EL PASO, Texas — Trying to overcome a string of losses and a staff shake-up, Hillary Rodham Clinton sought new energy Tuesday night from a boisterous crowd of about 12,000 in a state she hopes will provide a rebound in her quest for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton, whose rallies had been overshadowed by rival Barack Obama's huge crowds, arrived at the packed University of Texas at El Paso basketball arena as voters were giving Obama victories in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

But her sights were set on the March 4 Texas and Ohio primaries and on President Bush.

"I'm tested, I'm ready, let's make it happen," she yelled to cheering supporters.

She slipped into a "you all" and criticized Bush, the former Texas governor.

"There's a great saying in Texas," she said, "all hat and no cattle. Well after seven years of George Bush, we need a lot less hat and lot more cattle."

Clinton did not mention Tuesday's results, but there were lingering signs of the disquiet in her campaign.

Her deputy campaign manager resigned Tuesday, the latest departure in a staff shake-up follows string of losses to Barack Obama.

In an e-mail message to staffers, Mike Henry said he was stepping down to allow campaign manager Maggie Williams to build her own team. Williams replaced Patti Solis Doyle during the weekend. Solis Doyle had recruited Henry to join the campaign last year.

"Out of respect for Maggie and her new leadership team, I thought it was the best thing to do," Henry wrote. "As someone who has managed campaigns, I share the unique understanding of the challenges that the campaign will face over the next several weeks. Our campaign needs to move quickly to build a new leadership team, support them and their decisions and make the necessary adjustments to achieve the winning outcome for which we have all worked so hard for over a year now."

It was unclear whether Henry was forced out.

Obama continued to rack up wins Tuesday, beating Clinton by a nearly 2-to-1 margin in Virginia and also winning easily in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Henry was the campaign's main field architect and was best known for writing a memo in the spring urging Clinton not to compete in Iowa, "our consistently weakest state." The memo was leaked to the news media, which embarrassed Clinton as she was beginning to build an organization in Iowa.

Clinton placed third in Iowa, behind Obama and John Edwards, who has since left the race. Her campaign has struggled since then.

Guy Cecil, another top field strategist, was expected to succeed Henry.

Clinton did not spend much time or money in the Potomac River region. She canceled a tentative event in the Washington area as voting was under way Tuesday.

Instead, she spent about an hour in a makeshift television studio in her Arlington, Va., national headquarters conducting interviews via satellite with 10 television stations in Texas, Ohio and Wisconsin.

She made it clear that the March 4 primaries in Ohio and Texas were crucial milestones in her campaign.

"Ohio is really going to count in determining who our Democratic nominee is going to be," she told WCPO in Cincinnati. She reminded Texans that her first job in politics was for the Democratic Party in 1972 registering Hispanic voters in South Texas. "I still have friends from those experiences," she said.

Clinton also planned to campaign in Wisconsin, which holds its primary on Feb. 19. But she told one interviewer in Milwaukee that the race there was "an uphill challenge."

"I'm the underdog candidate in that race," she said.

She is airing television ads statewide in Ohio and Texas. She also is placing Spanish language ads in Texas. On Tuesday she also began airing ads in Wisconsin. She planned to go to Ohio late Wednesday and then to Wisconsin on Saturday.

I could just hurl.

This is a @#$% cult and people are so desperate for something they're jumping the bandwagon.

McCain will eat this guy for lunch.

He's not qualified.

Once the American electorate starts to get their heads around Barak Obama or John McCain for president, I guarantee, they will come running back to team Clinton.

I just don't see what you people see in him. If you want spirtual uplifting, go to church.

It is NOT government's role to provide that.

Don't forget that W was also promising some kind of spiritual component.

Horse puppies! Hillary Clinton is one of the most reviled public figures in recent American history. Half the country has sworn never to vote for her--under any circumstances. Her negative numbers are legendary. How can she possibly be a stronger candidate than Obama to oppose McCain? Furthermore, her vote for the war in Iraq bespeaks the most craven sort of political cowardice and opportunism. Anyway, this is probably all a moot point. As of this writing, Hillary has lost eight (8) state primaries in a row. If she isn't toast, she's certainly getting crispy around the edges.

If you feel that strongly, you should consider writing letters to the newspapers and volunteering to help out the campaign. I agree with you, but your thoughts are wasted on people who have already closed their minds to reasoning.

I too enjoyed the time Bill Clinton was President. But it was Bill that was President not Hillary. Hillary help end the Democrats control of Congress with her behind the door healthcare plan. She also voted to invade and occupy Iraq. She has not admitted that was a mistake..in fact the only critism of the Bush Invasin is that she would have "managed the Invasion and Occupation better"....No the fact are their was never any reason to invade Iraq..PERIOD. Secondly I don't she where her experience advantage has provided any REAL results for the American people. While I will support Hillary if she gets the nomination it will be luke-warm at best and I won't waste one second trying to convince anyone to vote for her.
The accustions I have read about Obama are crazy. Obama is not under investigation for anything nor has he ever been. The same cannot be said for Hillary. Again I will vote for her if she is the nominee but if you think the Republicans will come after Obama just wait and see how they come after Hillary. I don't know why the republicnas hate her and Bill so much and why the media will repeat any lie or unfounded accusation as if it's the truth.
The facts are that Hillary or Obama would make far better President than McCain but I just think Obama would make a better choice than Hillary.

Sometimes we become so bogged down with pre-conceived ideas that we completely miss what is staring us in the face.

Many keep saying that Hillary has the "experience" but what is painfully clear to me now is,

One year ago, a relatively unknown candidate embarked on what has become the most brilliant, superbly organized, all-encompassing campaigns this country has ever seen.

So I ask the question: Why is Hillary's 35 years of "experience" not helping her campaign? This needs to be asked because if she is incapable of running a successful campaign, how then can she run this nation successfully?

These are some of the areas in which Hillary stumbled:

1) She lacked judgment when choosing the most appropriate people to spear-head her campaign. There is internal drama as it appears she unwisely chose long-time associates rather than the most brilliant minds available to her.
*** Similarly, she will be more inclined to choose long time Clinton loyalists for Government appointments rather than who is best for the job.

2) She completely discounted the youth population. She never courted them until she realized how they were affecting the Obama's campaign. By then, it was too late.
Poor judgment and oversight, an overwhelming lack of vision.

3) She and her campaign team NEVER realized the huge impact of the internet in our society. By the time they got wind of the possibilities, Obama had already capitalized on that avenue.
Simply incomprehensible as to her campaign's lack of creativity and cluelessness.

4) Finances: Hillary relied heavily on the large donations from Corporate America totally ignoring the financial capacity of the average American's $20.00 donation.

In each of these areas where Hillary failed, Barack Obama capitalized with his insight, sound judgment, connection to what is relevant in today's society and his recognition of our huge potential of untapped sources.

In conclusion, let us not be misled by the hype but instead look clearly at the facts in front of our eyes. Her 35 yrs experience doesn't seem to be very relevant to the fluid issues of today's reality.

If it wasn't so serious it would be funny.

With William's reputation of dishonesty, it would make sense the deputy would have to have the same character. Clinton is pulling out all the stops. This is going to get really interesting.

Hillary has now resorted to Rudy's strategy, which must be in the water in New York. Go for the knockout punch in the big states.

One caveat, however. Hillary put her name on the ballot and campaigned in states where she pledged she wouldn't - Michigan and Florida. Not exactly kosher, huh?

Musing without any relevance to Texas, it is useful to point out that, in addition to preferring the superior character and promise of Obama, white men prefer Obama over Clinton because Hillary it the mother-in-law archetype to American males: petty, bitchy, intrusive, nagging and self-centered...other than that...

Know who you are voting for. Read the fine print. Read between the lines. If you were hiring someone for a critical job you would want someone you KNEW was qualified, not someone you HOPED was qualified.
The president you elect will effect you, your children, and your children's children the rest of their lives. My wife I had the best times of our lives during the Clinton Administration. I worked in an auto assembly plant in Michigan and retired after 39 years. Our family has always discussed the presidential canditates before voting. We than made our decision. My wife and I have never seen a presidential canditate we knew would not provide a future for our country and our family until Barack Obamma. Read issues from The Washington Post, Huffington Post, The New York Times, The L.A. Times, and others. Barack Obamma has lied about his dealings with the Chicago School System. Lou Dobbs had the Chicago School System Administrator on his show on CNN who said the school system was in shambles. Obamma's wife told Larry King that her kids went to a private school and would never go to Chicago Public School. It was also mentioned on the "Tucker" show Obamma's wife said she would never support Hillary Clinton if she was the Democratic Nominee or President. Is this who you want in the White House ? Obamma is also being investigated for dealings/contributions from Antoin "Tony" Rezko. Antoin "Tony" Rezko, an indicted business man is accused of scheming to pressure companies seeking state business for kick backs and campaign contributions pouring thousands of dollars into Obamma's campaign. Rezko also helped Obamma increase the size of his yard in a transaction that Obamma now calls a "bone head" mistake.

I invite all Americans 2 read all of Hillary's speeches made around the world that can b accessed on the former Clinton- Gore administration website. It will give u an insight in2 the experiences she gained from talking & proactively working with the international community on universal causes such as women's right's, human right's, investing in the children's future, which overlapped with promoting that every individual should have access 2 quality education, & healthcare regardless of income, gender, race, religion, disabilty, age etc.

http://clinton4.nara.gov/WH/EOP/First_Lady/html/issues.html

http://clinton4.nara.gov/WH/EOP/First_Lady/html/iinternational.html

I'm a UK uni student who supports Hillary & is providing links 2 this website 2 provide u with evidence of her independent work as 1st lady in working with the international community on causes she had spent a lifetime working at the local & state & national level, because I'm upset & outraged as 2 how the biased US Press has belittled and denied her work. Hence I'm starting a virtual movement like the Ron Paul supporters did 2 counteract the biassed US media, to make sure Americans can reach informed assessments on the candidate. B part of this movement, not by trashing other candidates but by simply posting the websites above that I provided on as many blogs as possible, & on youtube & e-mailing it 2 your friends 2 give the national audience a chance 2 read her speeches around the world to reach their own informed conclusions objectively.

I particulary want u 2 read the speeches she made in N.Ireland in the “women as citizens” section on the website, where she engaged with the community 2 encourage them 2 work 4 de facto peace through working together on the universal issues that I mentioned earlier. Please suggest that Hillary provides her knowledge & personal experience in being involved in resolving the N.Ireland conflict based on political & religious differences & people seeking revenge for loved ones lost in the conflict, 2 the Iraqi government 2 help them resolve internal conflicts in Iraq 4 similar reasons.

Aren't you taking things out of context ... with all due respect (and certainly not to Lou Dobbs), Larry King and etc ... What you have said is the Chicago school system is in shambles and Michelle Obamma sends her children to private school. Well, guess Senator and President Clinton sent their children to private school as well ... And, of course having researched this (on Lou Dobbs and Tucker the height of objective reporting and juried journal articles) you come up with a statement about Obama: how?
First and foremost it was during the Clinton administration that the school "choice" people began their destruction of the public education system ... stripping public schools of funding ... It was President Clinton who supported the whole testing and measurement industry ... while using vacuous words such as "high standards" (which like the word excellence so often used by schools during his administration) means nothing since the word is tied to a measurement that is obscured from you ... but you buy into it because excellence well that sounds great ... I want excellent schools ... returning to the testing industry (and it is a multi-million dollar a year industry) I suggest you read Berliner and Biddle's book the Manufactured Crisis ...
What you have said and presented as an equation surrounding Clintons and Obamas stance on education makes no sense at all

continued ...
I am glad you and your wife had a great time during the Clinton administration but a great time was not had by all ... certainly not to single mothers who suffered from Clinton's removal of AFDC (something that had been helping poor single mothers since the 1930's) and let's not forget his TANF program which had many mothers have to leave their children alone at home?
Obama's relationship and dealings with Rezko have been investigated and there is nothing there and while you cite corruption on Obama's part let me refer you to the laundry list of corruption charges against Clinton --- yes president Clinton is a DISBARRED attorney ...
Yes he said Rezko was a mistake and he returned the money but do not give the Clinton's a pass please what about the picture of the Clinton's with Rezko? And what about the Clinton co-campaign chair Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa taking funds from him ... at least Obama came forward said it was a mistake and returned the funds ...
Obama is qualified and has had more legislative experience than Senator Clinton and although she may be ready on day one the reality is her votes demonstrate a hawkish stance on Iraq ... she suppports cluster bombing ... and yesterday she did not bother showing up to vote on the Dodd Amendment one of the most important amendments in her tenure at the senate ... continued

I wasn't going to comment but people commenting on blogs just love to tear somebody apart, like its blood sport without the blood.

Geez, I'm going to be the first one here to give him props if Hussein Obama gets the nom and makes it by some miracle as president. Like someone said here, when he waves his wand and unites this divided nation he'll get my respect. And I'm going to remind those who were swayed by the rock star and the media package and the buyer's remorse after reality sets in and he doesn't deliver because the Congress is the old guard and to get something done, you have appease the dinosaurs who sabotage the will of the people left right and center. Obama is a newbie, educated so he speaks well, THATS all. Jeez didn't you learn anything from that doofus we are calling president today?

When he went into the Congress as a rookie senator, he was put in his place by none other than John McCain. Remember that?

Did you all forget what the Clintons did for you just 7 years ago? Are you better off today than you were then? No? I didn't think so.

It aint over till they stop counting the delegates. We're at the 3rd quarter.

youcannotbeserious,

Well, yes we can, to coin a phrase.

Memories, as sung by Barbra, are not getting us where we need to be.

And, please try to remember, since you are in the memory mode, that it was none other than John McCain (he who "put bush in his place") who gave bush a big ol kiss after bush had defamed him and his family in the SC primary.

As for the Clinton years and Bill's presidency. Those years are so over.

These times call for new and shall we say improved leadership; that would be Barack Obama.

Youcannotbeserious, and no one can take your comment seriously if you refer to the candidate as Hussein Obama.
My candidate is out of the race. I worked hard for him because I recognized the thinness of experience in both Clinton and Obama.
I thought from the beginning, and I've seen them both in person multiple times that Clinton is capable and admirable, but that Obama may have greatness in him. I thought it was not yet his time.
Now, I think I was wrong about that. And I say:
Yes We Can.
He will assemble a capable experienced cabinet around him.

It's amazing to me, as a Democrat, that the supporters of each candidate are directing more ill will toward each other and at OUR party's two candidates than anyone appears to be directing at John McCain. It's really gotten a bid rabid. Do you people not realize that by demonizing each other and the candidate you don't prefer you're simply creating more animosity and playing right into Republican hands?! No matter who gets the nomination, Clinton or Obama, I genuinely fear that this ridiculousness will deliver the presidency to John McCain, and that, my friends, will be just as bad as having another 4 years of George W. Bush. I was initially going to vote for Obama, but his lofty rhetoric just hasn't swayed me. Somewhat to my surprise, Hillary has made her case for me and I will be voting for her in Ohio's primary. But that's no reason to attack me. I am a reasonable person and I can appreciate Obama's good qualities too. And whether Obama supporters want to admit it or not, Hillary DOES have good qualities. Please Democrats, don't be so short-sighted. The way Hillary's being treated now is the way Obama will inevitably be treated by the Republicans if he becomes our nominee, so we need to show some measure of solidarity here! Obama's not going to be able to coast through this thing forever. There are tough times ahead, no matter who our candidate is, and we need to stand together as a party to defeat John McCain. To be as frank as I can - please everyone, pull your heads out of your asses!

Thank you for your sensibility. Obama's campaigning on a feeling (hope) could have the same result as waging a war on a feeling (terror). The GOP will have a hayday with him, God knows there is enough material out there. No, this is NOT fear-based, just reality.
