I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Pat Robertson Coke
On Monday morning's "700 Club", while discussing Hugo Chavez's decision to continue shipping oil to the U.S., Pat Robertson went off on a strange tangent about a producer who revealed the secret to his muscular physique: cocaine. According to Pat, a "700 Club" producer bragged to him several years ago about ingesting a "paste of cocoa" to keep him strong. "Not cocoa like hot chocolate," Pat explained, "but cocoa like cocaine." Pat displayed his grasp of the U.S. legal system, saying "As I understand, the distribution of cocaine and its derivatives are against the law." That didn't stop Pat from having a good laugh at his coke-using producer's expense.

Update: Upon careful review of the episode in question, Robertson was only guilty of using a vague pronoun. The "he" in question refers to Hugo Chavez and not a "700 Club" producer. Huffington Post apologizes for the error.

Watch Pat ruin his drug connections below:

There is not a whole lot of science behind our drug policy and people's reaction to even the mention of drugs. Like illegal abortion, the rich and powerful get away with whatever they want and the poor suffer. It would be nice if we didn't have extremist reactions become policy.

For Christsakes! If Huffington Post is now apologizing for it's "error's" they might need a whole page just for the apologies. AH will say anything!

Kudos to the young lady on the set with him.

She covered her bosses' obvious mental imbalance just like a pro...

And probably went and took a LONG, hot shower afterwards...

Young lady as she leaves the set:

"What in the WORLD was THAT about??????"

So. Nice to hear about your awards and all that. Tell me, is it a fact that Pat Robertson called for the assasination of Hugo Chavez? And maybe a few other folks he was praying to god to terminate. A few judges perhaps? Isn't that ummm... illegal?

No? Sorry. My mistake.

{whataputz}.... :-|

I'm Pat Robertson's (the guy in his ear during the broadcast) Producer.
I used to Executive Produce GMA, I was the original Senior Producer of This Week with David Brinkley, and I created the ABC News Answering Childrens Questions specials with Peter Jennings...(Got the DuPont and the Emmys to prove it).
Pat Robertson was not saying or implying that his producer (me) had taken this 'coca paste' stuff...He was sharing with the audience what I had shared with him from research I had been doing to figure out what makes Chavez so hyped up and dangerous.
I shared with him a news account of Chavez bragging in a recent National Assembly speech that he chews on Coca paste every morning.
Add to that, Chavez bragged that he gets his coca paste from the president of Bolivia...which is in violation of some South American pact to not promote the use of cocaine or any derivative...it is in fact illegal.
Since I began working with Pat in the weeks after his well publicized comments about Ariel Sharon and Hugo Chavez,Dr. Robertson has a tendency to mention that he has learned something from his producer (that would be me)
So Huffington post, to set the record straight...NO, I DON'T USE THE STUFF OR ANYTHING ELSE...but thanks for all the attention your mis-reporting has caused. And hey, what about a little credit for the great job CBN News and David Brody are doing covering Politics! Check out his daily blog at CBN.com

USA Today article:
"Coca paste is a chunky, off-white to light-brown, putty-like substance that exists primarily as an intermediate product in the processing of coca leaves into powder cocaine. ... Chemically, coca paste is a base form of cocaine (similar to freebase cocaine and crack cocaine) and typically contains residual toxins from the conversion process...While most coca paste is converted into powder cocaine, the paste itself is smoked in South American countries that produce cocaine." So, is he as 'off track' in person as he is on the air?

So, does he still own the gold mines?

So, where DOES all that money go?

So, if he believes in the 'EndTimes', what's up with that "Protein Shake" of infinity anyhoo?

And the "HEAL"...bit on the air - kinda creepy.

So, with all those rewards and such, what's a nice PROFESSIONAL doing in such a SnakeOil selling production?

Normal people are curious.....we've seen the movie...."Elmer Gantry", that is....

The point is not that you used or didn't use but that Pat is going off the deep(er) end. But for a future show you could maybe have him talk about our waste of money on the war on drugs and how the money could be used to help the poor.

You have to laugh. Not only is the use of cocaine illegal and dangerous, it should certainly be frowned upon by someone in his position. And what a friend! Tell him a dirty little secret and he turns it into a joke on a show so highly respected and watched by the evangelical set! Way to go, Pat!

Pat's greed and madness is claiming him, like it does all evil people in power. We were designed to implode from misuse of power, and others. He is guilty of all these crimes and the signs are showing.

Soon he will simply implode on air - for the whole world to watch. The facade will slip away.

Then we will see what he really is. Oh boy, will we see.

If I understand the Huffington Post policy, bloggers are given a finite amount of time to correct errors. It will be interesting to see whether the correction is made quickly. For what it's worth, Ada Calhoun, on AOL's newsbloggers site corrected her pick-up of this item within minutes of being informed.

Go to 4:50 into the recording. The story is about Hugo Chavez. Robertson does enough goofy and dangerous things without anyone needing to make him look look goofier. The reaction of most of the posters on this site will only be used to defend Robertson when this article is revised and we don't need that.

Yes Pat, it’s always a big joke when some pseudo-Christian neo-con does it. It’s not a serious offense like the time Bill Clinton’s pant leg rose above his sock. The right wing couldn’t wait to rail against that atrocity.

He's obviously talking about Hugo Chavez even from this clip you can glean that, jeez.

Wow. So far only one poster has done the research to see that the reference was not to the producer, but to Hugo Chavez. I don't care for Pat Robertson's pronouncement, but let's be careful to pillory him for what he said, not for what a clip taken out of context implies. This reaction, if not corrected, will come back to bite liberals and progressives in the end.
