Prominent Black Leader Pulls Support From Clinton As Superdelegate

Representative John Lewis, an elder statesman from the civil rights era and one of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's most prominent black supporters, said Thursday night that he planned to cast his vote as a superdelegate for Senator Barack Obama in hopes of preventing a fight at the Democratic convention.

"In recent days, there is a sense of movement and a sense of spirit," said Mr. Lewis, a Georgia Democrat who endorsed Mrs. Clinton last fall. "Something is happening in America and people are prepared and ready to make that great leap."

Sen. McCain will lose this election no matter who runs against him. Why? Because all those "Security minded Soccor Moms" who voted for Dubya in the past now have kids that are old enough to go in the Service and get sent to Iraq.

Most of you Obama bloggers all sound like the typical young americans who always yell America first and go to all types of events and yell "USA USA.. All The Way"
Remember, the US is part of the global economy and has to get along with the rest of us... your dollar is falling at a rapid rate, your political system is crumbling, your civil rights are being eroded day after day and yet you sit there and throw stones at people who comment on your election policies as if you are isolated and alone in the world which you soon might be if you continue on this same course.

I don't believe that you have categorized Obama supporters correctly. Most Obama supporters are highly educated, and not all are young, naive or overtly nationalistic. Many of us, actually understand the larger issues at stake, and for this very reason support Obama and not Clinton. I for instance, have lived on 4 continents, and understand the larger geo-political, as well as the domestic problems, and agree with nearly all Obama's positions.

just a neighbourly view from up north. I've watched the Dem nomination race since last year. And early was hopefull that a real policy shift was emerging, but that sames to have faded.

Cable news is somewhere between Entertainment Tonighht and SportCentre. Living in the most heavily concentrated media market in N. America, the one place that needs change is our newsrooms. More disappointing though is the tone and tenor of discussion on the blogosphere.

I'm a political junkie, but this is turning me off.

Moreso it's leaving me without hope. Your country is at war on two fronts, your economy in a recession, and instead of any real talk of public policy and candidates's plans for America, the discussion here and elsewhere strays to vile and vindictive.

Why do I care, our economies are closely linked, we don't have the mortgage crisi, but our manufatcuring and forest sectors are taking a beating, while we remain your largest supplier of oil.

We have continued pressure form American health corporations to privatize our system, while American seniors travel here for cheap prescription drugs. While not in Iraq, we are one of the few countries supplying forces to the NATO mission in Afgahanistan.

Our election will probably occur before yours in November. Front and centre will be pulling out of Afghanistan, with many Canadian believing this war is futile.

The people of Pakistan will also vote before your election, and hopefully people understand why its outcome is support.

Whether it's domestic or foreign policy, I hope a real conversation starts soon. Look past the rhetoric and cheapshots, do you agree on an angenda for your country,if so what is it.

How do you hold politicians responsible if you never force them to discuss the real issues.

As a global citizen this make me far from hopeful, how about less demagoguery and more debate.

People in Canada really shouldn't put in their two cents on U.S. politics. Your parliamentary system is so different from ours, you can't possibly understand the extent to which the media makes this primary process a circus, in order to make money through ratings, and selling crap that Americans don't need in the ad breaks. Don't expect political maturity in a country where nearly everybody is self medicated, and television has spoon fed and brainwashed the corporate slave majority.

Canadians should resit being sanctimonious, and should identify themselves as Canadians. Otherwise, they live in a real democracy, let them have their say.

If people from Canada shouldn't really put their 2 cents on U.S. Politics, then the U.S. has no business putting their 2 cents in on everyone else in the world's business. Funny how this only works one way.
There is a good chance we will also have an election this spring, but once it's called, in 6 weeks it's all over!
Canadians can see the extent the media makes it a circus. All of the major news networks do broadcast outside of the U.S. you know. Yes, CNN, FOXNews, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNBC etc. all send their signal out for the world to see the kind of circus that is run in the U.S. on a daily basis.

Look I'm not a Hillary Hater-But I;m against any canidate who says a state or thier votes don't count. It was befor Ohio really counted to her. Today she comes out and say's Ohio isn't a fire wall state so if she lose's it------that it's ok. She know claims Texas is the state that counts. I believe every vote, and every state counts. I don't want another Gore disaster, do you? Not once have I heard Oboma say to a State "It doesn't count, or it isn't a fire wall State". Everyone should count! That's what people are turning out in record numbers to Say! It's time Mrs. Clinton hears this, and stop saying this. Maybse than we'll listen to her idea's more---maybe than those Clinton haters will stop and listen. But she keeps makeing the same mistakes like this one. She simply doesn't understand what's happening across america. When she does, maybe she will CHANGE, with the rest of us. I only wish her the best. I know she means well for America. She's just the wrong person at this time to lead this Country.

All this reminds me of the L.A. Lakers during their "dynasty" days. So many people across the nation jumped on their bandwagon because people like to root for the overdog.
Counting Hillary out at this point is premature, but then this is HuffPo and they've been doing that from the start.

With 80-90% African American voters opting for Obama, and the media are silent on the racist issue!!! If 80-90$ of female voters opted for Clinton, the press would go crazy on the gender issue. Is this a double standard? This should be pointed out to the media or better still to female voters.

When 80-90% of black voters vote for a white candidate -- as we have for the past 50 or so years because we've had little choice -- then what do you call that?

And that's after FINALLY getting the right to vote.

Some things are completely justified.

Hillary's campaign appeals to the primary libidinal impulses of "fear and be afraid." Obama's campaign appeals to the internalized moral conscience of hope and endless possibilities within the American psychic-polity. The choice is yours.

Latest polls show that Obama "enjoys" the overwhelming support of Repubs.

Wonder why.

McCain is already starting to move his stuff into the White House.

McCain (read NRA, GOP) is going to destroy this man by November.

Do you really believe that there are more Republicans than Democrats in the U.S.??

Even Sen. Clinton's supporters will be voting for Sen. Obama if he is the nominee. Additionally, an overwhelming number of Independents will continue to gravitate to him. They will fly away from Sen. McCain due to his recent and surprising FLIP-FLOP on his stand regarding torture and further erosion of Civil Liberties, along with the 100 year war.

seems pretty obvious that John Lewis got a late night call from Bill Clinton --
That likely will not change the result - but the CLinton campaign needs time to spin this --

I think they make it look worsen when they drag this stuff out

My guess: They will say Lewis really endorses and supports Hillary and thinks she will be the better prez BUT as his district went 3 to 1 for Obama he has to cast his superdelegate vote for Obama

bottom line - not good news for Hillary any way you look at it

It is deplorable that some of these bloggers cannot disagree without being totally disagreeable. SEAN saying "stick a fork in her" tells us a whole lot about him. And TOM saying, "It is done" meaning the fork. You can't get much lower than these two guys.

That said and relegated to where it belongs, I would like to clear up Senator Clinton's position on the war which the hate mongers are characterizing as a vote for the war, a position that Obama also takes. Obama DID NOT have to face the delema that members of the Senate did, because he wasn't there. Here are the exact words of Senator Clinton on her vote:

Floor Speech October 10, 2002
"Today we are asked to give the President of the United States the authority to use force in Iraq should efforts to dismantle Saddam Hussein's chemical and biological weapons and his nuclear program A vote for it is not a vote to rush into war; it is a vote that puts awesome responsibility in the hands of our President and we say to him-use these powers wisely and as a last resort."

I realize the Hillary haters will always be Hillary haters, but perhaps these words will give pause in their thinking. I really posted these words of explanation for her vote especially for Hillary supporters, because they clearly exonerate her from the accusation that she voted for the war.

I really hope you don't think that everyone who thinks Obama is the better candidate is a Hillary hater. That is like the Republican's saying everyone whose against the war is not a patriot .It's simply a foolish statement ! We have oppinions and most of us base them on the candidates record and if we think Hillary who stated in the debates that we can't get out of Iraq before 2013 isn't the candidate to get us out of this war then that is fact not based on hate !If we think Hillary is too connected to Corporate America that is fact its not based on hate ! If we think that her husband as president brought us the disasterous NAFTA that has caused many people to lose jobs ,that is fact ,not based on hate .If we think Hillary has voted way too many times towards the right ,that is based on fact not on hate.
Please get the facts straight !
