STOCKHOLM (AFP) - If Barack Obama becomes the next US president he will surely be assassinated, British Nobel literature laureate Doris Lessing predicted in a newspaper interview published here Saturday.

Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, "would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him," Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.

"The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama," she said.

A very irresponsible statement by someone using their notoriety for casual opinion-making. If she wants to speak off-the-cuff like that, she needs to get a HuffPo username (or whatever blogsite) and do it the right way, so that her words can be challenged and commented on directly to her.

Wow, the Clintons and their ilk are racist beyond belief. Frank Rich was all too prophetic in today's NYTimes column and I have no doubt that they are calling in favors all over the world now. Billary literally stinks of desperation manure.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/10/opinion/10rich.html?ref=opinion

Hill's Shills have no shame and no souls. How low is the world's opinion of America when foreigners proclaim that America's citizens are soulless, heartless, mindless, and hateful to the point of presuming that the assertion of such world treason is not a remote, asinine possibility but the absolutely giddy guarantee of a crone on her death-bed?!

Billary has pulled out all of the stops to get a foreign surrogate to rally the call to fear amongst the dumbest and most gullible Americans. I hope this latest tactic blows up in her face like a land-mine. The Clintons are America's worst fear-mongers and have now topped Bush with his release of fake Osama tapes days before the November 2004 election.

Here is my answer the the dried-up, senile British hag (and I pray she reads it before she takes her last breath not soon enough): Obama should choose Colin Powell as Vice President. Thus, I see your insulting, racist assassination threat and raise you an inevitable BLACK MAN PRESIDENT. That ought to send her into cardiac arrest.

independentrepublicrat,
What has Hillary Clinton got to do with Doris Lessing?
You must be ignorant of the genius of Doris Lessing.

Most humans are ruled by their existential fears of the dangers on earth.
Doris Lessing is an existentialist.
So, I understand her fears for Senator Barack Obama.
The Kennedys and millions of other Americans have already compared him to the tragic figure of JFK and I have called him a cosmic irony, but not a tragic irony of American Democracy.

I do not support Barack Obama for President, but I am ready to lay down my life to save his life if I find myself in such a critical emergency.

I do not want Barack Obama to become the black JFK.
I want him to be better and greater than JFK.

The Kennedys should bear the cross of their own political Karma and not hang it on Barack Obama.

Orikinla: "I do not want Barack Obama to become the black JFK. I want him to be better and greater than JFK."

It's the JFKness that scares me to think about this. JFK was assassinated, after he okayed assassinating Castro. You hate what happened to him, but you also hate the terrible irony that he approved the same thing first.

In one of the early Democratic debates, the candidates were asked if they would authorize dropping a bomb that they thought might kill bin Laden but might also kill innocent people in the vicinity. Obama said yes. That has always bothered me.

Please remove this post, I find it very hurtful, the author of it is stating an opinion, everyone knows that opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one and they all stink.

I like that wake up song. Last year, I also predicted a different wake up song would win @ The Oscars. As for the comment, it is the same old song with a different meaning since the destiny codes I have charted actually agree with the Nobel winner, if Obama were to win, which the codes do not show. Someone said "I guess they'll give Nobels to just anybody..." My sentiments exactly. This is about as irresponsible as it gets. I think it's important to note that they mentioned her age (88) in the piece which was probably an indirect, subtle attempt at explaining such a comment. The old coot should retire.

I don't think Obama will be assinated. The Secret Service has gotten very good at what they do. Proof? The current moron they protect still breathes, one of the most hated men on Earth.

Assassinating Obama would be a shame. Let's avoid that horrific possibility altogether by simply voting for McCain.

Got it? VOTE McCAIN - save Obama's life.

It's the bleeding heart thing to do.

If the plan by those who commit assassinations is to assassinate Obama, it would happen during the primaries, as it would probably be easier to kill him prior to his being one of the two contenders for the Presidency or after he is elected President. During the primaries for the 1968 Presidential election both Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated. When George Wallace ran in 1972, the assassination attempt against him that left him paralyzed occurred while he was running for the Democratic nomination for President. (There was a fear he might run as an independent and pull enough votes away from Nixon that the Dems might win.)

I don't think there will be an attempt to assassinate Obama, as he has refused to commit to leaving Iraq and is pro unbridled free trade (despite rhetoric against both, his record shows him to be in favor of them). Those who decide on assassinating Presidential aspirants probably want him to be elected, as they think he might be more able to achieve US goals without resort to resource-sapping cowboy militarism by giving a wholly different face to the US image abroad.

But if it is to happen, it will probably happen soon, if history gives us any clues about such despicable, horrendous events.

I would like to think that the Secret Service will pay attention to the postings on this particular topic. It comes to me, a great fear, that Barack is at great risk in Texas. When it comes down to the Texas primaries, Barack will have an heir of certainty that he could be President. He will be exposed as he campaigns, certainly he needs to be careful from here on out, but Texas concerns me particulary with their LARGE supremacist population.

If documents of his family tree is correct, Harding was the first Black President. But even the FBI is documented as going through great pains to hide all evidence. Which resurfaced later. So technically, Obama, if elected, may not be able to take the title of the first Black President. Maybe the first president who admits he is black, but he very well may not be the first black president.

and after all, being the first anything as president hasnt always worked out all that well for the country. For instance. Wasnt Kennedy the first president to admit to being catholic??

One I know for sure is that Bush is the first MBA president, and we see how that has turned out.

Maybe being first , doesnt mean your the best. So being as Harding was most likely the first black president, that means Obama would be in the clear.

Or not
just a thought.

Dont forget that Roosevelt was the first disabled president. and we have had many since then. LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, George W. Bush were all mentally ill.

what's most interesting is that the link to the "full" story still only takes you to a half-assed non-story fleshed out around this comment. provides little if any context or further coverage of the conversation that would lead to such a statement. and yet, the most rabid supporters of Obama as SO quick to assume that this woman had some sort of attachment to Hilary Clinton and had some pro-Clinton agenda? I've tried to find a connection -- how is you've managed to research it so successfully? Really -- how do you know this?

Did your tin foil hat help you decipher this information in code from Uranus?

What a dumb thing for her to say.
The fact is the Republicans have been hunting every Democrat for a long time.
Its thier Elimination Program. And it has been going on since the sixties.
But to use it as an excuse not to vote for somebody...well thats just wrong and Lessing needs to shut up!
