Mccain Torture

Thinkprogress.org:

Today, the Senate brought the Intelligence Authorization Bill to the floor, containing a provision from Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) that establishes one interrogation standard, requiring the intelligence community to abide by the same standards as articulated in the Army Field Manual and banning waterboarding.

Just hours ago, the Senate voted in favor of the bill, 51-45.

Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), a former prisoner of war, has spoken strongly in favor of implementing the Army Field Manual standard. When confronted today with the decision of whether to stick with his conscience or cave to the right wing, McCain chose to ditch his principles and instead vote to preserve waterboarding:

Mr. McCain, a former prisoner of war, has consistently voiced opposition to waterboarding and other methods that critics say is a form torture. But the Republicans, confident of a White House veto, did not mount the challenge. Mr. McCain voted "no" on Wednesday afternoon.

:
How Sad.

To understand, read up on the Stockholm syndrome -- a psychological response sometimes seen in an abducted hostage, in which the hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the danger (or at least risk) in which the hostage has been placed.

Stockholm syndrome is also sometimes discussed in reference to other situations with similar tensions, such as battered person syndrome, rape cases, child abuse cases and bride kidnapping.

The syndrome is named after the Norrmalmstorg robbery of Kreditbanken at Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm, Sweden, in which the bank robbers held bank employees hostage from August 23 to August 28 in 1973. In this case, the victims became emotionally attached to their victimizers, and even defended their captors after they were freed from their six-day ordeal.

The term Stockholm Syndrome was coined by the criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police during the robbery, and referred to the syndrome in a news broadcast.

Want a President with that damage?

Right on.

But I find myself asking to whom McCain has succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome: the North Vietnamese, Bush, the Repukes, or simply a combination of the above?

Maybe that growth on his cheek is taking over his mind.

Perhaps its a miniature Karl Rove that was implanted when he was sleeping.

I think this man is senile. McCain was against Bush tax cuts for the rich but now he is; he was against torture but now he is...this is the same man who claims that his experience in captivity qualifies him to be a sensible commander in chief?
What a joke!!!

Insane McCain - blocked all attempts to bring lost POW's out of Vietnam. Took Charles Keating money as a bribe. And now votes for torture. He and W would make perfect cell mates.
