Frontrunner McCain To Face Howard Dean Fact Checking

With John McCain poised to win the Republican nomination, Democrats are already gathering ammunition to use against him in the general election.

In more than a few instances, the best fodder has been provided by the candidate himself. A case in point: As the economy was rising late last year as a major issue for voters, McCain in New Hampshire delivered this grenade, with its pin still in it: "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should," he said. "I've got Greenspan's book."

the first thing rich guys try to do politically is buy a war hero. mccain is no exception. i'd also like to know how many civilians the us killed with bombing in viet nam while mccain was being detained. tens of thousands, probably. in other words, a hundred times the nmuber of casualties from 9/11 for which repubs want to torture everybody themselves. mccain is weak on torture. he can't support this war and then claim to be against torture. shove his military record the same place they shoved kerry's. absolutely fair. people don't believe hero bs from pols anyway- except eisenhower and kennedy.

Americans love the bushs and the Clintons so jeb will be a nice choice for vp.

In a dumbed down society name recognition counts most.

Go hillary then jeb then Chelsea then the bush twins. God bless Americans as they slide into third world status and corp fascism.

Let Howard Dean get help get Hillary ready to finally bring to light the following questions that are still not answered:
Travelgate,
cattle futures,
the removal of the Vince Foster documents,
Castle Grande,
billing records
her husband's philandering.
McCain has made statements that can be spun. Maybe Hillary and Bubba Bill should come clean.

First thing to do with McCain is to piss him off. He'll say stupid things when he gets pissed. Tie him to anything smacking of Bush, be it Katrina, Alberto, the war, the economy, whatever. The Pigs will try to limit his public appearances and press interaction as much as they can, because the more one sees of him, the less one likes him. That's whay they need Huckles; he'll charm the media and deliver the South, and be all folksy and quippy and whatnot. McCain will kiss babies and do the photo ops at VFW halls, while Huckleberry wows the Bible-beating lunatics. The Dems need to start skinning Grandpa right now.

Good idea. A couple of pics come to mind... McCain hugging Bush, of course, and Bush & McCain laughing and sharing McCain's birthday cake on the morning after Katrina's deadly devastation.

Here's how the Dems can beat McCain:
Start impeachment proceedings now. Republican malfeasance will be front page news from now until November.

I don't expect anyone to listen, but I know for absolute certain that it would work.

In the last Republican debate, McCain was asked if the country is better off now than it was six or seven years ago. To paraphrase McCain's response: "We are and we're not."
So much for straight talk, forthrightness and all the other cliches the main-steam media use to describe McCain.

He needs to quit trying to act like Hillary. It doesn't quite have the same "spin".

The best thing that the superdelegates can do is to tell Clinton and Obama that they need to start making a case as to why they are better at beating up on McCain and to demonstrate it by...beating up on McCain!

Because if they give McCain a free ride for the next several months while they beat up on each other then the Democrats will be in trouble.

Obama and Clinton need to double the impact on McCain by hitting McCain hard and repeatedly and start putting him on the defensive for the rest of this campaign. Combine that will the lunatics right-wing media going after McCain and some damage can be done to his campaign

The Demos better get busy because there are groups of GOP conservatives that are going to be swift boating McCain real soon here.
He was a coward, not a hero in Vietnam.
Vets against McCain say they have the proof that McCain traded info as in secrets for preferencial treatment while in the concentration camp.
There goal is to get 10% of the registered GOP to sign a pledge promising not to vote for McCain in the general if he is the GOP candidate.
Romny, Huckabee and Paul supporters are lining up to sign.
This should be interesting.

Hit him, hit him hard, hit him relentlessly and start now. Tie him to bush, tie him to the neocons, tie him to bob jones, and repeat everywhere the vast collection of nonsensical, idiotic, contradictory statements he's made. Point out his war-mongering and the dearth of policies that will actually help real people in America. We're not letting up this time, and we are in it to win it.

he wants war and lots of it to appease his loss in nam.

he found the right country for war as americans love war.

There's nothing crazy about winning and the dems have showed us all to often that they need a dose of pumping up and towel-waving. And if we think we're going to win this by sitting around watching the repubs implode, well wake up man. The repubs are a well-oiled anything-goes fighting machine and we've got to stay motivated and work hard to defeat it.

Charles Keating Jr.'s Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, a subsidiary of his American Continental Corporation, was insolvent due to some bad loans. In order to regain solvency, Lincoln sold investment in a real estate venture as a FDIC insured savings account. This caught the eye of federal regulators who were looking to shut it down. It is alleged that Keating contacted five senators to whom he made contributions. McCain was one of those senators and he met at least twice in 1987 with Ed Gray, chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, seeking to prevent the government's seizure of Lincoln. Between 1982 and 1987, McCain received approximately $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates. In addition, McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family and baby-sitter made at least nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard the American Continental jet. After learning Keating was in trouble over Lincoln, McCain paid for the air trips totaling $13,433.
Eventually the real estate venture failed, leaving many broke. Federal regulators ultimately filed a $1.1 billion civil racketeering and fraud suit against Keating, accusing him of siphoning Lincoln's deposits to his family and into political campaigns. The five senators came under investigation for attempting to influence the regulators. In the end, none of the senators were convicted of any crime, although McCain was rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising "poor judgment" for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating.

Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. ons.

McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas.
