Clinton Obama Copy

The two Democratic presidential campaigns traded accusations on Monday that each candidate had lifted language from other politicians, with a Clinton official going so far as to accuse Sen. Barack Obama of plagiarism.

The heated rhetoric came after segments of speeches from Obama and Massachusetts Gov. Devall Patrick were posted back-to-back on YouTube by a "rival campaign." In the clips, both men use nearly identical language when discussing the power of words.

Obama: "Don't tell me words don't matter. 'I have a dream' -- just words? 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal' -- just words? 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself' -- just words? Just speeches?"

Patrick: "'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal' -- just words? Just words? 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself' -- just words? 'Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.' Just words? 'I have a dream' -- just words?"

The Obama campaign denied anything nefarious, noting that the two men are friends and political supporters of each other and that the line was, in fact, ad-libbed.

The Clinton camp, however, jumped right on the issue arguing that the use of someone else's language was telling for a candidate who leans so heavily on his oratory. The debate - aided, in part, by a relatively slow news day - culminated in dueling conference calls at 11 am on Monday morning.

"The issue whether or not there is approval is immaterial. The public did not know that the words had come from Gov. Patrick," said Clinton's spokesperson Howard Wolfson. We need a president, added Massachussetts Rep. Jim McGovern who is "not just someone who can copy someone's homework."

Moments later, Wolfson, in a separate interview with Politico, described Obama use of Patrick's earlier speech as "plagiarism."

In response to the charges, the Obama camp took a two-prong approach: downplaying the political significance of the language lifting and making the case that Sen. Hillary Clinton, herself, had borrowed lines from Obama.

"Throughout our history there have been moments where leaders have inspired the country through words," said campaign manager David Plouffe on a conference call with reporters. "We think at the end of the day this is another effort by the Clinton campaign to create distractions." This is, he added, "a curious charge from Sen. Clinton who repeatedly throughout this campaign has used words that Sen. Obama has used."

As evidence, Bill Burton, Obama's press secretary, sent out several memos in which Clinton uttered such Obama catchphrases as: "Yes We Can," and "Fired Up And Ready To Go."

Throughout the back-and-forth a secondary debate raged as to exactly how important the whole episode was.

On one hand, Peter S. Canellos wrote in the Boston Globe, the use of lofty rhetoric - either lifted or original - can create rousing expectations that suffocate a politician.

"Except that when it comes to the actual substance of issues, there's no special agenda attached to the politics of hope. Both Patrick in 2006 and Obama this year have websites full of positions on the issues, but they're not easily distinguishable from those of other Democrats. The issues tend to get lost in the language of hope, perhaps because they sound and feel routine, and don't strike an inspirational chord."

On the other, as Obama noted in a press conference later on Monday, workers in Ohio couldn't care less about one segment in a lengthy speech.

"[Patrick] has occasionally used lines of mine. I have occasionally used some words of his. I know Sen. Clinton has used words of mind as well. I don't think that is something that workers here are concerned about." Obama added that he should have credited Patrick, but said in the end, "I really don't think this is too big of a deal."

It's was really sad to see that Obama had to stoop to sending in a plant to heckel Bill Clinton (who promptly humiliated said plant)

And now he is ripping off speeches from disgraced governors. Doesn't sound to me like the guy has any class or dignity. But, boy that didn't stop NBC from coming to his defense tonight on Nightly News. Obama can always count on the media morons to hold his hand when he screws up...To bad for Obama the rest of America makes up our own minds, and we choose Hillary.

You mean those disciplined Clintons becoming desperate? How sad, they don't know that most people don't like desperation in people, on a date or in a politician.

They have Hill stealing from Barack's slogans; then hire a plant for Bill's speech; now this. How ugly will those Clintons make the two weeks between tomorrow and March 4th?

The Clinton Campaign Just Now...

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/02/the-clinton-cam.html

February 18, 2008 11:33 AM

In a conference call just now the Clinton campaign would not guarantee that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, has never used someone else's rhetoric without crediting them.

I asked Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson and Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass, if they could assure the public that neither Clinton nor McGovern has ever done what Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, did when he used the rhetoric of Gov. Deval Patrick without footnoting him.
They would not.

In fact, Wolfson seemed to say it wouldn't be as big a deal if it were discovered that Clinton had "lifted" such language.

"Sen. Clinton is not running on the strength of her rhetoric," Wolfson said. Hmmmm.

Professor says if experience counts, Hillary should vote for McCain

David Davenport is a former president of Pepperdine University, where he still teaches public policy, and a research fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

He's bemused by Hillary Clinton's argument that she deserves the Democratic presidential nomination because she's so much more experienced than Barack Obama.

"Hillary Clinton says experience counts, but what is her experience, really?" he says in this short audio commentary for Townhall.com.

"Eight years in the U.S. Senate (compared to four for Obama and

22 for McCain) and eight years as the first lady.

"I asked my wife, who was close by when I served as a university president for 15 years, whether she felt prepared now to run a college. She correctly said, 'No.' "

If experience really counts, he concludes, "look for John McCain to be our next president."

You're correct with your assessment, if these so-called "educated" Obamites supporters had been to college, they knew plagiarism is an offense and will cause being kick out of school. Biden lost his bid for the WH because of plagiarism. What made it worse for Obama and this is his BIGGEST BLUNDER, he's all rhetoric, no substance.

Can we talk about something more interesting
such as Hillary's campaign contributions from drug makers, Roche.
Hillay being the largest recipient of $$$ from drug makers to any senator ever. How about donations from the Carlyle Group, Bush linked defense contractors who have made millions.] from the war in Iraq.
How about Peter Paul and the court case coming up in California regarding a fundraiser event for Hillary for senate. This is
the first civil case charging a senator and former president with fraud, deceit and conspiracy. How about Stan Lee experiences with his campaign contributions to Hillary.

What's that smell?

Not so fast, Karl.

Obama has stayed above the fray on this one. This stuff is toughening him up for the general election.

She fills the air with flying mud, he comes out smelling like a rose and higher in the polls.

I hope she keeps the allegations coming. By the time he gets the nomination he'll be plenty battle tested and the baddest dude on the block.

The Clinton campaign is grasping at straws. I would expect that because they are desperate. I blame the media for paying attention to the Clinton press memos that are designed to spin the news - or create "news". Why waste our time with this sort of nonsense? Come on media - do your job - don't just act like a mouthpiece for campaigns.

I just saw a clip of Hillary saying, "My opponent says 'No, we can't." Well, I say 'Yes, we can! And yes, we will!"

Why isn't that plagiarism, too (as well as rank hypocrisy and cynical misrepresentation, Clinton-style)?

"YES WE CAN" originated from Cesar Chavez in the 60's founder of UFW,they endorsed HILLARY. If there's someone who should use that catchy words is Hillary, majority of Latinos are supporting her. Dolores Huerta, co-founder of UFW is campaigning for Hillary in Texas.

Obama has been touting himself as the authentic candidate with a gift for speech making. Bottom line he is an empty suit that takes the words out his friends mouth and pretends that they are his. Furthermore, I will never trust him to represent me or the party, because he refused to vote on the FISA bill with retroactive immunity for the telecoms. He was in the chamber and was listed as "not voting". No thanks. It's either Hillary or no one for me. I have no second choice anymore.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:56 PM on 02/18/2008

It's not like Obama started his campaign bragging about his gift for speech.

It was the Clinton campaign who made an issue of his gift for words (because Obama was inspiring a lot of people) and tried to set up a false dichotomy: Pretty speeches = short on substance

But in reality, Obama's very real gift for words does not mean he is not gifted at understanding issues, getting things done, and other important leadership qualities--he has those gifts, too.

Deval Patrick SUGGESTED Obama use those words to refute the Clinton campaign's accusations that he is an "empty suit," as you say.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/02/obama-campaign.html

The Clinton's were well aware of the Obama/Deval close friendship, but counted on the public being ignorant of it and counted on the headlines being about Obama and plagiarism, which if you check most of the news sites right now, they are.

The false dichotomy attacks plus the plagiarism attacks are in the Rovian mold of trying to turn someone's greatest strength into a weakness. This is, in essence, swiftboating.

BTW, there are clips up now online of Clinton stealing speech lines from Obama and Edwards.

If you really are down to "Hillary or no one" and you're looking for an "authentic" candidate, you might want to go with "no one."

Didn't Clinton go down as "Not Voting" on Fisa?

Obama’s campaign is based on people must believe in his words; how can the American people do it when the words of Obama spoken like are true orators are not even his own words? Words are very powerful if they are your OWN words, but if words you use are borrowed without giving credit where credit is due, you’d look dumb and stupid. This goes back to character of Obama. Last week I’ve posted in this blog Obama is a PLAGIARIST and a THIEF. I be darn if Obama did not commit the worst BLUNDER in his career as a politician. Joseph Biden lost his bid for the Whitehouse because of PLAGIARISM. College students are kicked out of universities all over the US for committing plagiarism. Obama has nothing to talk about when it comes to track record, his campaign are ALL base on WORDS, now we find out even his words are NOT his own.

How does it feel being hoodwinked, bamboozled by Obama’s inspiring words?

Hillary plagiarized 8 years of her "35 years of experience" from Bill's.

C'mon folks... this is actually reason to rejoice. If she's stooping this low into stupidity, it means she's in worse shape than we knew.
