Robin Roberts Walks The Catwalk Wigless

Huffington Post   First Posted: 3/28/08 Updated: 5/25/11

Robin Roberts
"Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts walked the catwalk of Isaac Mizrahi's fashion show this morning as part of GMA's "I Dare You" series. According to ABC.com, "Robin's recent battle with cancer has left her feeling down at times, and she said she thought the dare would be a good way to increase her confidence."

Robin looks great in a red dress as she struts her stuff — wigless — and brings the crowd to a standing ovation. She claimed she went through with the dare on behalf of everyone struggling with something and decided to go wigless after great viewer response to November's video diary, which showed her shaving her head.

Robin is a truly class act.

BUT, whoever put her in that gown with the bat-cape did her a disservice...totally out of proportion, given the sleekness of her elegant shaved head...Strip away the cape-let and then the look would have been a WOW! as well as the woman wearing it.

Loosing your hair is difficult. I couldnt even look in the mirror without a hat on after chemo. This lady is so cool, and looks very nice to boot.

I love it. Sherri (on the view) said (paraphrasing) women in general - and black women in particular - find so much of their identity through their hair, and so it was really brave of her to do that.

There is a freedom in being free. A freedom in just being able to be.

(Probably sounds existentialist, but oh well.) I believe the courage to be what she was at that moment was beautiful.

Beautiful and inspiring.

The Robin Roberts of this world are the ones who make that part of chemo easier by exposing the fact that it isn't really that bad.

When my mom decided to take her hair off before chemo rather than watch it fall out, I was surprised by how lovely she looked without it. She ended up being much less upset by the loss of her hair than she expected. She won the battle but lost the war as a few sneaky cells found their way to her brain.

More inspiring was when the teacher, most of the boys and a few of the girls in my nieces grade 2 class shaved their heads when she was undergoing her chemo. My (now 17 yr. old) niece won the war and has the photo of her return to class where the only way you can tell she's the one with leukemia is because of the steroid puffiness as she smiles from a crowd of equally bald kids.
