Michelle Obama Proud

Newsday:

Here's a quote from Michelle Obama, via the Globe and Politico, that seems to have trouble written all over it:

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country," she told a Milwaukee crowd today, "because it feels like hope is making a comeback."

A lot of Republicans, and Democrats, and Independents will be surprised to learn that pre-Obama, there was no reason to be proud of America. Probably she didn't mean that. But what did she mean?

It is quite clear that Cindy McCain is a Republican. She lacks empathy. Michelle Obama is looking at America through her own eyes and experience. Has Cindy noticed that Michelle is black? There is a bit of a difference in their ancestry. Obama's ancestors were quite likely slaves. And if not, subsequent generations were not treated with equality. To see her husband, a black man, with a serious shot at the White House, is a new perspective for her. McCain's ansestors were rich, white beer salesmen. Do you see a difference? Apparently, Cinidy McCain doesn't.

WTF? Michelle Obama has had the opportunity to pull herself out of the getto and go to two Ivy League Schools and find herself in the top income tier. What was her beef prior to now? I would be willing to bet that she was the recipiant of some financial assistance for her education. A little gratitude would be nice.

"I know Jacquline Kennedy, and Michelle Obama is NO Jacquline Kennedy" LOL!

The aging "Barbie Doll" and her scary "Ken"!
........Now if she would just learn how to dress............cleavage is not a great look for campaign acceptance speeches!

.and that hair!!! Halloween was months ago!

I swear that hair has to go! Michelle may need one too, but Cindy McCain has to have a serious makeover before she can be first lady. Her hair sometimes looks like a street walker!

Please stop making fun of CIndy McCain, and I can't believe I have to defend any Republican, but take a look at Michele Obama. What look is she going for exactly. I think it is a cross between COretta Scott King and Jacqueline Kennedy, and it really isn't working.

I actually thought Cindy McCain is an attractive woman and would probably make a nice First Lady, even though I would never vote for her husband or Michele's husband either.

unless the smug mrs. obama is 25 years-old she's been an adult for more time than dumbya's admin has been around. her comment reeks of arrogance and a sense of superiority that she has revealed on other occasions.

only whenn his equally arrogant husband is close be being the POTUS is she really proud of her country? that say all we have to know about this woman.

no wonder she's oprah's kind of people.

Absolutely lets not forget the clinton impeachment hearings, Iran contra scandal, bush I, Reagan. You're right she should have said for first time in my adult life except for a couple of years I am REALLY proud to be an American as opposed to just proud. Sheesh

An Open Letter to Cindy McCain
Dear Mrs. McCain,

I'm sincerely happy for you that you are proud of this country.

Proud of the JOB OUTSOURCING
Proud of the FAILED FOREIGN POLICY
Proud of the PITIFUL EDUCATION SYSTEM
Proud of the LACK OF AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE
Proud of CORPORATE CORRUPTION
Proud of AMERICAN CONSUMERS BEING RIPPED OFF WHILE EXECUTIVES MAKE
BILLIONS
Proud of THE WAY THE REST OF THE WORLD HATES US
Proud of A FAILING ECONOMY
Proud of REPUBLICANS ON ONE SIDE AND DEMOCRATS ON THE OTHER

Is this what are you proud of? My grandfather was a retired Air Force captain. I nearly followed in his footsteps. Make no mistake, I love this country, but I am NOT proud of the direction we've gone. And if you can honestly be proud of it, than there is something seriously wrong with your
principles. It is this exact EVERYTHING-IS-PERFECT-HEAD-IN-THE-SAND-REPUBLICAN-RHETORIC
that is the reason that THIS Republican is voting for BARACK OBAMA! This country needs a change that we can be proud of, cause right now there's not a whole lot there.

I will be PROUD to see Michelle Obama as the First Lady of this country. She has far more class than other candidates' spouses.

Cindy McCain should always love her country, afterall it's the country that failed to charge her with posession of prescription drugs in the names of her staff members, but were for her use.Because she's the wife of a "war hero and Senator charges were never filed.I wonder if "pill head" Cindy was lucid when she made the comments about Michelled Obama.
Regarding the comments of Mrs Obama, she's correct as American Black man in my late 40's I too am really proud of my country and proud to be an American. We have moved forward in leaps and bounds about race in this country, to where a Bi-racial American man (who identifies as a Black man) is successfully running for President and Americans of ALL STRIPES are voting for him in mass numbers. That is something to be really proud about, also I'm proud to be an American witnessing this.Mrs.Obama said nothing wrong or offensive perhaps Cindy was on a yellow jacket on something when she made her comments.

Oh and you just started "making leaps and bounds" since Obama announced his intention to run for POTUS? This has been evolving over decades!

Cindy McCain vs. Michelle Obama!

A botoxed, plastic surgery beauty queen wannabe vs an accomplished lawyer...Hmmm.....

They should have First Lady debates. I would love to see that one.

I couldn't agree more with Michelle Obama. I am considerably older than Michelle, but this is the first time in many years that I, too, am REALLY proud of my country. The operative word is REALLY which so many of the pundits are ignoring in their quest to be relevant and create a story to further their careers. Maybe they're afraid of plagiarizing if they quote her exactly.

If McCain wants to drag the wives into this fray, I'm sure that the Obama folks will have a lot to say about Mrs. McCain's drug addiction, drug theft, affair with a married John McCain and her role in the Keating five disaster

I hope Obama prepares for the Hurricane Katrina that is coming his way. The right wing has been handed a gift from god.

Slaphappy...you are sooo right...the right-wing radio machine is frothing right now...Michelle needs to humble herself and nip this quick...it alienates and turns off a lot of people even if it's a manufactured anger, people start to buy into it..

Cindy McCain better shut her trap. A drug addict who steals from her a charity. If McCain wants to bring up Obama's drug use as a young man then go they better be ready for their glass house to be shattered.

I hate to say this but this will become an issue - did anyone see Pat Bucannon (SP?) last night? They are not going to let this go. Did she have the right to say it yes and I think a lot of us agree with her sentiment but the Repuke machine is already trying to paint Obama as unpatriotic and this only plays into their hands. She should clarify her statement and drop it from her speeches, this is politics people and we need to be realistic. That said I don't think the McCain camp did themselves any favors by having Cindy McCain attack Michelle.. at the risk of making my husband sound sexist, he said she looks like an evil Fembot.

"Did she have a right to say it yes"

Does anyone who disagrees with her sentiment have a right to quote her and point out that her mentality is not in the right place for the spouse and, again quoting, "closest adviser" to the president - yes.

ceasenake - I'm assuming you disagree with her sentiment and are really proud of the Bush administration .... Yes you absolutely have the right to point our how wrong you think her mentality is. She didn't say she wasn't proud to be an American.

True, the Repugs will try to turn Michelle Obama into the Hillary Clinton of 1992. However, Cindy McCain has her own package...I'm not sure if they want to get into a battle between First Lady biographies.

Honestly, who else would you expect to be defending what white men have done to this country?

All the elderly white men who have done to this country....

The republicans have nothing else to run on except Michelle Obama?

oh - yes...I forgot... McCain lied about Romney and not even his own campaign could get him to admit it, he says he would have started with war with Iraq if Georgie hadn't, and he will keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years.

Then we get to compare Mrs McCain's character with Michelle Obama's?

cake walk

dutchess2, Sorry, you are really delusional if you think that Obama's election will be a cakewalk. the Dems will never take the White House IN 2008, thanks to having him as the nominee.
Michele Obama is just one small little problem for him.
Who cares about Michele OBama or Cindy McCain, they are not the presidential candidates, but both should use common sense before they open their mouths.
