Politico Continues To Push The Obama Support-As-Psychosis Meme

February 20, 2008 04:14 PM

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Well, if Paul Krugman wasn't hurriedly stocking his fallout shelter with canned prunes and bottled water to weather out the coming plague of Obama-inspired werewolf madness from beyond the moon, this recent article from the Politico is sure to send the columnist careening off to the nearest Costco. Entitled, "Obamamania verges on obsession," the article mixes some perfectly reasonable campaign supporters saying perfectly reasonable things with a couple quotes from daffy Hollywood stars to send the clear and unflinching message that while you don't have to be crazy to work for Obama, it sure helps!

"You do not get 13,000 people in this auditorium with a campaign," says Elijah Cummings. At first blush, it seems like a simple observation. But trust the Politico! The statement is "over the top!" Why, the very act of relating this statistic is "hyperbole!" Really, why isn't Cummings locked in some rubber room somewhere!

And what to make of George Clooney, who wants to "follow" Obama, and Halle Berry, who apparently wants to "collect paper cups off the ground to make his pathway clear?" Well, uhm...okay, that sounds a little crazy, I grant you. Even a lot crazy. But let's not forget that long before Obama came a long, Mr. Clooney and Ms. Berry were known to dress up as a "bat" man and a "cat" woman, respectively. And Berry used to pick up cups for Atlanta baseballer David Justice, which, in retrospect, we can all agree is much crazier.

But don't just take the Politico's word for it. Plenty of people worry about Obamamania! You shouldn't doubt their concerns just because they coincidentally happen to be his political opponents. Some of whom allow their surrogates to make perfectly sane, not-at-all manic arguments that compare Obama to ancient Roman gods and impugn the mainstream Democratic base as "latte-sipping, Birkenstock-wearing, trust-fund babies."

If you've any doubt left about how Obama is personally transforming America into a bunch of change-drunk, I Am Legend-style hope-zombies, consider the chilling case of Ross Avila:

Ross Avila, a senior at The University of Pennsylvania, drove more than 2,200 miles to volunteer in Iowa, New Jersey and South Carolina for the campaign.

"Iowa in January was so miserable," he says, remembering the single-digit temperatures.

"I can't imagine doing such grueling work for someone that I didn't believe in so much. I think he's very unique that way."

Good Lord! What sort of psychopath would volunteer to work on a campaign? It's madness, I tell you! Madness!

Moving on from the misogyny meme, Jason? So, the new strategy is to insult people who vote for Obama? Oh yeah, this will work no doubt.

Why does Huffpost give "The Politico" (their rival) any publicity at all? They are an INFERIOR site, and they are not worth it!!! Don't give them, Ann Coulter, Karl Rove, or other such IDIOTS, ANY publicity!!! We don't care about them!!! (We also don't care about "The View!")

Obama is refreshing.
Who could get excited about Hillary or McCain? Hillary has taken so much lobbyist money and "Maverick" McCain has done backflips for Bush.
If Politico wants to talk about mania- why don't they talk about the authoritarian mindset of the loyal Bushies. He's the worst
president in history and the most incompetent and corrupt administration and they still support him. Now that's MANIA!!!!!

Well, we do know that people with problems can very rarely recognize their own issues. So don't be so quick to dismiss.

And history has shown us that it isn't impossible for a large group of people (or the majority for that matter) to be completely blinded by an "exciting" public speaker.

I remember the Jim Jones tragedy. And this reminds me of the same kind of thing. I am not being dramatic or full of it. It is kind of scary to be on the outside, watching this *phenomenon* in action.

Watch the videos.

I mean, even all these fainting episodes at the Obama rallys...it is eerily similar.

And before you get mad at me, the Jim Jones followers were normal people too.

What bothers me is the blind support and love for Obama despite not just his lack of qualifications, but despite the offensive and unamerican rhetoric he employs:

“Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.”

Excuse me? Barack won't "allow" me? It's not the president's job to tell me how to live my life. It's not his job to convince me to do anything. And it's not his job to save my soul. It's his job to manage the government, be commander in chief of the armed forces, and sign laws. Enough already with this redemption crap. I like my life just fine the way it is and I don't need some unqualified freshman Senator telling me what to do.

The words you cite are a supporter's not his. As for qualifications, check out this piece comparing his legislative achievement's to Hillary's:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633

It details a comparison of their effectiveness in the Senate. I bet most anti-Obama types won't want to read this. They prefer to stay ignorant as to how much more Obama has accomplished legislatively in his brief tenure in the Senate than his opponent.

A president is not a legislator. Neither candidate is a Senate veteran. Hillary's experience as First Lady have prepared her for the office as much as anything can, as far as I'm concerned. I'll vote for your candidate if he promises to stop telling me how I should think.

Typical blather about blind support. It's not blind; there are good reasons to support Obama. If you don't agree with his policies, fine. But it's a flatout lie to say he is not qualified.

Check out Obama's accomplishments: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/21/164117/783?new=true

pretty impressive! Obama has sound judgement, good instincts and he is an honorable man.

People go to college doesn't make them intelligent, and in the case of obama shows their nothing but MORONS'.

LOL the media hyped the weak minded into a frenzy over obama portraying him as our savior, well at least some are SNAPPING OUT OF IT! If anyone believes obama the savior of politics your idiots and need to be on some type of anti-depressents, change comes with everything that is done, however obama isn't going to transcend and transform ideological beliefs held to the core of somes souls. The idea that he is going to go in and get accomplished things that need to get accomplished with out standing ground and fighting for it is ABSURD! Obama has proven that he isn't willing to take on the tough issues, he would rather cave to special interests than fight for the interests of "WE THE PEOPLE" Remember Exelon, Rezko. Oh thats right obamabites ae so entranced they can't understand the truth, here lets see it again on NBC:

Offerring "solutions" are just words too. If HRC has such great experience, why is she even running? Shouldn't her wonderful experience have gotten everything right by now? Shouldn't she have solved all the world's problems by now? Oh yea, that's right, she has to fix the problems she helped cause, like Iraq! How can any democrat vote for someone who voted for the war?! And if you aren't an HRC supporter and support the Red team, then we all know who is the moron.

These are the guys that announced Gonzalez' resignation a couple of months before it actually happened and surfaced last Monday with a manufactured version of Michelle Obama's "really proud" remark, a post I might add that Matt Drudge immediately removed from the Drudgereport. They have consistently hauled water for the Bushies through every winding turn...nuff said.

I have yet to meet a Republican to tell me that Obama would be the weaker candidate. Without exception, they despise Hillary Clinton, (perhaps irrationally), and will do everything in their power to defeat her.

Obama brings hope and the promise of change to a nation that is craving for leadership. Nearly 8-years of mismanagement and an administration based on fear is about to end.

I look to a future American that can solve its problems by including everyone in the solution. I look to a future America that is truly that beacon on the hill that Bush 41 spoke of. I look to America where fear is no longer the primary motivator, but hope for our families, friends, and communities.

If this is naive, I choose to be naive. Obama offers not just words, but the possibility of a better America. God help us if he fails us. This is not a cult of personality, but a collective hope for a better tomorrow.

I am a Ma. voter who voted for Deval Patrick and his message of hope. The message made me feel hopeful- the possiblities endless ,a new day was coming. I was happy that with Ma. history of busing and racial problems that we were finally putting our prejudice behing us. that being said the hope message didn't become reality. Deval wasn't ready as we had hoped. I don't think he's a bad person, I think he's idealistic message is still not working. i guess this i why Barack's plagarizing Deval speeched hit home for me. yes, what he did is plagarism, ask any high school student what would happen if the did the same thing on a paper for school. Having seen Barack speak before he was running and after he was at a rally at the commons I can say that his stump speeches have no real content. it feels like the last hopeful canidate that I voted for and did not deliver on the rhetoric. As a self -employed person I need some one who can really deliver action- not just rhetoric. As the Who said "we won't be fooled again"

52% thought GWB was just WONDERFUL and now he's down to 19%.
This is how citizens in the USA DO NOT KNOW how to pick leaders.
They want FRESH and GREEN instead of seasoned and experienced and ripe for the job.
The democrats overlooked some of the BEST we had and now the most qualified for this job is HILLARY and apparently no one cares about that. Its the FLOWERY speeches they want that say NOTHING !!! Obama doesn't even want to insure everyone so we are back to square one.
Obama will be training on the job and at this time of crisis we dont' need a GREEN TRAINEE.

It seems to us that the so called "Obama-mania", which is almost unbridled support for Barack Obama, although it is a testimony to the candidate's abilities and his message; is also a sign and symptom, with people's disgust with the present system in Washington, and the phony two-bit politicians that have been selling us down the road for too long.
Look at today's prices for health care; education; milk; bread; gasoline; and everything else that a price tag can be placed on.
So "Obama fever" is merely the gasping for oxygen, of hoping for the end of a corrupt system, taking back our government, by someone who promises us that he will do so. Unless, he is Balkanized, like Jimmy Carter was as
soon as he became the president.
America is a beautiful country; it was even
more beautiful in the past, though there were things not to be proud of and which needed correction-such as the discrimination against people of color, and discrimination due to gender. It is a time, now, to be truly proud of America.
So there you have it, the reason for
Obama-mania-We are sick and tired of the same old, same old; and the pack of lies, that we are fed, by all the politicians, like we were children of the age of 7.

Enough said.

It is time we stood up for something.

It's easy to "lose it" when that happens...

Not a permanent condition... the losing, that is.

The finding?

That's forever.

Thanks.

Obama stood before a Latina crowd here in Texas yesterday and promised the great amnesty for millions of illegal aliens which greatly pleased the crowd. No longer does Obama have the typical disclaimers, pay a fine, get in back of the line, learn English. No sir. He made the announcement that he wanted all Americans to learn a second language--that it wasn't just about Latinas learning English. He started finished that pandering session by saying, "Everyone in America needs to learn Sp-," but then he caught himself and switched Spanish to "a second language". In other words, he told the Latinas their illegal alien friends and family members not to worry about the "learn English " requirement, either.

Hillary must have been trying to outdo Obama. She made the statement to her Latina crowd that she promised she would put every single "immigrant" on the path of citizenship. She said they deserved that because they were hard working individuals. Never mind those who steal the identiy of citizens , causing all sorts of problems with that, never mind those using forged documents, never mind they get paid under the table to avoid taxes. No sir. They managed to sneak into the country and that's good enough for her. Last year, she voted against a bill that would at least forever bar convicted felons, illegal aliens who had been previously deported because of criminal activity and entered illegally again , or gang members such as MS13. Nope--she didn't want them excluded, either.

These two jerks are selling us out even worse than Bush tried to do when it comes to illegal immigration and that's an incredible fete to outdo him.

What amazes me is that Americans by the thousands are embracing the shouting of Spanish phrases by a man who shouted them while marching with illegal aliens and a senator from New York tells non Latinas to hell with them wanting border security first. Americans can't seem to wait until they turn this country into a third world status even faster than it's already becoming.

What...poor Hillary not getting enough attention, and Obaba supporters are psychotic? Is that what this is all about? I've got a solution to take the focus off of Barack Obama. It's quite simple: The media needs to start following Hillary around and plying her with questions. I'm sure that there are many of us out here in the real UNBIASED world that would like to hear the media ask Hillary why she did not use her influence to get Bill to REALLY focus on capturing Osama bin Laden. He'd been running around since 1993,...ObL I mean...oh well, never mind..

I just attended the Hawaii causus. The many people gathered there were Asian, Pacific Islander, black, brown, white, and mixed. They were young and old. They almost all supported Obama. They were hardly "latte sipping, birkenstock wearing, trust-fund babies". It was beautiful and exciting to see grass-roots at work. They were hardly 'Obamamaniacs' or 'Obamabots' or crazy. They were hopeful.
Great article, thank you.
