Rendell Obama

The racial components of the 2008 Democratic Primary refuse to go away. On Tuesday, Gov. Ed Rendell, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter, told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that he believed some Pennsylvania voters would not support Barack Obama simply because of his race.

"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate," the Governor said, ironically, to a black reporter. "I believe, looking at the returns in my election, that had Lynn Swann [2006 Republican gubernatorial candidate] been the identical candidate that he was -- well-spoken, charismatic, good-looking -- but white instead of black, instead of winning by 22 points, I would have won by 17 or so."

This is the second time in as many days that the topic of Obama's racial appeal (or, in Rendell's case, lack of biracial appeal) has been brought up by the Clinton campaign. Yesterday, the Senator herself suggested that Obama's weekend win in the Louisiana primary was the product of, primarily, the black vote.

"In the case of Louisiana," she said, "you know, a very strong and very proud African-American electorate, which I totally respect and understand."

Obama has, in his primary victories, picked up a vast majority of the black vote. But his margins among the white electorate have increased as well. In California, according to exit polls, he and Clinton were virtually tied among the later.

Here come the surrogates again! Sheehan, Kerry, Bob Johnson & Bill Clinton have been joined by Rendell. Its time to vote our aspirations, not our fears. Our time for change has come.

Nobody seem to have any comment if Hillary gets the big latino votes and the hispanic community voting for her by a big margin. How about the old white women voters helping her stay alive in this election? Each candidate has some group backing stronger than the other group. What is the big deal? If there are some whites who won't support Obama just for his color, then those voters are a disgrace to this nation.

I agree with the poster above. If they qualify their vote based on skin color, they sure as heck will use the same criteria applied to gender to vote against Senator Clinton.

I don't believe Ed Rendell is a racist, personally, just as I do not believe this of Bill or Hillary Clinton.

But their habit of re-emphasizing race is extremely sad to watch, particularly when it is also equated to "conservatism.".

I will never forgive them for this.

They are worse than racist. They are pitting the races against each other for political gain. Evil.

I'm sorry, but I will not either. When there's nothing else, they always pull out the old race card and I for one am sick of it! Most people I believe have moved beyond this, what is wrong with these people?

I'd be just as disgusted if an Obama surrogate came out and said that Hillary was unworthy of support because a some idiotic neanderthal men wouldn't vote for a woman.

Shame on Hillary surrogate Ed Rendell for playing the race card.

SHAME!

OtayPanky... Really now!!!
I am Male and strongly believe in Equality Feminism... Equality, regardless of Race, Sex, or Sexual Orientation... Simply, Equality...
I am more concerned we are again, being Corporate MSM sold another "President" who, like G W Bush, is bringing us Change... Remember, after the "Clinton's", Bush was bringing us the MOST ETHICAL Government, ever....
I am concerned that the Obama Campaign has Played to Race and played the Race Card many times... I think ultimately, this will lead to a backlash and act to Divide, not bring people together... Oprah's promoting a first Black President... Michelle's, Black guilt trip, if you are Black and don't vote Black, you're asleep... And accusing the Clinton's of making racial statements several times, even though Race, or skin color was never mentioned... (Inferring guilt trip I suppose, if your White and don't vote for a Black Man, you're a racist???)
I won't vote for Obama because I believe he is behaving like a Racist...
3 kinds of Racists...
# 1 = Blatant Racist... Outspoken... See another Race as lesser...
# 2 = Conscious Racist... Make Race an issue...
# 3 = Unwitting Racist... Racist and doesn't know it...
Let me address # 3, Unwitting Racist, first... If I think (within me) in terms of Black Person, Black America, for example, I am doing unwitting Racism... Oprah and Cosby might be examples... Clearly they care about persons with Black skin tones... People with dark skin (Black) can be unwitting Racist also... We will end Racism, when we think automatically of the Personhood first and foremost...
# 2 = Conscious Racist... Make Race an issue... Reverends Jackson and Sharpton, classic examples in my opinion... Consciously attempt to make Life into Racial issues...
# 1 = Blatant Racist... Really, speak for their own Hate and bias...
* Note: Clearly, Sexism fits much the same as Racism... Organized Religions practice Segregation and create Labels in these categories... Segregation is part of a Divide from Personhood, to Conquer and , or Control...

No, you're the "really now" case. Illustrate how Barack Obama is a racist. Is he standing in front of schools to bar others from entering? Has he decided that he will hire only his kind? Has he ordained "separate but equal" facilities for his campaign workers? Is he shooting unarmed HillBillary campaign workers in the streets? Has he advocated redlining the neighborhoods of McKook supporters? Is he bombing the churches of Huckleberry supporters?

What kind of racist is Obama?

If your are defined by your race ,as we are in America (have to tell your race on every fucking form you fill out) then LIFE IS A RACIAL ISSUE. Speak of what you know and dont speak for my children, moron.

That is a really reactionary and clearly unsupported definition of racism --- where did you get it from the Aryan Nation or KKK play book?

You can be prejudiced (eg pre-judge) someone if you are part of a historically oppressed group ...
but you cannot be racist ...

Racism has do do with power relations normalzing one's at that: so that white or whiteness is the invisible unit of measure by which all other things are compared: an example I often use is when Susan Smith drove her kids into the lake an acceptable explanation was it was a black man who did it ... nobody questioned her story ... that is where racism resides

It is the space where homophobia resides it is the heteronormative which defines what is LBGTQI

It is the space where sexism resides too so that the normal body is the male body ...

And on and on ... there was tremendous race baiting going on by the Clinton camp ... stop deluding yourself ... and instead get to working to taking our government back -- it doesn't matter what you are what does matter is that Clinton was not present for the vote today which stripped us all of a constitutional right ...

It's because of people like this that continue the false info (it's like telling a child you'll never be anybody because you are dumb) instead of being OPEN to new sites and people -- that some in our nation will never experience FREEDOM that Republicans claim to love so much.

I'm SHOCKED a Democrat would say this.

Frank Rich, modern day oracle.

Hillary Clinton: "Vote for me, I'm a woman -- and I'm WHITE!"

Some people won't vote for short candidates. Some people won't vote for women. Some people won't vote for Masons or Satanists. GTFO.

And Hillary's supporters claim we're starting this crap?

Here are the arguments of the two campaigns:

Obama: Believes that an overwhelming majority of Americans has moved past the bigotry of the past and is ready to move forward to build a better America together.

Clinton: While, of course, we are not disgusting bigoted racists, there are still disgusting bigoted racists out there. Therefore, you should vote for the white candidate over the black candidate, just like the awful bigoted racists, because we must be very scared of the awful bigoted racists. Don't worry though, voting the same way as the awful bigoted racists, and for the same reasons, will not make you an awful bigoted racist, because we're not awful bigoted racists. Be scared America! Be very scared!

Rendell. What can I say, except, thank you. Another typical Billary supporter shooting off their ignorant mouth and making it easier for Obama every day.

Should I be shocked? No, Clinton surrogates have been using innuendo to flame the race card and the gender card etc etc and people have bought it ... and even blamed Obama for it ... calling Obama supporters cultists (a line culled from the Republicans something repeated by Bob Dole this afternoon on the news) ...
This reminds me more of Lester Maddox, or Gov. Faibus, or George Wallace than someone in 2008 ... he is an embarrassment to the people of PA. I hope they have the sense to vote him out of office ...
Not ready? When will we be ready to vote for a black man ... huh ... in 2100 2200 ... yuck ...
Someone who can say something like that ought to never hold office ...

Rendell is correct. We have a lot of blatant racists in this area...people that still refer to African Americans with the n word...people gleefully forwarding on the Obama is a radical muslim wolf-in-sheeps clothing email.

We have racists in MO too. Doesnt make it okay to be one. I dont hear anyone in the Obama camp warning the DEM party that some men may not vote for Hillary and therefore Obama should get their vote. What bothers me so much isnt that maybe it is true, but that they love it so much.

WELL YOU ARE JUST A STUPID AS HE IS, PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE CERTAIN PEOPLE NEED TO GET OVER IT. I'M AFRICAN AMERICAN, I'm voting for Obama. Not Because of his Race but what he stands for. If there was another white candidate and they stood up for what I believe I would vote for them over barrack. Hilary is damm sure not it. America has really changed in years, I look as white people as the same black. Hell my best friend is white. Maybe that why the youth has a voice, because overall the Generation X don't have so much of this race tensions as older people. The Gov was out of line, and I’m sick of the race card being played over in over. Hilary is low, I mean low down. She will lose because of the tactics and her supporters..

Then let that segment of people do what they have to do. Shame on them, but if thats the way some of them feel, then so be it. If someone hated me that much, I wouldn't want their vote. If he should win, he'll win without the racists.

And the whites in Nebraska, Kansas, Utah and Missouri aren't conservative?

As each day passes, I'm considering voting for McCain if Obama doesn't get the nomination. Team Clinton is more of the same politics. At least McCain has some class and ethics even though he's wrong on the issues.

Fair enough, but the Clinton machine makes Macbeth's hands seem clean. Not up for months of smearing. Obama will make a big difference while provided the same programs. The Republicans in Congress won't work with Hillary anyway.

This is yet another nauseating, racially-tinged statement by one of HRC's surrogates. I hope the fair-minded people of PA reject this hideous indictment of their character, and vote on the individual meris of each candidate.
