Pat Robertson Laughs About His Cocaine-Using Pal On "700 Club"

On Monday morning's "700 Club", while discussing Hugo Chavez's decision to continue shipping oil to the U.S., Pat Robertson went off on a strange tangent about a producer who revealed the secret to his muscular physique: cocaine. According to Pat, a "700 Club" producer bragged to him several years ago about ingesting a "paste of cocoa" to keep him strong. "Not cocoa like hot chocolate," Pat explained, "but cocoa like cocaine." Pat displayed his grasp of the U.S. legal system, saying "As I understand, the distribution of cocaine and its derivatives are against the law." That didn't stop Pat from having a good laugh at his coke-using producer's expense.


Update: Upon careful review of the episode in question, Robertson was only guilty of using a vague pronoun. The "he" in question refers to Hugo Chavez and not a "700 Club" producer. Huffington Post apologizes for the error.

I'm no fan of Pat...but funny thing...I was flipping the channels yesterday and happened to this sequence. He was NOT busting on his producer but rather the comment was in reference to Hugo Chavez. I thought the comments were odd for a completely different reason...that Pat's producer had some specific knowledge regarding Hugo's drug usage or that a "Cocoa Paste" was actually cocaine... So...criticize Pat if you must...but do so for the right reasons. He says some nutty things, that's for sure...but this time, he it was only half nutty...and whoever posted this video should have seen that rather than to get many of the posters here all worked up.

I'm sure they would have mentioned the Hugo reference if there was one.
I watched the video and he clearly was refering to his producer.

Hey...I like Morning Joe and watch it often...that's why when they reported it the way they did, I was curious and took the time to look at this site (referenced on MJ by the way) and to post (based on a surprising amount of very harsh comments).

So...let's see...in my efforts to be accurate, I've been accused of working for Pat (ha)... I suppose it's much better to rant and rave based upon a video clip. Do you really think that Joe's producers did the research on something so frivolous? And do you really think they will correct it?

"But hey...it's funny...we don't like Pat...so let's go after him..." But watch out if it's a conservative that goes after someone we like under the same circumstances.

I used to watch, I should say "monitor," Pat a lot, and he always laughs at weird times. I have always thought it was a sign of his pathology. I sure would find it awkward spending any time with him, what with that laughing.

By the way, notice how Pat is positioned slightly behind the obsequious young woman on the show with him. They always have done it that way---so that Pat faces the camera, but she has to look slightly back. In the theatre, they call that upstaging. Of course nobody on the show is equal to Pat. It's like he's the big prophet, and the others are just there to keep the ball rolling.

All in all, quite a spectacle!
