Clinton Weeps

The Swamp:

Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton's voice filled with emotion today as she listened to the story of a mother and young daughter who said they were being forced from their home due to a skyrocketing adjustable mortgage.

Appearing at a rally and question and answer session inside the Brat Shop, a restaurant located off Interstate 94, the main north-south route between Chicago and Milwaukee, Clinton asked local officials if they could provide any help to the woman.

I don't care about Clinton crying over someone asking her how she is surviving or her professor reminiscing about her in bell-bottoms. Whatever. BUT she's going down a dangerous road when she begins to cry about politics because it raises the question: Why are some issues are tear-worthy, Hillary, and why are others not? Are the deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq tear-worthy? How about the crisis in Darfur? What about Afghanistan? Katrina? Is the denial of Morning-After pills to rape victims under The Freedom of Religion In The Workplace Act (which you signed) tear-worthy? If not, then WHY not? Sorry to ask you these tough questions, but you've just brought it on.

How could any one fall for this? And if, by any stretch of the imagination it was sincere, what the heck? How will she handle the real rough stuff in office? Cry..... GO HOME HILLARY! (where ever that really is, IL, NY, or AR)

Here we go again another Clinton bawling session. She needs to cry herself back to Arkansas to the Clinton library and release all the information that hasn't been released from Bill's presidency.

The Huffington Post's greatest hits - Hillary cries. The trash just keeps on coming.

Arianna Huffington is Madame Lafrage. Stitch by stitch she's knitting the revolution. She owns her own guillotine . And it's waiting for you!

3960 Dead US Troopers in Iraq & and the additional 28770 maimed and injured US Troopers.

Not 1 tear. OK maybe people dont care because their not my family or friends... But then what about the cost to the american taxpayer and their families?

Mocking the sincerity of HRC's tears drives votes to her Hillaryship.
But the Tribune Corp & its papers are driving voters away from HRC with their clumsy, putrid writing.
The Tribune blog makes it a wash. A new publisher might bring Tribune papers up from the 10th tier to the 3rd tier by a wholesale firing campaign & closing the 15th tier papers in 1 paper towns before he drowns in red ink.

I can't find a clip for this one anywhere.

If it's at all like the past hysterical bawling jags she's had, I suspect that once again, tears merely welled up in her eyes.

The hyperbole? Is ridiculous.

What a sin to express emotions about something tragic.

Here we go again.

It would be commendable if she were crying about the thousands of lives lost in a war she voted for, but her emotional breakdown is basically sympathy for herself because she losing the race.

Playing the victim card and seeking the sympathy vote, since it worked in NH, is simply a disgraceful act of opportunistic pandering.
03:17 PM on 02/17/2008
Wow,
she will go to Any lengths to win some votes!
Why didn`t she cry when she found out about Monica
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Disgusting! Feigned emotion from persons who systematically prevent real solutions; don't tell me we must understand this, this is overt mockery.

And, btw, up to now, I thought melodramatic shows of such proportions were reserved for the dictators of North Corea. Only there, it is the people who must feign emotion for their beloved leader. Well, think about it and you'll get some idea what's next in store for us.

Just more evidence of the desperation of HuffPost and the Obama supporters to bash Hillary any way they can. It is so pathetic it has become comical.

This is the 4th time in less than 2 months she has had a curiously timed "emotional moment" on camera. If you can point us to evidence of this being a common occurrence for Hillary, to get all choked up in public, then you have a point. Personally, I can't ever remember it happening before this election, even during the Lewinski ordeal. I agree that we shouldn't be mean about it and lash out viciously at her; but is it better to be naïve, and pretend she would never do something like this to win the presidency?

Local newspapers telling about the event notice nothing except the mother and daughter's hard conditions, and according to the article Hillary Clinton was moved, not crying. But I guess you don't care and will damn her whatever she does.

Emotional Blackmail, Hillary The Sufferer!

The martyr who believes they’ve done everything for others and suffered because of it and won’t hesitate to remind them so they will feel sorry for them!

Implemented with predictable timing, once again!

All the deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan, all the malicious, purposeful neglect of the people of NO after Katrina...not a sign of moisture.. but not this manipulative BS...both Clintons are low life creatures that pollute the public space... and where are their income tax statement, where are the donor lists for the Clinton Library and Foundation...two extremely sleazy, self-focused people... did you hear that 80 voting districts in NYC with large Afro-American population did not record a single vote for Obama? Interesting, nothing is too low for these two creeps.

Your a yawn tankan. the title is inflamatory however, the words of the story are short but get to the point in what many in our country our facing, and if you can't show compassion to your fellow American your a cold blooded bafoon.

SHe's gone to the "well" one too many times. As many have mentioned, even when Bill completely emabarrased her in front of the world, she never showed this type of emotion that she's now shown in the past month. Phony is a colossal understatement...

AGAIN! Oh, for crying out loud!

Although, to be fair, if *I* stayed married to Bill Clinton all these years only to find out that I wasn't going to be president after all, I'd cry too.

I keep thinking about this ... I am a woman I am a woman in a professional position. I have always been taught that in order to avoid sexism and misogyny you do twice as much twice as well and you never give into a display of emotions. So, the first time she cried I was shocked, I thought hmmm this is something cynical ... the second time I was pretty sure my reactions were cynical since her tears came close to a primary loss ... right now the third time I am really cynical: and angry!
As I said on another post rather than speaking to the officials in her area if she was so moved she could do something. I know I have done things when I am moved -- a single mother who was working in my husband's office was stressed she had no money she had no money for the holidays for her son so I gave her 1000 dollars to get her back on her feet, a child we know died and the parents were undocumented and could not get medicare to pay for the funeral so we did, and on and on ... I know so many people who when confronted with a situation reaches into their purses and just gives what they can ... and although my husband and I are okay we do not have the same economic means as the Clinton family does ... I am far from a saint but geez if something moves you to tears it means it touches you deeply ... so help her out ... think of what a public gesture could have done for her campaign ... but her tears were nothing more than display ... especially when I think back to thier uncaring attitude concerning AFDC and as other commented about the victims of the Iraq escapade ... I am sick to death of this ... everytime it is close to a primary she gets out the tears ... how does that display strong leadership? It displays exhaustion and exasperation I for one will not feel sorry for her

If you have been taught to avoid sexism and misogyny, why do you do it?

You miss one. This is number 4.

Why is the headline a LIE?
The article says her vocice "filled with emotion."

The definition of weep is "to shed tears." There is no indication in the article that she shed tears. I have never heard or read anyone use weep to mean having one's voice filled with emotion. Not until the mysogyny of this campaign took hold.

It is disgusting to see mysogyny like this on a supposedly progressive web site like the Huffington Post.

If you look at the URL of the original article at The Swamp, it reads, "hillary_clinton_weeps_over_wom.html". Before you start accusing people of being liars and misogynists (which are very serious accusations), perhaps you might consider that there could be other, less sensational factors in play here? I'm guessing The Swamp realized their error and changed the headline, but after the Huffington Post had already copied it.
10:16 AM on 02/18/2008
It is a LIE. It is misogynistic.
The story wouldn't be posted here if it did not conform to the misogynistic story line "This woman can't handle her emotions" or "This woman manipulates her emotions to manipulate the voters." I as a reader read the article and could see that she DID NOT WEEP. Cutting and pasting from another source does not mitigate the fact that
It is a LIE. It is misogynistic. It is disgusting to see misogyny like this on a supposedly progressive web site like the Huffington Post.
10:19 AM on 02/18/2008
In addition, by posting it in this way, the Huffington Post has given permission to all of the misogynistic commenters to have a field day of woman-hating. Despicable.
