Buffenbarger

Hillary Clinton's supporters got themselves a rousing warm-up oration from R. Thomas Buffenbarger, the president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Lots of Hillary fans got themselves uplifted and enthused by Buffenbarger's soaring rhetoric. But OH NOES! It looks like Buffenbarger forgot to attribute his remarks to the Child's Garden of Silly Right Wing Cliches, from which he generously cribbed:

BUFFENBARGER: I've got news for all of the latte-drinking, Prius-driving, birkenstock-wearing, trust-fund babies crowding in to hear him speak...So now we have a decision to make. will we rely on the Harvard Law Review editor, the silver-tongued orator from Kansas, Hawaii and Illinois? The man in love with the microphone?

The candidate made no attempt to distance herself from Buffenbarger's remarks. Through an aide, the campaign only offered that they were "proud to have the union's support." Yeah, so: WOO! Keep it "real" with the Yale Law School graduate from Illinois, Arkansas, and New York City!

Buffenbarger may be the biggest moron in the labor movement (which is saying a lot). Thanks to Clinton trade policies thousands of Machinists lost their jobs. So what does he do? Hands the IAM to Clinton on a silver platter! What a stupid sack of shit! Bill Winpisinger must be turning over in his grave.

Democrats- please take a moment to ask yourself- is this how we want to win this nomination? I understand the "whatever it takes" mentality- but these comments show a sense of disrespect to not only the candidate but to the people who support him.

I support Barack Obama- and no, I am not a "Hillary Hater"- yes, I'm frustrated by harsh criticism of her coming from my own side, the majority of Obama supporters do too. I don't want us to engage with this kind of politics- but its hard not to react. How can she claim to unite the democratic party when her surrogates dismiss the enthusiasm of over half of the party? How can she insist that she is fighting on behalf of those voices that support her when she fails to thank them for their support, for their volunteer work?

This is one big contradiction that has spiraled out of control and in the process enraged a huge part of the democratic electorate. I do not claim to know it all- hell, I'm one of the new comers, a 20 year old who felt compelled to participate as a result of a sentiment- yes, we are the change we've been waiting for. It started out as pure curiosity- that grew into volunteering that grew into a hunger to learn more about the democratic process and the democratic party. What's going on right now is remarkable- I've been on the ground throughout this campaign and I've seen it all-we will beat the republican party not because of our candidate but because of the involvement (especially among my age group) that he has sparked. My friends and I have traveled to canvas, have spent weekends making phone calls- we want this... not a nomination, not even a presidency- what we seek is REAL change, the kind of change that shifts the dynamics of this country, the kind of change that must be sustained by millions of voices...we're standing together and speaking together-please, stand with us.

Does that clown want all the people he insulted to just stay home in November? If that happens, his favored candidate will surely lose to McCain.
