Nobel Winner: Obama Will Be Assassinated If He Wins

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - If Barack Obama becomes the next US president he will surely be assassinated, British Nobel literature laureate Doris Lessing predicted in a newspaper interview published here Saturday.

Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, "would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him," Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.

"The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama," she said.

Hillary as vice president would ensure the safety of President Obama, just as Cheney protects Bush. Hillary is Cheney in a pants suit.

There is a lot of truth here, but I don't think Hillary is the right choice for VP in order to fill the role of life insurance policy. The trick is to find someone who seems harmless enough to the masses, not well known enough to have inspired intense dislike, but in actually is such an ideologue that once their true positions come out, not even the looniest lone gunman would try a potshot. While I agree that there are very few right wingers who would see Hillary as preferable enough to assassinate Obama over, Clinton would do too much damage to the ticket. Her negatives would still get out the crazies to vote against her, even if she were just the VP nominee, because they would see it as setting her up for 2016.

Obama needs a Feingold, Kucinich, Sherrod Brown, Barbara Boxer, or dare I say Edwards, type running mate to boost the ticket in the short term and also serve as life insurance. I doubt he will pick any of those people, he will probably go for someone with more military or foreign policy experience, but if he picks a moderate white guy(Wes Clark, Jim Webb); look out...the assassination thing is a real possibility.

Some fear that no matter which Democrat is elected POTUS in '08 they may be murdered before 1/20/09 & will have very little chance of not being publicly murdered before the end of their 1st term as POTUS. Both HRC & BHO are hated as being uppity by a number of white men who would be quite willing to die in a hail of bullets after publicly murdering HRC or BHO. The Mayor of Chicago was killed when an attempt to murder FDR before he took office happened; it happened in Miami. As I recall the murderer died in a demeaning way soon after the murder & his attempt to murder FDR. The murderer had one of those traditional American trials; try him quick & fair; find him guilty quickly; execute him legal & quick; forget him; he was never any good, anyway.
Rightly or wrongly many feel that a person who died after an attempt to or successful murder HRC &/or BHO would become a folk hero to those of his ilk regardless of how & when he died. There is also a possibility that a woman might do it too.
Gun violence is American as apple pie. Both JFK & RFK were murdered. The person who shot RWR is still confined to DC's St Elizabeth Hospital. A Mr Brady was disabled in that attack. Laws restricting the sale & ownership of guns are called Brady Bills. These laws were eviscerated before they became law & have been weakened more as time has passed.
