Clinton, Obama Launch Negative Ads

Clinton Wisconsin Debates

Sen. Hillary Clinton is "scrambling" to stave off a defeat in Wisconsin, AP reports, and has launched her first negative TV ad hitting Obama for not debating her in the state.

The ad "begun Wednesday asks why Obama hasn't joined her in accepting an invitation to debate at Marquette University. 'Maybe he'd prefer to give speeches than have to answer questions,' the narrator says before claiming that only her health care plan covers everyone and only her economic plan freezes mortgage foreclosures." Watch it:

The Politico is reporting a new edge to Hillary's rhetoric:

"There is a big difference," she said. "I am in the solutions business, my opponent is in the promises business."

"We need real results, not more rhetoric. We need to get back in the solutions business. That's why I have a plan that will cover every American with health insurance, stop these foreclosures and put people back to work," she said, adding that she and edwards agreed on need for moratorium on foreclosures, while Obama doesn't.

"It's not the questions, it's the answers, and the answers get right to the heart of who is ready on day one to be the president and commander in chief of the United States."

"I have solutions to these economic challenges. The question today is does Sen. Obama? Because a plan that fails to provide universal healthcare, fails to address the housing crisis and fails to immediately start creating good paying jobs in America again, will not turn the economy around and provide the real relief that our people need," she said.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama has released a mailer in Ohio hitting Clinton on NAFTA. But the literature uses a quote that has been widely criticized as bogus.

It's not a direct quote from Clinton, but a paraphrase from a September 2006 article in Newsday -- "Clinton thinks NAFTA has been a boon to the economy, but voted against the Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement, saying it would drive jobs offshore." No evidence has surfaced that Clinton ever claimed that NAFTA was a "boon."

Captain Video I am with you.
This whole thing is too easy. When the voters see it, as they have, then that is it.
Obama: the train has left the station.
Billary: trainwreck
David Gergen: What the country needs when so many huge challenges facing the next president is....leadership and ability to bring people together, communicate etc etc (everything embodied in Barack Obama.)

BTW whos Billary ???

I love the word, "Obamakins". Repubs. should flee from this GOP nightmare. After 8 years of W., the country, the world is in shambles. W. never succeeded in anything in 60 years, plus, he had Daddy and his friends clean up after him. Remember, he started a war b/c "he wanted to." It did not matter that facts or not there, he just did as he always does, Lied. He will never grieve for the death and destruction he has caused. Why? He has no conscience.

nope! nope! and nope. Keep playing the race card, Texas is watching!

This should be being raised by the media, not me.

Why would you assume that I'm a racist because I would be concerned about the leader of the free world who claims to be a Christian, may have secret muslim sympathies, when we are at war with the radical extreme of that religion?

Your post is an adhonimen attack and against the rules.

I am not a racist, I have voted for black canidates in the past, the best friend I ever had is black, my wife is hispanic. I don't think that is racist.

I will admit, that I do have some racial prejudice from time to time. Like most people - but I admit it, you just feel deep guilt you overcompensate for about your feelings.

I always try to examine my own heart about these issues, and this is not about that. This about someone who is selling something that is not real.

What I a really really care about is truth. I see a lot of people who are falling hard for something I feel like I am one of the few who can see is just not real and may turn out very bad.

We had a prez who was in over his head because he did not know what he didn't know, I think BO may turn out to be the flip side of that coin, although I will admit on surface he seems extreemly bright and has great command of the issues.

But ask yourself, why has the pic not been shown in the media, you don't think the American public deserves to know it. Let them see if it's been doctored, or what the situation was, let him answer it. You can be sure if Hillar put on a Burka, you damn sure would have something to say about it.

Also, I read your ladies room sexist comment on another post Markus. You should take a good look at yourself, my friend!

You call Hillary's a negative ad? It's no where near what went on 4 years ago. This ad's challenging and in good taste.

Also, I find Obama's refusal to debate a bit arrogant.

And if all he's going to do is write speeches--can he get a new one? I've got the current one memorized.
05:12 AM on 02/14/2008
Candidates who are ahead always try to get around debating. Candidates who are behind beg for debates. It's the way it has ALWAYS worked.

Once again Obama attacks with a negative and, this time, a false ad. Hopefully the American people won't let him get away with throwing the first punch and then crying about getting hit back anymore. It's amazing how it's O.K. to throw everything you can at the Clintons, both amazing democrats who brought so much prosperty to all of us while Bill was in the office. They have been fighting for all Americans including Black Americans all their life.

It's so dishearting to see how nasty the Obama supporters are. Please grow up and start paying attention to the real issues facing this country. If you do you will choose Clinton because she is the one who will roll up her sleeves and do the hard work from day one.

Also Obama is a self confessed chain smoker. What responsible person in this day and age smoke when they are a parent of 2 small children. It tells me alot about his character.

I'm not willing to roll the dice. GO HILLARY!
12:14 AM on 02/14/2008
I am very fortunate to live in Ohio so I can cast my vote along with my ENTIRE FAMILY..... thats at least 20 votes Hillary Count on..
01:12 AM on 02/14/2008
I'm always happy to see as many people as possible vote in this country because turnout is usually pathetic, and 20% of the country picks the president, as has happened recently.

I'm not a smoker, but FDR smoked and drunk heavily. It didn't hurt him, neither did it hurt Abraham Lincoln. And I guess some folks believe everything they hear, since Obama is not a smoker.
01:04 AM on 02/14/2008
I could not have said it better myself. I have heard horror stories about his younger supporters tactics and their beligerence. I also think that the more educated folks are just following the pack and the next "cool" thing, when in reality they are wealthier and do not need the types of social programs Hillary would indeed make happen. I hope something dramatic happens soon because the double standard against her, and the easy pass this guy is getting, is very distrubing and disappointing to me.
03:48 AM on 02/14/2008
The people who support Obama support him, among other reasons, because he can actually bring about the social programs that help ordinary Americans. Hillary can't. More likely than not, she will lose to McCain. If she does manage to squeek through with 51%, the Republicans will immediately go into total obstruction mode. Since they will have enough votes to sustain filibusters in the Senate, what we will get is 4 years of grid lock. Then the Republicans will run on the platform that Hillary has not accomplished anything and retake the White House in the next election.

10:43 PM on 02/13/2008
The reality facing the next President is more than just inspiration and hope. There will be in front of the new appointed President a mess left by Bush. It is a huge debt national debt.
Poverty and economy is a big issue. Obama did not even have the decency to fold his arms when a national anthem was played at an event.
In an interview he has said that he had this fear of losing a important document unless he received it from his aides not before 2 mins and he went on to say that he was not a chief operating officer and that being a President did not mean delegating tasks. Folks wake up.
Do you really want Obama to be the President. I am not saying that he is bad. I just feel that Hillary has more years in politics including her White House years and she has travelled the world and knows more world leaders. She has been the first woman on the Senate Armed Forces Committee. She is far better qualified to tackle important issues on day 1. I have heard her speak over the years. And I believe she is very sincere especially on the universal national health care issue and will work to eradicate poverty and bring back a prosperous economy. I urge voters not to be blindsided and give Hillary a chance. I urge people to give her your vote.

Why Not Hillary?

We have the clearest evidence that Hillary Clinton lacks the judgment to be a good president.

In 2003, Hillary Clinton voted FOR the Iraq war authorization, without even bothering to read the Iraq national intelligence estimate. This colossal error in judgment has had a huge cost for our nation: 4000 dead Americans, and more than 10 times that many tragically wounded. These war casualties greatly surpass our losses on 9/11.

Then, there is her Senate record. She voted FOR the bankruptcy bill, FOR NAFTA/CAFTA, and FOR the Kyl-Lieberman amendment that gave Bush a green light to attack Iran.

The Iraq war vote is the clincher though. Hillary has no credibility on the war, and in fact has the same political position on the war as John McCain. It would be very hard for her to differentiate herself from him on this issue.

Hillary Clinton cannot defeat John McCain because of her Iraq War vote.

Hillary Clinton cannot defeat John McCain because of her Iraq War vote.
_______________________________________________

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh have both said they will campaign for Hillary Clinton if she runs against John McCain, who is too liberal for them. Of course a lot of this is just their usual bloviating, but there is more than just a grain of truth in it.

Hillary Clinton has voted with the neo-cons enough times, and on enough crucial issues, to make me ill.

Yes, I will hold my nose and vote for her in a contest against McCain, but I hope it doesn't come to that. I'm sick of voting for the lesser of two evils.

BREAKING: Clinton Campaign Sold Donor List to Bill Clinton Financier

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18958566

Hillary Clinton's campaign apparently sold or rented its donor list to one of the largest brokerage firms for mailing lists in the country, InfoUSA, as reported by NPR.

To everyone who has had their info compromised by this I am truly sorry.

Let's talk about Hillary's career as a corporate lawyer, uproariously defined by a case in which she argued that the rear end of a rat in a can of pork and beans was harmless since the customer did not eat the rat. Here's a link to a NY Times article that includes the following remarkable nugget:

"Besides," she wrote in her autobiography, describing her client's position, "the rodent parts which had been sterilized might be considered edible in certain parts of the world."

If Hillary is so smart and has such a "brilliant mind", why is her Senate record so remarkably undistinguished?

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years. These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.

1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.

2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.

3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.

5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.

6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.

7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.

8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.

9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.

10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.

11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.

12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.

13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.

14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.

15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.

16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.

17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11.

18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.

19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.

20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

This is not a distinguished legislative record, and is certainly not presidential material. Where is the bold, important legislation? Where is the health care legislation? Hillary has had over 12 years to work on health care. Where are the results?
10:06 PM on 02/13/2008
I don't see the point of debating anymore. We all know what they are going to say before they say it. Noone is going to go out on a limb on an issue. Everyone is going to give safe answers, so why have it. What would be better is to have both of them interact in a live Town Hall and field questions from the audience. That would be much much better
11:00 PM on 02/13/2008
Because maybe the electorate will catch on to the fact that one candidate gives only pithy sayings while the other one gives real answers. America will tire of the sayings, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Got experience?
