Work Life

The New York Times:

THIS is the time of year for talk of love. When you write about the workplace, that tends to mean articles about love at work. Should you date a co-worker? Openly or clandestinely? How are you supposed to meet anyone who isn't a colleague when you spend all your time at work?

This will not be one of those articles. Because judging by my mail, the people mixing love and work are a fairly happy lot. It's a picnic to work with someone you love.

The real challenge is working with someone you hate.

There is always that one person in the office who gets away with being really nasty to others for no reason. Usually they do a job that management thinks is valuable - head of customer service, best sales guy, head of accounting etc. So they look the other way while this person abuses everyone around them.

It's time management grows some balls and tells those people to act professional. You don't have to like everyone you work with but at least you should be able to be polite.

As a freelancer I generally sidestep the office BS and mostly detach from the unlikable people.

however I did come up against someone in a current assignment that is really hard to work with ...a passive-agressive-poor-communicator- who-withholds-information- letting-you-step into-something-so-you-can-be-cahstised-by- him type...I've seen him in action.

I just asked to be releived of this project and it's worked; giving only very professional reasons.(it's not you it's me...)but the point it that life is too short and while some level of BS i can deal with other i cannot; so when I can call it I circumvent it.

Um, that's why theyc all it "work"; otherwise, they'd call if "fun". It would be easy if not for the people.

Get a grip. You're there to do a job, not to play with your friends. Not everyone will like you and you won't like everyone of them. Deal with it.

I had someone who could really push my buttons.
I used to burn about something he did all weekend long.
But then I came across something that worked for me. Whenever I went into the bathroom I would imagine my anger leaving my body with every turd I passed. I would then stand over the toilet an flush 'him' down the toilet.
From then on my nights and weekends were my own again. My anger was under control and his actions didn't push me into doing something stupid.
