Earlier this month, speaking at Tulane University, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said this about the attacks coming his way from Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY:

"You challenge the status quo and suddenly the claws come out," Obama said.

The CLAWS come out? Really?

copy/pasted from the ABC comment box...

Wait a second. Code words work both ways. It's true that Obama's words play into HRC's moody swings. But her words play into racial stereotypes too although VERY well coded. She (and Bill) always refer to his words as "cheap" and she says she will WORK for change and really emphasizes work. Does this mean O will NOT work for change but just talk about it? Obviously not, but the Clinton code is about race, that is, it says "Lazy (Black) Man Who Talks a Good Game Ain't Gonna Get Nothin' Done" and quite frankly it's offensive. Posted by: Joe Haliewa

I blame Imus.

Women, black, brown or white recognize the "Obama" type. He is the guy in the empty suit and wingtips who gets hired into the company and thinks he has all the answers. He smiles and talks nice and then the woman trains him to take over her job (usually for more $$) or he becomes her boss although he knows little or nothing about the operation. He is all jive. Borack Hussain Obama uses "code" words to belittle Senator Clinton.

Who is listening to a person who belittles another
person by deliberately not addressing them by their
correct name?

You chose a name like Tsunami, Japanese for tidal wave.
I think that the name Okubyo suits you much better. It
means coward.

That you decry gender disparagement but immediately follow your words of protest with a racially disparaging remark reveals you to be bereft of any high ground, moral or otherwise. That you choose to call him by a deliberately misspelled name indicates you also are bereft of the maturity of even a 10-year old.

How difficult and frustrating it must be for you to try to comprehend and navigate through this world.

on a thread about sexism, I am accused of being passive-aggressive by someone who addresses other posters as "dear" and "darlin'"

Right, and anyone who accuses Clinton of racism is a sexist, and anyone who accuses sexists of Obamaism is a Clintonist.

The real truth is that anyone who accuses Democrats of the common sense to recognize their real opponent is an idiot.

I support Barack, but this stupidity from the supporters of BOTH CANDIDATES has got to stop. A few months ago, Democrats were much happier with our choice of candidates than the Republicans were with theirs. Now the polls show that despite the Ann Coulter wingnut faction that thinks McCain is more liberal than Hillary, fewer Democrats support either Barack or Hillary than Republicans support John McCain.

We've come to this point where we're about to give the Republicans the keys to the White House for ANOTHER 4-8 years because we're too juvenile to stop this cannibalistic infighting bullshit. SO LET'S GROW UP AND CUT IT OUT!

Tell that to Obama and his passive aggressive attacks. I just heard his speech, saying negative attacks are no good. bla bla.

All I've seen here is negative attacks on the Clinton's. It's 4 to 1 Obama on here.

These are the people that are for a NEW kind of politics?! They are trippin' hard!

If other people want to fight to be united, that's fine. But what I've read here on huffpost and seen on msnbc has made me realize that I'm not fighting for the same thing as these people. I care about economic justice, and I know it takes a fight. I care about working people, not the wine and cheese crowd being able to pontifficate from their ivory towers.

It's a long time until November, so my mind may change - but I don't see me voting for Obama right now.

We survived Bush, we can survive Mccain. I know one thing, If Hillary ends up coming back...the majority of the cult on here won't vote for her!

So there it is.

Obama is buying delegates and is paying bloggers!! It is a good thing that he is collecting lots of money. He will have his nomination paid for in no time. Then McCain can start mopping him up.

It's understandable that people whose lives revolve around reporting and commenting on the news would think this is a big deal.

For the other 99.9% it's a bunch of meaningless b.s.

I don't think 99.9% of the people support Obama. I heard it live, and before they said anything, I saw what he was trying to do. Basically, he was saying she is a cold aggressive, moody, bitch. That is sexist! It is also passive aggressive.

Everything he does is passive aggressive, and that is what kind of leader he will be.

Steve,

If you know what passive aggressive is than you should also be familiar with projection. So look in the mirror, get a grip, and cut this fucking internecine bullshit out.

By using proxies to bring up these false allegations Clinton is setting women back 20 years. Now when women bring forth real sexism charges they will be treated with a chagrin instead of compassion.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new to Clinton:

1) Clinton allowed her husband to publicly humiliate her with his affair with an intern without consequence.

2) She consistently worked to destroy the credibility and lives of the women who brought forth allegations of sexual abuse against her husband.

3) She allowed her husband to steal her campaign from her, and destroy her chances of being president. Instead of running on her own merit, she made it appear that it was impossible to become a female president without a former president as her husband.

She worked to destroy? What??? Name something with real proof, not Dick Morris or the American Spectator.

Your last comment proves YOUR sexisim. She said she's standing there. She can handle herself just fine. It's you and many in the media that have that cynical and sexist veiw.

This sounds like the same bullshit we her from Bush on Iraq. If they shoot them in the back of the head it's sectarian violence. If they shoot them in the front of the head it's crime.

So I guess if Obama says the claws are coming out he's referring to a woman. If he says the fangs are coming out is that referring to a man? What a bunch of bullshit.

Cut it out. Claws is sexist? I thought PETA would say something, but sexist?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:52 AM on 02/17/2008

SEXIST, YES!

Following the last debate, there was some mention of the fact that Obama helped Hillary out of her chair. (I also saw him help her INTO her seat.) Even that was turned into a positive by the media.

I didn't hear anyone say the act was sexist or inappropriate. IT WAS!

It was calculated and intended to convey that Hillary is of the weaker sex and, therefore, needs to have a big, strong man help her get in and out of a chair.

No one called him on it, yet the Clintons were accused of playing the race card for weeks.

Some will argue that he was just being a gentleman - chivalrous - but it was inappropriate in this scenario - and in all scenarios, as far as I am concerned. An able-bodied woman does not need help from a man when sitting down or standing up! In the Senate, does Senator Obama rush around and help his female colleagues whenever they sit down or stand up?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:25 AM on 02/17/2008

C'mon, pulling her chair back is sexist? Have you seen her ass? Obama should have brought a crane!

have another sip of kookaid. Hillary is not a little old lady. I am confident if they put the whole thing on a brawl, she'd whip his little beta-male butt! I'd kind of like to see that.

Even Edwards won't endorse him because he thinks he's a big sissie. He was around him all the time, so I think he would know. I think Rezko must have been his "kneecapper."

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:32 PM on 02/17/2008

Really good point lindalee. When I saw that, I did not really think of it that way. It was like oh, their going to be nice now. But your right, that was the subliminal msg he wanted to send.

Obama must have some really smart political operatives working for him. His campaign and his words of attack are so well concealed, he comes out smelling like a rose, and people don't even realize what they just saw. You are 100% correct, that was sexist! And I'm sure it was planned and intended to convey the msg of the strong man, just like you said. Very good observation.

Obama is such a phony. At any chance he gets, he tries to put down Hillary. Meanwhile, at home I am sure he is whipped by that bulldog wife of his. Talk about scary. She scares me.

oh, no man, she's good people! I saw her on Larry King, she's friends with both Opera AND Gail! She must be a good lady. And she has "corporate" experience. She works with the sick for a NPO. But I guess they do make money some how, i dunno. But I think she tells the poor people when it's time go and drives them to a nice part of town. She's like the black mother thresa of chitown or something.

If if Opera says its good, its good. I read all the books in her book club, too! I mean cmon, she brought us Dr. Phil!

.........and the "you are likable enough, Hillary" comment in one of the debates was condescending. He is a passive-aggressive for sure!

Like I said before, my governor Janet Napolitano has been in involved in some tough political battles, but I don't remember her camp pulling out any of this "women vs. men" drama even once in the five years I've lived in AZ. Either Obama and Edwards are the most sexist people to ever walk the face of the earth, or Sen. Clinton is too sensitive about these perceived slights.

I thought the analyses of all these hidden racial subtexts in Bill Clinton's comments was over the top in S.C. and applauded Obama for issuing a public statement defending the Clintons from that kind of criticism. It would seem appropriate for Sen. Clinton to come out and make a similar public statement so that we can all get back to focusing on the issues.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:21 AM on 02/17/2008

Bill screwed up, said lots of racially inappropriate things in SC and they lost the Black vote. So, the Clinton campaign is desperate. They are grasping at anything and everything, regardless of how ridiculous it is, to claim that Obama is guilty of the same.

They need to cut it out, it just makes Hillary look silly and desperate. It's not helping.

Goes with arrogance.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:09 AM on 02/17/2008

I so agree. From day one, I have been noticing how arrogant this guy is. Even without half the knowledge of Hillary on just about any topic in the debate, he still managed to come off as arrogant and smug. I am telling this guy reminds me so much of George W. Bush. This is what it so frightening.

ALl his comments and mannerisms have revealed him to be sexist as well as toward Hillary, and I am sure other women.

I think the media (Jake Tapper of ABC in this case) is sexist and racist, and read everything in those terms.

A nonsexist person doesn't see the word "periodically" and think menstrual cycle.

Our media culture is really turning to garbage. These are the same folks who brought us the president who was "fun to have a beer with" in 2000. How many thousands have died due to their negligence?
