Clinton Wisconsin Debates

Sen. Hillary Clinton is "scrambling" to stave off a defeat in Wisconsin, AP reports, and has launched her first negative TV ad hitting Obama for not debating her in the state.

The ad "begun Wednesday asks why Obama hasn't joined her in accepting an invitation to debate at Marquette University. 'Maybe he'd prefer to give speeches than have to answer questions,' the narrator says before claiming that only her health care plan covers everyone and only her economic plan freezes mortgage foreclosures." Watch it:

The Politico is reporting a new edge to Hillary's rhetoric:

"There is a big difference," she said. "I am in the solutions business, my opponent is in the promises business."

"We need real results, not more rhetoric. We need to get back in the solutions business. That's why I have a plan that will cover every American with health insurance, stop these foreclosures and put people back to work," she said, adding that she and edwards agreed on need for moratorium on foreclosures, while Obama doesn't.

"It's not the questions, it's the answers, and the answers get right to the heart of who is ready on day one to be the president and commander in chief of the United States."

"I have solutions to these economic challenges. The question today is does Sen. Obama? Because a plan that fails to provide universal healthcare, fails to address the housing crisis and fails to immediately start creating good paying jobs in America again, will not turn the economy around and provide the real relief that our people need," she said.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama has released a mailer in Ohio hitting Clinton on NAFTA. But the literature uses a quote that has been widely criticized as bogus.

It's not a direct quote from Clinton, but a paraphrase from a September 2006 article in Newsday -- "Clinton thinks NAFTA has been a boon to the economy, but voted against the Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement, saying it would drive jobs offshore." No evidence has surfaced that Clinton ever claimed that NAFTA was a "boon."

The Obama campaign has found fair ground to challenge Senator Clinton. Can we be remotely confident that if she were President, she would substantially change trade policies and standards? I doubt it. In any of his public pronouncements, Bill Clinton never admits to any mistakes concerning NAFTA. And where will Hillary Clinton be getting advice from on trade policies?

As a Democratic Precinct Officer since 1979, I supported Bill Clinton through good times and bad times, but now he is out of office and I do not want to see the same cadre of advisers returned to the councils of authority.

We remember the 1990s with some affection because of the more humane Democratic led government and good economic times in general. But there were systemic problems that grew during that time like the giant sucking sound of jobs going out of America. History will have to judge Bill Clinton by these policies as well as by his peccadillos which did such great damage to all of us. Much as some might wish it, history will not judge Bill Clinton as a first tier President. How could Hillary possibly be a better President with Bill as her advisor? You were better than most Republicans Mr. Clinton. Now, go away.

Sorry, HuffPo, but I don't see that ad as an attack. What's Hills supposed to say in an ad, "Golly Gee, vote for me!"
Give me a break. The ATTACK ads will start very soon from the REPUBLICAN (non-aligned) groups.

Barack tell her no. You've already agreed to two more. She's behind, she's desperate, and you can't let her dictate the terms of engagement.

Obama is taking a page from the Clinton playbook -- attacking Hillary for having the same record as he has. Both Hillary and Obama voted for the Peru trade deal earlier this year -- which is the same as voting for NAFTA. Both favor unbridled free trade, despite their rhetoric to the contrary.

Bill did this earlier this year when he attacked Barak for having the same record on the war as Hillary once he reached the Senate.

It would be funny to watch, except, bottom line, it means we're going to stay in Iraq and attempt to reach unbridled free trade deals (export US unioni scale jobs) whether McCain, Hillary or Obama win.

"Bill did this earlier this year when he attacked Barak for having the same record on the war as Hillary once he reached the Senate."

- Bill lied about this. He said Barack's anti-war position was a "fairy tale". This was a lie. Voting to invade a country is not the same as voting to give already committed troops the body armor they need to survive.

Bill did not lie at all in what he said. He state a list of actual facts about Obama's position on Iraq. He said he gave the anti-war speech, he then stated that at a later date that speech was removed from his web site. He then stated that Obama said at one point he wasn't sure how he would have voted had in been in the senate at the time. He said that Obama has voted to fund the war each time the measure has come up. etc.

None of those things are lies. they are all facts. Different people can interpret those FACTS in different ways.

You may or may not agree with the conclusion that Bill came to when reviewing those FACTS, but it doesn't make them LIES.

Obama came out afterwards and said the reason he said he wasn't sure how he would have voted if he had been in the senate was because he didn't want to cause problems for the Kerry/Edwards ticket running in the election at the time. So, he admitted that he said it and gave his explanation.

You want to explain which FACT Bill stated that was actually a LIE?

Isn't there a difference between a health plan that COVERS every American and a health plan that COMPELS every American to buy health insurance on pain of fines and sanctions and whether they can afford it or not?

Hello?

There is a difference. She wants mandates. I don't.

Either go with a single payer system with no health insurance companies or with a system where we have the option to buy into a health program. No mandates.

Yes, ant that's why Obama's plan which will compel anyone who has a child to buy mandated insurance for that child on pain of fines if they don't whether they can afford it or not isn't any good.

I am worried that Hilary will now misuse debates as armageddon weapon - "If I can't have the presidency then nobody will".

We don't want Hilary putting Obama away like Snow White because we need him for the general election against McCain.

The Convention Center in Denver is all a blaze, someone comes running out " It's Hillary ! She's set the Convention Center on fire!! (long shot) we see Hillary in the windows fire all around her when hear her maniacal laughter, suddenly the roof comes down around her. (tight shot) Barack and Michelle embrace the camera pans up to the sky.

He should start running ads showing her support of the Iraq War, then breaking to her recent interview with Tim Russert where in response to his question "what did you learn from voting to authorize the Iraq war?" she responded "I learned you can't trust George W. Bush".

Then break to her voting for Kyl-Lieberman (authorizing George W. to invade Iran) just last year.

Show her for the hypocrite she is and this election will be a cakewalk.
