources and propensities as their Republican counterparts - Mr. Obama is not afraid because he has no reason to be afraid - he vetted himself in writing a long time ago - his detractors and opponents can repeat, raise their voices, post misinformation on the internet, and refuse to accept the facts but Senator Obama (like Senator Clinton and Senator McCain) will serve this nation well wether or not s/he is elected President in 2008.

Oh come on. That's pretty clueless.
The Republican slime machine does not need any fact or truth to slime someone.
They use inuendo and rumor to nibble away at people's perceptions. Don't ever underestimate the other side.

How do you think we got this train wreck of an administration?

You got it, AmericanNation. Bullseye.

PLUS, there's the little discussed fact that there IS, indeed, a VERY deep vetting process that anyone that wants to run for president undergoes.

Suffice to say that EVERY charge leveled at the Senator is a telltale sign of utter failure on the part of the Clinton's to identify ANY actual issue upon which to plant their flag. Health care was taken away this week via a thorough review of BOTH policies (check out his town hall meeting on his homepage: www.barackobama.com). Then there's foreign policy (Iraq & Iran, but also diplomacy) where, again, there has been no traction because there is no ground upon which the other candidate can gain a foothold.

So, what's left?

A series of ad hominem, smear the person, attacks.

BELIEVE ME, every time they've tried this HIS poll numbers have risen.

So, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

We just keep walking forward, gaining more momentum and more support all the time.

See you in Denver for his acceptance and in DC for his First Inaugural.

OBAMA '08!!!

The Republicans really wanted Bush to stay in office in 2004 and thus, the Swiftboaters. However, they really don't want McCain, so I don't think Obama would have much of a problem. The Republicans are staying home this election. Let's just wait until Jeb or Crist (sp) decides to run in 2012.

However, if Hillary wins the nomination, that may be a bit more interesting to watch.

DEMS are FINALLY waking up. The logical choice now is to unite Hillary and Barak and prepare for trench warfare. The swift boaters cannot beat the Clinton's and Obama. This is the winning ticket. Obama is a great inspiration. Don't end his career by reaching too far on the first attempt. He can be a great VP, get a lot done, and in 2016 become the first black president. It would be historic. Barak is the man, but not just yet. The number one goal is to take the WH. The reaction the MSM has had towards Hillary tells you they FEAR her, not Obama. Otherwise they would be attacking him. The best thing to do is to admit it will be a draw, and combine forces. We would make history. The first woman president and the first black VP. Do it now.

I think it's hilarious when I read posts where someone says they KNOW what's going to happen. Then they go into these conveluted theories supported by faulty reasoning and extremely weak evidence. From bandwagon appeal and name calling, to glittering genralitites and unreleated testimonials, the reasoning here is truly faulty.

I don't know what's going to happen this November, but I do know it's going to be very different from any election we've ever had. Ever. So, spectulate away you super-theorists, it's highly entertaining.

The Clinton campaign was fairly nasty in SC, but that rebounded.

They could be MUCH nastier. Overstating your opponents' dirty tricks is a preemptive strike, preventing them from doing it. Bill Clinton did it in 92 - when the Gennifer Flowers story broke, he basically laid it at the feet of the Bush campaign even though they had nothing to do with it.

The press understood Bush wasn't the source, but from that point on it innoculated him from any dirty tricks the Bush campaign MIGHT pull.

I think both Obama and Clinton are in sort of funny positions where they're prevented from going negative against each other. Obama can't do it because a man aggressively attacking a woman, even in 2008, provokes sympathy from almost everyone. By the same token Hillary Clinton can't do it because their campaign has such a reputation for sleaze that they have virtually no wiggle room.

The best they could do was have surrogates nip at Obama early in the campaign, but once people figured out the pattern there, they had to stop it because it was making them look bad.

>> Why am I not a top media commentator? I kid you not and I'll swear on a stack of bibles -- I said over 3 years ago that Rush and other conservative shills would be trying to get Hillary elected in 2008.

Why did I know this more than 3 years ago? Because Hillary met with Rupert Murdoch and some other NeoCons. And the fact that the NeoCons have run Republican credibility into the ground -- it's time to run their scams with someone on another team.

This has NOTHING to do with McCain. I think Hillary is brilliant, and she and Obama "sound great" in the debates. However, Rove has been busy making sure that real threats to fascism like Kucinich and Edwards wouldn't make it. And I'm sure the caging going on in California and New York were meant to guarantee the correct Democrat won.

If nothing else, these NeoCons and Bush Crime Family members need to make sure there are no investigations. Bill Clinton before Hillary, chose not to investigate the Reagan/Bush crime spree. So, they need someone who can stay bought.

I'm no fan of McCain, and I'm not sure of Obama as a person who will push for investigations -- but, as usual, I'm going to vote for the person I least distrust.

But really, McCain may not be a Supply-side Republican nutball, but this MOCK outrage from Coulter and Rush -- you explain that. Hillery was the spawn of Satan a few years back, now McCain is somehow worse? How many spawns of Satan can you get from Universal Healthcare? Well, this from the same people who have found a dozen #2 members of Al Qaeda -- who's counting, eh?

The repugs will wait until Obama wins the nomination BEFORE they start with the smearing. That's how it works. Right now, they're laying low hoping he gets the nomination. That's why Ann Coulter "endorsed" Clinton and Limbaugh said he'll help Clinton. They WORK for the right so this tells you they want to turn off Dems toward Clinton in the hopes Obama gets the nomination. Then, the BIG attack begins. Whatever they have on Obama, they must be confident they can beat him.

Wrong. The MSM has attacked the Clinton's every time they have gone on the offensive, calling the attacks unfair and mean. They will have no such reservation to launch attacks on Obama once the truth treat - Hillary, is eliminated. The Clinton's have already beaten the GOP twice. They know how to win. I'll take my chances with them but I want Barak on the ticket as VP. He is awesome and it is time. It would be historic to get a woman AND a black man in the WH in one election. And they could not be beat. Unite the party. Combine forces now.

If they try anything dirty against "Mr. Clean" they will suffer backlash that will send them howling.

Hillary has taken all of the hits that Repblicans could throw at her, and she's still standing. That's why Republicans hate her. She's too strong for them and they know it. The Republicans (with the help of the main stream media) are promoting Obama because they know they can crush him in the general election, and if he thinks they are going to tip toe around him because of his race, he better think again. They will dig up any kind of dirt they can find and make some up on top of it.
