Shampoo
Today, as textured locks and full hair begin to eclipse the ironed and Japanese-straightened styles that were previously in vogue, weekly visits to salons are more common among women who were born since the Eisenhower administration. Women say it cuts down on bathroom time by eliminating daily blow-drying and is an excuse for more pampering when everything else has been polished and waxed.

Read the entire New York Times story here.

Experts have been advising that we skip the shampooing since... uh, probably since the invention of shampoo. Read more arguments here and here and here.

And, really, not washing your hair is so on-trend because blogger Verena von Pfetten just recently declared frizzy the new fabulous.

Check out a woman who has not washed her hair in 11 years.

Tell us in comments below: how often do you shampoo? And, please, be honest. We're not here to judge.

Eeeeeew. I shampoo every. single. day. Don't try to talk me out of it. People who don't shampoo smell musty. Ick.

I shampoo 2 to 3 times a week, depending on when I work and such. I live in a very dry climate so it does a lot of harm when I do it more often. I also use a good bit of BioSilk to add oil back to my hair right after I shower. I do color my hair, but only with low amonia dye, and only right after I have it trimmed, which is only 2 to 3 times a year.

I wash mine about every two days. I have very fine hair so it gets really greasified fast. I part my hair to the side and have a bit of a cow lick in the front, so there is always an annoying strand that sticks to my forehead! So becoming *smirk*.

I cut down my shampooing to every 3 days several months ago, and then cut the shampoo out entirely in December. It looks great, it's actually less frizzy than before. I massage my scalp every morning with fingers, hot water, and conditioner, and then I condition the rest of it. If I start to feel some product buildup after a couple of weeks, I use some Devachan No-Poo, but I find that my hair looks better w/just the conditioner for daily use. My friends assure me that my hair doesn't look greasy, it feels softer and healthier, and I save money on shampoo.

Should read: "The Chinese have been exporting human hair to Fla".

It was reported that the Chinese have been importing human hair in "matt" form and it is being used in Fla as a weed retardant. IT WORKS!
It saves this grower $400k a year and like 35,000 pounds of pesticides and insecticides.

It showed a 3 month view of two plants in pots. One treated with insecticide and manure, the other plant had a round "matt" of 2 inch thick human hair covering the dirt.. The pot with hair had virtually "NO WEEDS" and the other had a significant amount of weeds despite spraying every two weeks for 3 months..

When its ten below for two weeks and everybody is coughing with a cold its wise not to get your head wet.
But tell me more about this dry wash thing.
I had a girlfriend that used to put flour in her hair when she didn't have time to wash it.
It fluffed it up, and it worked for her because her hair color was wheatstraw anyway.

Try a bit of corn starch - just at the roots, then comb through; It should gather up a bit of natural oil but give it some body. This is circa high school '60's, but we used baby power and I guess the talc isn't OK now. Whew, did we have it easy, and are alive to talk about it.

I shampoo every other day or every third day, depending on how it looks when I get up in the morning. My hair has become more dry with age, and if I get a good blowout I can go a few days without shampooing it. Of course, you need to brush the oils through it, but I stopped washing every day when I read that Debra Messing washes her hair every 3-4 days to keep her color vibrant.

I shampoo maybe once a month and the people at the salon constantly tell me how beautiful and healthy my hair looks. I also find that shampooing strips my hair of its natural oils, which makes it more dry and frizzy.
