Sen. Hillary Clinton began giving a speech on Tuesday night shortly after Wisconsin's results came in. But within minutes, Sen. Barack Obama appeared in Texas to give his victory speech, and the networks cut Clinton off. Ouch. Watch it:

Why do Clinton supporters keep saying Obama is whining,I've never heard him complain, only the public react to Clinton campaign tactics by not voting for her.
Besides he does not need to whine,he is winning, the whining is from the Clinton camp, complaining about media coverage that they consider unfair, but consider if Obama had lost ten contests in a row they would be screaming for him to get out of the race.

Good point, chi. The only comment that could remotely be construed as "negative" from Obama is his pointing out that Hillary voted for the Iraq War. Last I checked, that is simply a factual comparison of their rationales for going to war.

If the Only thing Obama has to his credit is ...I did'nt vote for this war... why does he think he can lead anyone ???
Everyone in our country is aware that Obama was not even in the senate at the time , hence
No Vote !!
That hardly qualifys him for much !!!
You sound a bit ridiculous !!!

To the Victor goes the Spoils I guess...

It should be noted that HRC was 30 minutes late, Obama was on time.

From a purely visual point, what looks better to a news director...5,000 people at what ended up a concession rally at a high school gym, or 19,000 at a victory rally in a sports arena?

I've seen some posts here from Clinton supporters feeling a little bitter. They don't seem to understand the excitement others have for Barack. So let me try to help. I'm old enough to have followed elections ever since the beginning of Reagan. I have never seen a candidate that places their campaign in the hands of the people. They have always just chosen certain groups, on constituencies (usually big money interests) and ran on that support. Barack Obama is putting his campaign and his eventual presidency in our hands. He has been funded by small donations from millions of THE PEOPLE. So his political favors are therefore due to the people in return. Instead of Haliburton, or ExonMobile getting the favors, it will be the people. You and I. He isn't promising anything he's going to do on his own, very unique by itself, but showing us what's possible if we start getting engaged in the system. Anything is possible when we start working together to fix our problems instead of being divided into groups arguing about them. Senator Clinton, in most times you would have been an outstanding candidate and I would have been happy to support you. But this is not most times. This is history. This country is facing so many challenges that will only be met with everyone working together.

I'm old enough to have been politically aware when JFK was alive. Camelot, belief in good government & volunteerism wasn't a myth then and it could be real again.

I'm old enough to have been politically aware when the Republican's winning slogan was "I Like Ike." Camelot consisted of JFK and Jacky holding state dinners with a great wine list, RFK hammering his brother into getting involved in the civil rights movement, and Jack borrowing Hubert Humphrey's pet project to start up the Peace Corps. JFK's campaign ran on ending the so-called missle gap, which never really existed, and he was ineffective with Congress. Having said that, Obama - like Danny Quaile - is no JFK. Jack Kennedy didn't get his inspirational speeches from a teleprompter, didn't have cable news pundits cheering him on when he overcame the Catholic issue, was a legitimate war hero, and had served 14 years in the House and Senate before being elected. People may like seeing JFK in Obama, but they are just projecting into Barack qualities they think they remember about Camelot.

Obama is in as many corporate back pockets as Clinton is. The difference between the two candidates is that she has the experience in knowing how much to bend for the corporations when to make THEM bend. Obama simply doesn't have it, and I can see him making a lot of deals that he'll regret due to his inexperience.

Why should any network wait for her to finish?

Hillary losing primaries is NOT NEWS!

Hillary ignoring reaility is NOT NEWS!

Hillary looking for excuses ist NOT NEWS!

Hillary going on about how words don't matter is also:

NOT NEWS!

And .. we all know her rhetoric isn't worth watching.

Didn't Obama just steal a speech from Governor Patrick about the IMPORTANCE of words and rhetoric, Capeman? Seems to me you shouldn't underestimate the fear the Obama camp had last night about HILLARY'S words.

No he did not. he Had permission to us those words. However Clinton I'm sur did not Have Jessie Jackson's permission to use "Our time has come N.N.C." from his 1984 S. Carolina Speech! Remember S. Carolina when Bill Clinton compared Jessie J. Fash in the Pan Popularity to Obama-----thinking he wouldn't win any states that wasnl't Black? Next she used "We are the one's we been waiting for" She stole that from June Jordan poem. and she didn't stop there--------We come to her words of "A change is comeing" Stolen fron song writer and singer Hatchin Norman song. Now I'm she she didn't have permision to use any of these peoples words like Obama got his permission. So she don't want to yell the words Plagiarism to Loud or it will be her up against the fence.

It is official, most of Hillarys supporters are petty and small. After reading these comments I can see how upset and desperate they aree, now that they know they are going to lose. Small petty personal attacks against their WORST ENEMY, WHO THEY TREAT AS IF HE IS A CHILD RAPIST.
LOL, GROW UP AND GET A LIFE.

You're projecting, dylansstp. Obama and his coterie were petty, vindictive, and showed his song and dance about the politics of change and of hope to be so much bull.

It has been a decades-long custom for the victor to allow his or her opponent to speak first. For Obama to step all over that and Senator Clinton's speech is rude, tacky, and immature. It just underscores that he cannot be trusted -- as if his constant (and cowardly) "present" votes in the Senate and his use of Bush talking points to launch false attacks on Social Security hadn't demonstrated that already.

This is the Obama "new politics"? This is the "turning a page"? This is "bringing people together"? Sounds like the same old nasty character assasination to me. Hilary Clinton has handled this guy with kid gloves. If Obama is whining about being mistreated now, just wait until the republicans get done with him.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:02 PM on 02/20/2008

Can't wait for that. The 2+ dem votes for each republican vote in the primary, '06 election, money going to dems at 4-1, are all very good indicators of how things will go for the republicans. Throw in an illegal war, torture, renditions, wiretapping, housing crisis and the largest deficit in history and John McCain should have LOTS of fun!

Sen. Obama gave Hillary plenty of time last night to congratulate his campaign for having a great victory in Wisconsin -- and she failed to do that. Big mistake on Hillary's part! So Sen. Obama decided that it was time for him to get on TV and make sure the viewing audience knew who the winner was in Wisconsin... too bad for Hillary! She keeps making so many bad political choices these days!

I'll admit it, when Senator Obama got up to speak and Senator Clinton was still speaking - I cringed.

It felt calculated. Cut her off before she can bad mouth Senator Obama yet again on national television. Grab the moment of victory right away before someone else can sully it.

Not defending this decision if it were deliberate (and I have a hard time believing it couldn't have been), but I can see the rationale. Especially since Senator Clinton neither congratulated Senator Obama on his win (not that big a deal, but a minor slight) and she didn't even thank the Wisconsin voters who did vote for her (many did, passionately, and it could have been a lot worse for her if they realized she wouldn't acknowledge their efforts afterward.)

Still, even though I don't see this being THAT BIG of an issue - even as I fear this being blown way out of proportion (I do remember another similar thing happening a week or three back where one candidate was speaking and another started speaking at the same time, I think it was Romney and someone else, and no one made a media spectacle about that though I, again, felt it was rude) -

I can't defend that. They had to have campaign workers watching the news networks for the race being called and therefore they had to know Senator Clinton was speaking. Someone made the decision it was ok to start speaking while she was still speaking, knowing the networks would switch over immediately to the winner of the night's speech over the loser of the night.

So, for all you upset Senator Clinton supporters - this time, I think you have a reason to be upset. Well, several reasons from last night, but a genuine unarguable reason to feel that the Senator Obama camp played a little dirty last night.

Obama and Obama supporters have not given Hillary an ounce of respect since the very beginning. What are you talking about?

And is your candidate above the fray of attacks? Yes, he is. Because anyone who does call his character or past in to question is labeled a bigoted racist. What a fucking joke this is.

Oh, I'm not a supporter of Senator Clinton. I think the disingenuous and slanderous ads and comments her campaign made during her campaigning in Wisconsin were pretty low.

I voted for Senator Obama. I voted for him back when I lived in Illinois for Senate. I came to Senator Obama's side fairly late in this primary cycle (leaning towards him just before Iowa) and became a big supporter after his speech in South Carolina encouraged me to investigate his record further than I had back when he ran for the Senate.

I became disenchanted with President Clinton's adminstration shortly into his second term. I don't want that back in the White House. Senator Clinton's voting record and work since gaining office has left me cold. Her campaigns tactics have really turned me off.

All that said - Senator Obama's campaign cutting off Senator Clinton's stump speech (it wasn't a concession nor a thank you to Wisconsin voters who supported her, just another pitch for her being the best and Barack being fluff) felt like and most likely was a political stunt and it feels dirtier than I want him to run. That's all.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:08 PM on 02/20/2008

Nobody told you Senator Clinton wasn't Late to her Own plat-form? Well, she was and would have her speech done and cut if she'd been on time--------and this was the choice of the network to pull away from here her late speech.

Clinton isn't running on that, she's running on her record (bringing home the bacon to NY, getting the morningafter pill over the counter, etc.). Obama doesn't have one, so this is what he's running on. sad.

Obama gives as good as he gets. he'd be a loser if he didn't, but it's only a crime when Clinton does it. sadder.

As it was explained last night, Obama had set out his schedule of air time first. Then Hillary jumped in front of him. Also note that in her speech, she didn't admit defeat, nor congratulate him AGAIN for his win. Also, I understand she spoke practically as long as he did so her jumping in front of his already announced time, with a long speech, was the first diss and it turned out a nasty one. Her chess move was hoping that people would feel sorry for her if she got knocked off the air. The only thing she seems to have going for her recently. Victimization. And you bought into it I'm afraid. Obama was right to not let her get away with it. Newscasters are the ones who pointed out that she yet again hadn't congratulated him. Later, they said, after they both spoke (and she got caught out in the media) she called Barack and congratulated him privately.

I'd say our man Barack is a better chess player. A damn good one. One the world needs in today's messy world.

For the last several contests she hasn't acknowledged his wins or graciously congratulated Obama. It's a concession speech, not an open platform for her boring stump speech. She needs to win to earn the right to do that!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:52 AM on 02/20/2008

So-- you believe the TV networks should allow a loser to ramble on for 30 minutes or so, and at the same time ignore THE WINNER who gets on stage to give his VICTORY SPEECH? What loony planet are you living on?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:33 PM on 02/20/2008

First of all, congrats to Clinton and Obama. It's not easy going through this. Second, after the way Clinton attacked Obama before Wisconsin, I can't blame Obama for doing what he did. I thought it was actually pretty smart. That said, I really think it's time for Hillary to step down. She's had her chance to attack Barack and it didn't work. This race has done enough damage to the party, and going down the road we're on won't get Hillary, or the party, anywhere. It's time for some graciousness and selflessness. It's time to rally around our nominee and turn our attention to John McCain and the disastrous platform he's presenting.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:24 AM on 02/20/2008

This is well said. Westseattle and I differ in our opinion on whether Obama timed his speech correctly. My gut reaction when he walked onto stage with Clinton split-screened was that it seemed a bit arrogant. However, the Clinton campaign, indeed, has blown so much smoke for so many years they've even blinded themselves. Hillary has lots of positives however, Obama is helping to clear the air. If anything ... he respects our intelligence.

I still can't understand how the DNC could have been so idiotic as to remove the delegates from two large states and not lower the total of delegates needed for victory at the same time. If that is the same level of competence we can expect from the Democratics in running things, I would be worried.

"The democrats won't control him. Big money won't control him."

And so Sen. Obama would ignore requests from Sen. Kennedy and Sen. Kerry about appointments to his cabinet and various positions within the administration? If you do not believe there are paybacks expected to be given for the support some of the bigwigs have given to Sen. Obama, you have got to be living in a different world.

Sort of looks from the Exelon situation, that Sen. Obama has not been immune to the big money influence in his political life so far. So why is that going to change? A key member of his campaign staff was a main lobbyist for Exelon. You might also look at the banking/wall street interests backing him (same as with Sen. Clinton).
