Tim Gunn

Tim Gunn, the creative director for Liz Claiborne, star Bravo's "Project Runway" and host of "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" stopped by Conan last night to offer some fashion criticism about Hillary Clinton. In a recent Newsweek he broached the subject, suggesting Senator Clinton could learn from Nancy Pelosi's dress sense. He went further on Conan saying, "I think she's confused about what her gender is. She's so mannish in her dress."

Whatever. Tim Gunn is just talking about fashion. Which is his purview. People need to lighten it up a bit. The race is heated enough without everyone screaming that Tim Gunn is a misogynist, bigoted, hypocritical gay gender-phobe. Hillary's fashion is bad, he's right, and the clip is hilarious. It's ENTERTAINMENT.

You are so right.

Tim would be appalled if he ever got a look at my day wear, and I'd be the first to admit he should be.

It's fun. It's not earth shattering, people.

Topic is so silly, I couldn't be bothered to read it.

Then why comment?

Even though you couldn't be bothered to read it, you could be bothered to click on it and then bothered to post.

Mannish? Not really. Janet Reno? THAT was mannish.

Like others have said--is this even important? Hillary and Nancy Pelosi both should be able to dress however they please. Hillary has never been a clotheshorse, so good for her. I actually like her down-to-business look. Besides, if she was more "fashionable," some queen like Tim Gunn would be criticizing that, too.

Really, Tim, "mannish?" How unenlightened.

He's just making a joke cause she is always in a pantsuit these days. Why does she have to look like a man to run for President? Comment on that before you bash Mr. Gunn.

Well, about all these tediously endless pantsuit comments

I'd just like to point out that Obama is in a pantsuit every single day and no one is giving him grief about how many times he shows up wearing the same suit, right?

And besides one damn good reason you dont hear many of her peers dissing her is the we know too well how little choice the designers like Mr Gunn have written us off with.

If Mr Gunn was truly creative he'd see it as a challenge that a big chunk of the population is left with so few alternatives. No to mention the fortunes waiting to be made.

I do have to say that when ever I squander time watching fashion, now that I've gotten older there is always a little piece of me dying to charge whatever pampered fantasist is trendy this week to make some real clothes. Not merely gift wrap models who would look good in any old flotsam.

I hate to think of how much time and effort it takes to have the kind of closet that contains a female presidential wardrobe . Along with the realization that no matter what you wear, if you are a woman someone somewhere is going to say something snotty about it.

And at the same time you have to run the country. The women on the best-dressed list devote almost all their waking hours and huge chunks of their husband's money to stay on that list.
I'd rather be known for something other than being the best-wrapped package.
I just can't see the point in stressing out any more over anything on a hanger.

And I am at least the third generation of women trained from the cradle to be couturiers. I never thought all that taste and skill would have become so tangentially obsolete.

hillary wants to appeal tho the gawd-awful hausfraus who would usually vote repug.....
her understatement is just a calculated presentation.......I'm sure that if she were a lawyer in private practice, she'd be wearing very stylish business ensembles.
THAT is why I am voting OBABA 08

I just cannot take seriously the comments of anyone in the fashion industry- talk about a superficial vocation.

So offensive. As a very obviously gay man Tim should really think twice before saying things about the way other people express their gender. So ignorant.

Speaking of ignorance...just because he's gay, doesn't mean he questions his gender! He looks and acts like a gentleman.

Charles Nelson Rielly was less effected. Give me a break. He's past gay, he's ecstatic. You have to try pretty damn hard to be that overtly confused. There's nothing wrong with being gay, but most of the time, I honestly think Gunn is simply playing the character he thinks he's supposed to be, if he could only figure out what that is. So, no. He's not confused. Not at all.

This is JUST the sort of drivel that emerges in when we have a woman running for president for the first time.

Perhaps Mr. Gunn would like to provide commentary on the rather mundane outfits the other candidates wear.

Fashion forward, she is not. But the woman doesn't have the best legs (just read a sampling of very nasty posts about her on this website from some of the primates who have access to a keyboard) and it's likely she's reducing the moving target she is by one bullseye...

"Nancy run for President." On the basis of her fashion. You MUST be joking (and he probably is a little).

Seriously, who cares?

Clinton is a senator/ Presidential hopeful NOT one of your stupid models. To be clear, I support Obama. But there is no way in heck I and other women should have our clothing dictated to us to appear more "female" and "feminine". If women professionals want to wear black suits every darn day of the week then that is certainly our right. Clothing should be office appropriate. End of subject.

You want a pretty little Jackie O dress up doll, you are living in the wrong time.

Right on!!! let him pick on some of the horrid looking male canidates instead. I am tired of women being judged on how "pretty" we are for men, cant even catcha break from a gay guy!

It's not how pretty she is or isn't; it's how she dresses. I think Clinton dresses okay, but I see his point.

Well, Nancy Pelosi's husband picks out and shops for her cloths.

Who cares if Hillary wears pants suits or not? I don't. Nothing to do with the amount of gray matter in her brain.

As opposed to all of the "important" entertainment stories? Look what section of the site you are commenting in moron. What do you expect to see in the entertainment section? A dissertation on the TV viewing habits of Alan Greenspan?

You're the moron. This is only in the Huffington Post because Arianna wants Obama to beat Clinton and therefore publishes this crap.

Tim is not confused. He knows exactly who he is. Hillary knows exactly who she is, too, but she will NEVER come out of the closet. I think I would hate her less if she did.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:04 PM on 02/19/2008

if you want to hate those who are in the closet than you must really hate the GOP!!!
