Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro took on front-running Republican presidential candidate John McCain Monday, accusing him of lying about Cubans torturing American prisoners of war in Vietnam.

At a campaign stop in Miami last month, the Arizona senator told anti-Castro exiles that American POWs held with him in Hanoi were tortured by "a couple of Cubans."

Speaking on 25 January, Mr McCain told supporters in Florida: "There's a person I want you to help me find when Cuba is free, and that's that Cuban that came to the prison camps of North Vietnam and tortured and killed my friends. We'll get him and bring him to justice, too."

"Let me remind you, Mr. McCain: the commandments of the religion you practice prohibit lying," Castro wrote in an essay published by the Communist Party newspaper Granma. "The years in prison and the wounds received because of the attacks on Hanoi do not excuse you from the moral obligation of the truth,"

"His accusation against internationalist Cuban revolutionaries, using the nickname Fidel to identify one who was capable of 'torturing a prisoner until they died' lacks even a minimum of ethics,"

It's possible.

I don't know if it happened, but it's certainly possible that there were some Cuban "advisors" in North Vietnam. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some North Koreans as well.

The Communist countries were working fairly closely together at that point. At least before the Russian-Chinese alliance split up in 1968.

Personally I believe Castro . . . mccain is as bigger liar as the chimp . . . and as brain damaged . . . mccain is too damaged psychologically to be prez . . . and that is an understatement . . . he should be retired . . .

Fred woke up for this? Help from Thompson will probably suck energy out of the campaign - the guy is useless and proved it during his own campaign... Go Fred!
