Clinton Wisconsin Debates

Sen. Hillary Clinton is "scrambling" to stave off a defeat in Wisconsin, AP reports, and has launched her first negative TV ad hitting Obama for not debating her in the state.

The ad "begun Wednesday asks why Obama hasn't joined her in accepting an invitation to debate at Marquette University. 'Maybe he'd prefer to give speeches than have to answer questions,' the narrator says before claiming that only her health care plan covers everyone and only her economic plan freezes mortgage foreclosures." Watch it:

The Politico is reporting a new edge to Hillary's rhetoric:

"There is a big difference," she said. "I am in the solutions business, my opponent is in the promises business."

"We need real results, not more rhetoric. We need to get back in the solutions business. That's why I have a plan that will cover every American with health insurance, stop these foreclosures and put people back to work," she said, adding that she and edwards agreed on need for moratorium on foreclosures, while Obama doesn't.

"It's not the questions, it's the answers, and the answers get right to the heart of who is ready on day one to be the president and commander in chief of the United States."

"I have solutions to these economic challenges. The question today is does Sen. Obama? Because a plan that fails to provide universal healthcare, fails to address the housing crisis and fails to immediately start creating good paying jobs in America again, will not turn the economy around and provide the real relief that our people need," she said.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama has released a mailer in Ohio hitting Clinton on NAFTA. But the literature uses a quote that has been widely criticized as bogus.

It's not a direct quote from Clinton, but a paraphrase from a September 2006 article in Newsday -- "Clinton thinks NAFTA has been a boon to the economy, but voted against the Central American-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement, saying it would drive jobs offshore." No evidence has surfaced that Clinton ever claimed that NAFTA was a "boon."

All politicians come with huge baggage. Obama, who I am supporting does too!

To the Obama over the toppers and Hillary haters how do you ignore his vote purging in ILL and most recently his admiration for bushrovian politics.

Neither wears a halo ... and it's best to remember that!!

What vote purging and what "admiration for bushrovian politics", Jack?

I don't know what you're talking about.

He's a politician, no doubt, and a damn good one to have the formidable Clinton campaign all tied up in knots. Anyone who thinks that he's not is in lala land.

2 months ago or so, all the "experts" said it was going to be Hillary vs. Giuliani for the Presidency in 2008. Sorry, not gonna happen for either one of them. One was a fear mongerer and fake hero that had shady deals and even shadier friends. The other had a pro-hawk voting record and more lobbyists than ANY other candidate. We saw St. Rudy go into a free fall that he never recovered from. And Hillary is going on the same fall. 8 straight defeats in the primaries and staff alterations were only the beginning. You knew nasty ads were going to come soon enough.

Barack Hussein Obama is not new. I've seen politicians like him in Asia, they're lots of people especially young people - the dreamers, wishful thinking people supporting likes of him. Ask any asians in this blog what they think of Obama esp. those from Phils.

Okie dokie, slug each other long, gotta get my rest, just got home from Phils. I'm volunteer for the Peacecorp assigned in phils. the most dangerous area full of Muslims - MINDANAO. Lots of "moklo" there, their slang name for Muslims, they'll separate your head from ur body if u turn ur back.

She wraps herself in the Clinton's glorious administration but she won't take credit for the disaster of NAFTA and her huge contributions from outsourcing companies. As usual she wants it both ways.

Copy/Paste much do you?
I've seen this same post word for word on every Anti-Clinton comment posted.

Sorry, but your girl blew it. Too many in this country don't like her, won't buy what she is selling, and are tired of the controversy surrounding the "Clinton" brand.

Time to look forward, not back. Not back to impeachment, NAFTA, Democrats losing congress, etc. etc. etc.

I just googled Hillary/Nafta/Carl Bernstein and learned a whole lot about this candidate. Yes, she did indeed stand up against NAFTA at the time Bill was endorsing it, but since she's claiming her time in the White House as her "experience", I'm not sure....but what I found instead is how this woman has rewritten her history to make it fit the image of "Hillary the candidate"...she's capable of redefining herself for political gain.

Maybe you should have looked at some of the other articles you googled. You would have found info like this:

The truth of the matter is that Sen. Clinton was a board member to Wal-mart for six years and that the Walton family played a huge role in her husband’s political career. For this help Arkansas Gov. (and later President) Bill Clinton assisted Wal-mart when it came to the free trade agreement known as NAFTA. In addition, Sen. Clinton’s Rose Law Firm even handled much of Wal-marts legal defense.

However the majority of liberals are unaware of Sen. Clinton's corporate past, including having been a corporate lawyer. These facts are often overlooked because it is inconvenient for liberals to realize that she has been part of ‘the system.’

I was personally in opposition to NAFTA back then. I can personally recall Hillary Clinton promoting NAFTA for Bill all over the mainstream media, how it would help raise living standards in Mexico and stop illegal immigraiton. It would benefit the US too. ALL LIES!

After NAFTA passed, Billary bailed out the New York and Mexican banks for more than $50 billion of taxpayers money. In 1996 Billary cut the capital gains tax rate to 15% so that the people that buy their wealth pay a lower rate than the working class that creates the wealth. Next came the Telecommunications Act of 1996 which helped Murdoch, you know the right winger that held fund raisers for her presidential bid.

Just say NO to Billary!

I'm glad to see Hillary out with some negative advertising. She's played the high road from day one, even while taking attacks from the Obama camp and it hasn't served her well.

Unfortunately, I think this will be too little too late. She should have been hitting him hard during the debates, but she chose not to.

The Clintons already looking a little shady and they are not even in the White House yet.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18958566

Last year, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton took the unusual step of renting out some of her lists. The transaction once again highlights the Clintons' connections to a businessman who now faces questions from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Reports from Clinton's campaign show that on Dec. 3, it collected payment for renting out three mailing lists, the sale of which netted them $8,225.

It was an unusual transaction, according to Roger Craver, a liberal guru of the political direct-mail industry.

and

Info U.S.A.'s CEO is Vinod Gupta, a close ally of both Clintons. Gupta's empire also includes the Opinion Research Corporation, which conducts the political polling for the television network CNN.

Vin Gupta has a long history of giving and raising campaign money for the Clintons, and gave $1 million for the 2000 Millennium Celebration, a New Year's Party thrown by the Clintons.

I know HuffPo want to keep things nice and dramatic, but none of this is particularly nasty...or unfair...despite the sensational headline.

It's not surprising tht she's want to bebate and that he'd refuse...wise strategy on both sides. And there's no reason she shouldn't try to make a little hay out of it. The ad's a little snarky, maybe, but nasty?

Just like there's no reason Obama shouldn't question her position on NAFTA. She's running on the Clinton legacy, which is fine and good. But she gets it all, then, including NAFTA which was Bill's biggest mistake as president. It's certainly not unfair to point that out.

I think NAFTA in combination with the repeal of Glass-Steagall was his biggest mistake.

Together, the actions attacked the middle class on both the income and expense side of their financal statements.

It doesn't surprise me at all that Obama would use false statements in an ad against Hillary. He has consistently misled the public about his voting record on the war, his receipt of contributions from corporations, his use of the race card (for which he was busted by Tim Russert right on TV), and many other issues. When is the American public going to realize that this emperor most certainly has no clothes.

Not sure what you're getting at. It's Hillary Clinton that voted FOR both the Iraq War and the Kyl-Lieberman amendment that gives Bush the green light to start another war with Iran.

Meanwhile, Obama spoke courageously against the Iraq War authorization bill AT THE TIME (2003), and said AT THE TIME that if he were in the Senate he would certainly vote against it.

It's also worth remembering that there's no "false statement" here either. The "boon" thing actually does reflect what Lobbyist-Woman said.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:27 PM on 02/13/2008

Wow, you were wrong about all three.

Voting record on war-- funding the troops so they don't DIE in the desert isn't the same as voting to send them there

Contributions from corporations-- the old John Edwards line, even though Obama only takes contributions from employees of corporations

Race card-- a memo pointing out the bad things that the Clinton campaing was saying, horror of horrors!

It is sad the extent to which so many Obama supporters cannot face the truth about Obama and his record. Look up his record regarding contributions --

www.opensecrets.org/pres08/select.asp?Ind=F03

Look up his record on the war: www.huliq.com/47109/meet-press-hillary-examines-sen-obama-iraq

Watch how Obama supports Rumsfeld and other Bush cabinet appointees:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxPA37n0oOU

Watch as Tim Russert busts Obama about his press secretary's four pages regarding playing the race card:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXXjWy-OztQ&feature=related

I know you'd like to believe that Obama is perfect; well no one is. And, the biggest problem I see with him is the difference between what he pretends to be, and what he truly is. The biggest problem I see with many of his supporters is that they DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM, and they will attack anyone who wishes to discuss his record. Any serious exploration of his background or record interferes too much with their hopes and dreams.

Wait a minute, the primary in Texas is not until March; she can't be possibly camping out there for that long, come on. Instead of airing silly ads from Texas, she needs to go to Wisconsin and talk to the voters face to face, as Obama is doing. Especially since she claims to have superior ideas for voters in Wisconsin, a debate is not exactly the right format to relay her message.

Hillary, it is all right to leave Texas for a day, don't be afraid to face voters.

"iPolitics" below has direct quotes from Clinton on NAFTA they could have used instead. Or just stay positive. It's why people like Obama's campaign. Meanwhile, Hillary and her surrogates are sounding more and more desperate.

Voting for Hillary is like buying a used car from a seasoned dealer. At one time it was a very popular model, a familiar brand. A good bit of mileage, which accounts for the "EXPERIENCED!" etched boldly in soap on the dash. It comes with a fresh paint job and shiny hub caps, a fancy warranty sticker and a slick sales pitch; and when you start her up, the momentary cackle of the starter is followed by a smooth and steady drone. "Ready on day one!", proclaims the grinning salesman as you empty your wallet and drive her out of the lot. But when the engine dies a couple days later, you then check the warranty and realize you're screwed...it was exactly as the salesman promised, good for only one day.

I see what you mean. But voting for Obama is like buying a brand new Mini Cooper from an up scale dealership for a family of eight. Yes it comes in black has a stylish leather interior, it is fast, loaded and full of promise, but it is has little utility for this family. Sure we all have that fantasy car that is sleek and full of HP and zoom in our heads but what we really need is a good reliable broken-in station wagon. BUYER BEWARE.
