Obama: I'm Aware "Of My Imperfections"

Sen. Barack Obama introduced a seemingly new line in his campaign speech on Tuesday, an acknowledgment of sorts of recent criticism that his supporters have painted him as a quasi-messianic figure.

"As aware as I am of my imperfections," he told the crowd, "as clear as I am that I am not a perfect vessel, I would not be running if I did not believe that I could lead this country in a new direction, that we have a unique moment that we have to seize, but I have to tell you Houston I cannot do it by myself. No person can."

The remark came in Houston, Texas, as Obama celebrated his victory in the Wisconsin Democratic primary.

In recent days, Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign and political observers have taken the Illinois Democrat to task for allegedly being overly reliant on rhetoric and little substance. Obama, the logic goes, has presented himself as pure and transcendent over traditional politics, a portrayal that does not mesh with reality. As evidence, they've highlighted Obama's apparent waffling on publicly financing a general election battle against Sen. John McCain, his use of negative campaign mailers to attack Clinton's position on NAFTA, and allegations that he has borrowed lines from speeches of his friend and campaign co-chair, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.

New York Times columnist David Brooks, broached the topic in a column on Tuesday morning when he wrote:

"Up until now The Chosen One's speeches had seemed to them less like stretches of words and more like soul sensations that transcended time and space. But those in the grips of Obama Comedown Syndrome began to wonder if His stuff actually made sense. For example, His Hopeness tells rallies that we are the change we have been waiting for, but if we are the change we have been waiting for then why have we been waiting since we've been here all along?"

Howcome the media isn't discussing this man's Communist leanings and his Neocon (Bolshevik)cabinet? Zbigniew Brzezinski is his foreign affairs advisor, and Obama also has two war criminals from the Rwanda genocide in his cabinet. WTF???

Barack Obama is inspirationially VAGUE about what he's going to "change" for a good reason: Not because he has no ideas, but because you would probably HATE them. Unless Mussolini is your hero, then by all means vote for him and his warcriminal cabinet and it's global domination agenda. FOOLS.

From Accuracy in Media:

Obama's communist connection adds to mounting public concern about a candidate who has come out of virtually nowhere, with a brief U.S. Senate legislative record, to become the Democratic Party frontrunner for the U.S. presidency. In the latest Real Clear Politics poll average, Obama beats Republican John McCain by almost four percentage points.

AIM recently disclosed that Obama has well-documented socialist connections, which help explain why he sponsored a "Global Poverty Act" designed to send hundreds of billions of dollars of U.S. foreign aid to the rest of the world, in order to meet U.N. demands. The bill has passed the House and a Senate committee, and awaits full Senate action.

But the Communist Party connection through Davis is even more ominous. Decades ago, the CPUSA had tens of thousands of members, some of them covert agents who had penetrated the U.S. Government. It received secret subsidies from the old Soviet Union.

You won't find any of this discussed in the David Mendell book, Obama: From Promise to Power. It is typical of the superficial biographies of Obama now on the market. Secret smoking seems to be Obama's most controversial activity. At best, Mendell and the liberal media describe Obama as "left-leaning."

One more thing: The "meteoric rise out of nowhere" is the calling card of a Bilderberg/corporatist stooge. But hey it's your vote! As for ME, if anyone from the DNC comes a knocking, s/he's getting a kick in the groin for selling out the American people, because we have NO ONE to vote for if we really care about this country:

Hillary: Bolshevik, Globalist, Fabian Socialist
Barack: Bolshevik, Fascist a la Mussolini

Hell, if inspiration is all that it takes -

Hitler inspired people
Mussolini inspired people
Castro inspired people
Charles Manson inspired his followers.

"The Audacity of Hype" Folks, we're not in church, and this is not a revival meeting. Don't be fooled by the pretty. Look under the rug for FOR GODS SAKE! Or at least America's sake.

Whoop de doo! That's a damn good question. The answer is: you've been living like a dog inside a 3' box. When they take the box away, you still stay in a 3' radius. It's pretty hilarious that this statement is supposed to be an indictment of the "change" rhetoric. HEL-LO! That's the POINT.

The Hillary & "Bill in a China Shop" show is in freefall.
There are two stages before political irrelevancy.
First the politician becomes the object of derision and then they become the object of pity. That is where HRC finds herself.
Hey, call me silly, but doesn"t her campaign remind you of the war in Iraq.
Bush was fixated on winning Baghdad, thinking that constituted victory and gave little thought to the aftermath.
HRC was fixated on winning Super Tuesday, feeling confident that she would have it wrapped up by then, so why bother with the caucus states.
Bush thought that the Iraqi people wanted democracy but what they really wanted was security.
HRC thought the American people wanted experience, but what they really wanted was change.
Bush thought that since he had the support of the Chalabis the support of the Iraqi people would follow.
HRC thought that if she had the support of the Rangels and Youngs, she would have the support of a core constituency.
Both Bush and HRC can be faulted for hiring people based on loyalty and a distant, secondarily, competence.
Neither Bush nor HRC can be accused of admitting to error.
Neither can be accused of humility.
Both feel that if you are not with them, you are against them.
Bush calls his enemies evil.
HRC threatens to "demonize" those who question her wisdom.
All of this is so old school!
Well a political Tsunami is sweeping across this land and I am reminded of a Dylan line, "Something is happening here and you don"t know what it is, do you Mr. Jones!"

If Obama is so OPEN about his faults, why does he tell reporters who ask for more details about his Rezko relationship:

"I don't recall."

Quote:

Responding to questions about Rezko and the home sale last month, the Obama campaign repeatedly cited the candidate's on-the-record statements: "I don't recall exactly" conversations about the house with Rezko; "I am not clear" how Rezko decided to join in the purchase; and "I may have mentioned to him the name of a [developer] and he may at that point have contacted that person."

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4315880&page=1

The guy writes two autobiographies recalling details of his entire life, but he DOESN'T RECALL how Rezko heard about the lot next door to the home he wanted to buy?

Pul-lease! Now I know waht B.O. stands for, he stinks when it comes to honesty.

Obama says, "I cannot do it by myself. No person can." but with Clinton we are expected to believe that she (the superhero) will fight for us (the little people) and win, she will "never stop fighting for those who fight for us", she "fought for universal health care", she "will end $50 billion in giveaways" all by herself, and all by fighting (rather than negotiating or working things out) for us. Now I ask you, which one is giving us a fairy tale?

On the NewsHour, David Brooks is Mr. Smarmy Congeniality.

But behind the safe cover of his column, he is transformed into his alterego, Mr. Unctious Sarcasm.

Mr. Brooks, may I ask: Who is the change YOU have been waiting for???

McBush, perhaps???

There is a cure for your persistent, chronic A.C.B. (Ann Coulter Bile) Syndrome, in case you are interested....

It's called: Change That We Can Believe In.

Can any of the Obama haters read? Read his books--he is quite open about his weaknesses and faults. But he is also quite eloquent and brilliant in his analysis of what is wrong with our politics and the SOLUTIONS to fix it. and it starts with the common theme of his political life- PULL BACK THE CURTAINS! OPEN THE DOORS! NO MORE SECRET DOUBLE DEALING!
You want to put earmarks into bills--fine--that will be widely posted pubic knowledge at lest 72 hours BEFORE any voting for it. He is about giving power back to the governed by simply exposing the special interests and what they are up to...That is the change we have been waiting for.

Or the Clinton supporters can have their hidden tax records, lobbyist written legislation, secret closed door meetings where Her Royal Clinton will give us all what we want--because she knows best --

I agree. He has written not one but two excellent books describing his positions in great detail. They reveal the deep thought and earnest consideration behind everything he says. Unfortunately, none of the carefully crafted chapters will fit into a three-minute news blurb so that portion of the public that draws its political education from TV coverage is missing out. Those are the people he needs to reach out to with his great speeches and inspiring words and that is exactly what he is doing and succeeding at.

"Why have we been waiting, since we've been here all along?" David Brooks asks.
Good question, really.
We have been waiting for Bush/Cheney/Rice to show us that they really did have a good reason to shove us into the national bankruptcy of their Iraq/Afghanistan quagmire.
We have been waiting for Pelosi & Company to do the right thing, now that Dems are in "control" of the Congress.
We have been waiting for the Supreme Court to show us that they are defenders of the Constitution.
We might as well have been waiting for Godot.
Now, Barak reminds us that our perseverance in waiting, waiting, waiting is because we have forgotten that WE are the prime movers of our own lives, the prime movers of our own country.
We have waited long enough. Now is the time for us to take action. Now is the time for us to take our country back.
Now is the time.

Brooks, Krauthammer et al are just attempting to create new Rethug talking points....it's such an obvious new version of Swift-boating. Apparently they believe Obama supporters are too stupid and sheep-like (see Krauthammer's recent column in the Washington Post which called Obama's supporters a "cult") to have made an informed decision about their support.

It really is quite sad...a candidate comes along who truly does inspire multiple generations of Americans, and all these sad and jaded members of the establishment can do is try and stomp on the American dream.

Pitiful....

Yes thats right Mr Stein "why have we (you) been waiting since (YOU have) we've been here (there) all along?

You are genius sir in that you have answered your own question.

Ms. Hillary hurt herself, she has run a poorly organized campaign, if you don't visit the people that you want to vote for you, how do expect to get them, to vote for you. The attacks, the Bill moments, changing her theme consistantly, Delegates, Super Delegates, S. Carolina, etc... She hurt herself in this campaign because she chose the Rove Road.

I love this comment below because it reveals that the American people had to go through 7 years of Bush, to get to the point we are at now, and that is not a compliment.
For example, His Hopeness tells rallies that we are the change we have been waiting for, but if we are the change we have been waiting for then why have we been waiting since we've been here all along?"

Hillary is toast and I am glad that Obama is winning. May the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton? years stay where they are in the past.

That is a bunch of whoee!! What he has tapped into is the unfiltered Clinton hatred. This is more about Bush Clinton then it is about him. 8 years ago, I predicted the American people would regret voting Bush in and finally get it right, well I was wrong about getting it right. task for ya, go to your next job interview and give a soaring speech and see if you get the job.

Obama has tapped into a deep vein in American culture, the need to believe in ourselves again. When he says "we are the change we have been waiting for", he melts himself into this gathering force and any competitor who trivializes that impulse in effect tells his growing numbers of supporters...you do not count, what you beleive in has no merit, your are immaterial to the process of governance. That in turn locks into a deeper sentiment that is at the bedrock of the American experience, government of the people, by the people and for the people. Obama is the first politican in a long time who has invited the people to the table... nothing is making for a more historical election than that. Competitors, beware of how you fight this candidacy, lest your critique also singe his supporters.

This is called "humility" and it's in precious short supply in Washington, DC (and, frankly, in our country as a whole over the last 7 years).

But I don't think that it's a "new line" Sam. If you paid close attention over the past year, you could see that this is intrinsic to his personality. The fact that he's said he'd try to bring in former Clintonites; his willingness to acknowledge contributions of Hillary and McCain; his stating that he and she were friends before and and will be again--all of this has revealed a humble man.

A year ago in NH he said to a roomful of reporters and cameramen who outnumbered citizens: "this must be a slow news day." He generated belly laughs with his unscripted wit on "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me." He's unlike any candidate I've seen in my years living/working in DC. As if this self-effacing man couldn't fathom why people were turning him, "a skinny kid with a funny name" into a rock star.

Most of professional Washington (including Hillary) see humility as a sign of weakness, and it's one of the reasons you never see it there. In DC, everyone presents a "front" of always being right (both McCain and Hillary are from this school of thought).

Obama's *knows* that his approach is actually one of strength; that when you admit that you're imperfect you deflate your opposition. What can you say to a man who admits that he's not perfect? How can you attack that? You can't.

Bill Clinton said "I didn't inhale." Barack Obama said "Of course I inhaled; that was the point." This is something that can't be easily learned at an older stage in life--you either are or are not humble. But it's definitely something that people rightly identify as deeply human--and not scripted--behavior.

Barack knows he's a great man. But he also knows that he's at the end of the day, he's just a man...
