Newsweek:

When it comes to teens and drug abuse, prescription medications (or "pharmies") are now second only to marijuana in popularity. Overall, teen abuse of illicit drugs is down 24 percent since 2001, according to the University of Michigan. But prescription drugs are another story. An estimated 2.1 million teens are abusing them -- a figure that has hardly changed since the government's National Survey on Drug Use and Health started tracking it in 2002.

A side effect of Ambien is "sleep eating."

Really! I actually made a meal, ate it, and found the left overs the next morning in the fridge.

Just what our obesity problem needs: eating while you are asleep.

All drugs are a kind of poison, whether they are legal or illegal it doesn't matter.

Prescribed medications can be dangerous that's why they are prescribed.

There are far too many drugs available for people who need to learn how to deal with their emotions without a crutch.

Once you remove the pain, via a drug there is no incentive to change anymore.

But your life will be on hold till you stop using.

The prescription drug industry has over 100,000 sales people and more than one lobbyist per person in the senate and house.

From misleading advertisements and creating "diseases" to outright lying and price scheming the Rx industry must be held accountable.

One thing you can do is share your story with the nonprofit organization Prescription Access Litigation (http://www.prescriptionaccess.org/blog) and become a possible plaintiff in one of our lawsuits told the companies accountable.

You do realize that there is an ad for an ambien web site with "free samples" offered on the same page as this article.

Hmm, I've never heard of Ambien. Is it similar to being "hopped up on goofballs"?

The war on drugs makes too much money, and provides a way for our government to pander to those who think there really is a way to stop drug use. I mean, we encourage some drug use, while slamming others, and the ones we allow are way more destructive and dangerous than the main one people are against!

The war against marijuana is a way to cater to those who simply cannot accept a realitiy where people might want to get high, and not be a danger to anyone in the process.

Science fiction is often stunningly accurate when it comes to projecting the future.

I wonder if Sci-Fi is as accurate about the end results of our constant "war on drugs" as it has been about so many other things?

You see, I don't recall a single novel or short story featuring a drug free world or future...

Of course, some movies (like the "Terminator" series, or "The Matrix" series) don't have drugs - but I for one think that their solutions are a tad too radical.

But Marijuana is the main bad guy in the "war on drugs"? Hypocritical bullcrap!

No, it's the gateway to "hard drugs".
Tobacco & alcohol are the gateways to pot, but they are "legal and regulated".
