Clinton Superdelegates

Boston Globe's Political Intelligence:

Hillary Clinton will take the Democratic nomination even if she does not win the popular vote, but persuades enough superdelegates to vote for her at the convention, her campaign advisers say.

The New York senator, who lost three primaries Tuesday night, now lags slightly behind her rival, Illinois Senator Barack Obama, in the delegate count. She is even further behind in "pledged'' delegates, those assigned by virtue of primaries and caucuses.

But Clinton will not concede the race to Obama if he wins a greater number of pledged delegates by the end of the primary season, and will count on the 796 elected officials and party bigwigs to put her over the top, if necessary, said Clinton's communications director, Howard Wolfson.

HUGE mistake.

What in the hell are her advisors thinking? Who will vote for her if she manages to wrangle the nomination this way?

Bad, bad, bad, bad idea....As a Hillary supporter, I hope this report is erroneous. If it isn't, I hope Hillary and her advisors reconsider this unbelievably STUPID move.

All it will accomplish is to cement Hillary-hatred and tarnish the Clinton legacy even more.

"HILLARY WILL NOT DESTROY OUR PARTY and SHE WILL NOT BE PRESIDENT THIS WAY!!!"

I think most of the people contributing to this blog took their stupid pills this morning. My god, get a grip!

I can't understand how I ever supported Hillary Clinton. Why can't her supporters see through the lies and deceit? The rovean tactics, the swiftboating of Obama's ideals? He may not be tested and no one is until they've actually been in the Oval office but do we really want more of the same with Mrs. Clinton? Do we really want a president that proudly states that she'll continue taking lobby dollars? A president that twist the words of her competitor and twists the laws of the land to win at all cost? I have no doubt she would be a good president but the change that this nation is hungry for isn't just kicking GWB out of office, that will happen regardless. The change that we so desperately need is fundamental. Mrs. Clinton most certainly doesn't represent that change. For those interested in specificity, real Barack Obama's blueprint for change and review the section on ethics and government reform. He proposes a technology-driven road to real transparency in government. Wouldn't you like to know what your lawmakers are up to each day? Where they get there money from and how it influences their vote and affects your day to day life? No? Then vote for Hillary. Vote for good democratic policy wrapped in the same ol' same ol' DC bull shit. If you believe the fundamental change at the center of Barack Obama's campaign is attainable then give yourself the authority to hope and live that change.

Does anybody need any more proof that Hillary Clinton does not give a fuck about you?

Just think about the personality required to make a statement like this in public, fully
knowing what it means come convention time.
Simply Classless.

I will say it again, this woman is the mirror image of George Bush. Once you get past the false differences regarding party affiliation, its as plain as day. If I had to name 1 politician in America who is most like George Bush, its not even close
its(Hillary Clinton)

1) Both her and Bush were given legitimacy in public life based on their last name.

2) Both look at the white house as a tool for their own ends, instead of the most sacred responsibility you can be given in America.

3) Both have no problem doing totally unethical things to win elections where they don't have the popular vote.

4) Both will have destroyed their own party for their own gain. First Bush destroys a totally republican controlled government to make him and his friends richer. Then Hillary comes along and destroys her own party simply because she cant get her way. These two families are the exact same animal.

5) Both families have devised shady ways to break laws regarding term limits, by perpetually keeping a member of their family in the white house. Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton?
Just wait until Jeb Bush is Mccain's VP.
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!

Again I ask, Is there anybody who still doesn't understand why people hate Hillary?

Well here we go people, Get ready for war.

I have been making bets with some friends as to which constituency leaves the Democratic party for the next 40 years. I actually know how the answers but I'm not gonna say here.

Isn't life ironic?
Just when you think you are on top, you are more ripe to fall than ever.
The republican party is going to pick up an incredible amount of votes from people they never thought they would.

Thanks Hillary

Hillary doesn't care about the Country, or the Democratic Party. Its about her -- power for the sake of power.

How do voters in Ohio and Texas feel about blind ambition? Oh, I forgot, they voted for George Bush. Nevermind.

Hillary, just another chapter in the Bush/Clinton/Bush power grab.

Chin up...OBAMA will win. The "people" are not stupid. Have faith and keep fighting.

If this happens let's make the Democratic Convention rival the '68 Chicago convention.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:06 PM on 02/14/2008

I'm not getting why this is a big deal. All that is being said is that she won't conceed if he is ahead. If he locks up the nomination by getting the required amount of delagates BEFORE the convention(which is the real way to win) she will bow out. If indeed the whole country (of eligible voters) had been behind Obama he would already have the nomination. If indeed they AREN'T then both sides have to keep pressing. To suggest that she should NOT press on is what is really un-democratic.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:59 PM on 02/14/2008

You make a reasonable argument but that is not what she wants to do, the memo's are out. They expect to loose the pledged delegate count and then use the superdelegates to reverse that outcome. If you think that will win the white house then we will just have to disagree.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:06 PM on 02/14/2008

If they are close (say within 100 delagates) then that is a fair position for her to take. The race isnt over until someone reaches 50% +1. Now if she comes in 200 delagates down you will see her smile and bow out. But what this article seems to suggest is that if she is 600 delagates behind she will pull a rabbit out of a hat and get ALL the supers to over ride them. That is simply not the case. And all the Clinton camp said was if they are behind, they will try to bridge a gap. If Senator Obama ends up a slight margin behind, I would equally expect him to do the same.

That is NOT what her campaign stated.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:59 PM on 02/14/2008

If she does this, I SWEAR, I will stay home next November, and so will a lot of other people. Then, McCain will win the election. She REALLY needs to get a grip.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:58 PM on 02/14/2008

If the Democratic Party leaders are stupid enough to let her do this, then it's time for a new party. If she wins the nomination, fine. But if she steals the nomination, I will not campaign for her or contribute to her campaign. And I will not campaign for or contribute to the campaigns of any local "party insiders" who collude in the theft.

If this were true I would switch my support to Sen. Obama. But after reading every news article on the subject, Mr. Wolfson never actually said it.

In the original story in the Feb 13, Boston Globe, Susan Milligan made these claims:

1-"Hillary Clinton will take the Democratic nomination even if she does not win the popular vote, her campaign advisers say."
2-"Clinton will not concede the race to Obama , said Howard Wolfson."

I read the actual quotes of Mr. Wolfson in that article. He NEVER says either one.

Ok I found it in the Boston Globes blog page.
This is a big deal!! It actually does say that if neither candidate has the required number of delegates to win the nomination outright, then the Super Delegates will "have" to decide the nomination.

I say that if the Super Delegates do not overwhemlmingly support WHICHEVER candidate is ahead in the popular votes and state delegates, then this is a VERY BIG DEAL!!

CAN WE SAY ELECTION 2000!!!
AFTER THE REPUBLICANS STOLE THE ELECTION I SWORE THAT WOULD NEVER, EVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!

The only honorable and ethical thing to do is to follow the will of the people.
We are Democrats DAMN IT!!!
If Senator Hillary Clinton is that person then I will come to the polls and vote for her. If it is Senator Barack Obama, I will skip to the polls and vote for him!

If anybody thinks that the millions of Democrats coming out in the snow and ice, passionate about their candidate is going to let the DLC upend the will of THE PEOPLE!!!
Then you will NOT HAVE A PARTY ANYMORE!!

HAVE YOU FREAKING LOST YOUR MINDS??

I seem to remember Hillary wanting to change the electoral college system after the 2000 debacle. She seemed to value the popular vote back then. I guess she changed her mind! How nice for her.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:45 PM on 02/14/2008

She may not lose the popular vote. She may, but why is it so unreasonable to wait and see. It IS still a close race, let them finish the darn thing.

From sad to OUTRAGED! I didn't plan on going to the convention but I just changed my mind. We will not let you rip apart our party Hillary!!!!!!
