ESPN's Chris Berman Caught On Camera Talking About Smuggling Canadian Pills

Chris Berman

Huffington Post/College Humor   First Posted: 3/28/08 Updated: 5/25/11

UPDATE: At first it seemed like Chris's calling the pills "djhe djhe djhes" was his attempt to hide some deeply illicit name. But on closer inspection, it seems like he's trying to say "deux deux deux," a theory that is supported by his calling them "two two twos" at one point. Amazing! The man speaks French! Do you agree? Let us know in the comments. Any word from the Canucks?

---

One would imagine that by now ESPN sportscaster Chris Berman would have figured out that his crew keeps the camera running during commercial breaks. YouTube is littered with his outtakes ranging from temper tantrums to his trying to finagle a table for his friends.

The clip you are about to watch, however, puts all of them to shame. In an unusually candid moment, Berman confesses to having downed four pills with an unintelligible name to stay awake before a game. What kind of pill? Apparently it's Canadian Asprin with a little bit of codeine in it ("just enough to give you that pop"). Hot tip: "You put it in all the corners of your suitcase."

Watch Chris explain why he always hopes to have one Blue Jays game a year:

I don't know who this sports celebrity is, but it doesn't really matter. This shouldn't be an issue in the first place. The guy wouldn't have to smuggle substances out of Canada if they were available to responsible adults here where supposedly our freedoms are all so important to us. An adult's privacy should include uses of whatever substance they decide they'd like. The crime here is a government (our government) using its power to needlessly screw people over based on the puritanical views of dimwits for whom pleasure is the sole purview of their immaginary magical guy in the sky. The problems generated by a population heavily dosed with the culture of prison (itself an indictment against any claims of legitimacy to govern)far surpass the problems of the few adults who can't handle their choices and need some help. Help they would be more likely to get if there weren't a wall of threats built on religous doctrine that has no business in our justice system in the first place.

222s WHOOOP!!! 222s WHOOP! (WHOOP! the signature sound Chris makes-I can't figure out how to write it)- you know, like when a receiver or running back makes a great move or juke. Hey, impeach Bush, Cheney, Rice, etc- but this is not a big deal. The Canucks are cool. Just dont sell to kids, which I presume they dont.

Yep 222's are behind the counter - you have to ask for them...you should be reasonably sane looking, that's the only requirement...

This should not be scandalized. He's a good sports anchor who works his ass off c'mon people there just a couple of "Dadada's?" and on the plus side, Berman is engaging us all in a healthy and necessary debate on prescription drug coverage reform.

The internet doesn't turn people into assholes, it only magnifies and highlights their assholeness.

If I was Chris Berman I'd be walking through hotel lobbies in a bathrobe, loosely tied, drinking vodka from the bottle and escorting a high priced hooker. What the hell.

"Any word from the Canucks?"

This Canuck wonders why you guys are making such a big deal of it...

Nope, Hillary won't make 222s legal in the US, nor will Barack, I presume... ;)

wow, some dude in makeup caught talking about drugs. berman and those fools on espn are a joke.

they are 222's available from the pharmacist without prescription - you have to ask for them, not otc.

I use the generic 222's - codeine, aspirin, caffeine - to stave off migraines all the time - have to take it right when you first realize you are entering the migraine zone otherwise it's pain time....

but codeine to stay awake?

idiot. keep yer fat mouth shut about it. some of us would like the issue to be IGNORED!
11:02 AM on 02/13/2008
Why would anyone take codeine to perk themselves up?

SO many people are dying from massive heart attacks - makes you wonder about pharmaceuticals and theor producton in China. Did you know 80% of the stuff ismanufactured in China? See this :

Swallowed a bad pill lately?

Yes, Chris Berman speaks French. Years ago, when ESPN did an Expos game in Montreal and he was the announcer, he would sprinkle in comments in French here and there. Camera shows a baby sleeping, Berman says "The baby sleeps," in French, things like that.

Goddammit, why can't I live closer to Canada. It would be so nice to experience all their freedom and liberty. I cannot imagine living in a country where you are free to do as you please with your own body. I hear their sex industry is pretty liberal as well, eh? You guys should read the book "Blood and Power" by Stephen Fox. He talks all about the WASP influence on politics. (Woman were given the right to vote in an effort to subdue minority ((non-WASP)) votes. They knew the WASP'y girls would pass Temperance. The more I read the more I despise the PUBLIC EDUCATION (brainwashing) I received as an impressionable child. If you want your children to think DO NOT SEND THEM TO PUBLIC SCHOOL>
