Michael Moore: Insurance Industry Would Love Hillary\'s Healthcare Plan

en. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) proposal to mandate that all people purchase health insurance would be a boon to the industry, filmmaker Michael Moore said Friday. "Can you imagine, every time Sen. Clinton says that, the licking of the lips that goes on with these health insurance executives?" Moore said during a conference call with reporters.

Moore, director of the Academy Award-nominated documentary "SiCKO" about the U.S. healthcare system, criticized both Clinton and her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), for failing to support a universal system of government-financed health coverage during their runs for the White House. "The two Democratic candidates don't quite get it," he said.

Hillary's dead brain is no place for logic:

"The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal."

Both Edwards and Clinton want Universal Health Care and Obama is the one who will only mandate children. Obamas plan is a bit mnaive; as without mandates we would have never had medicare or social security from the very beginning. Everyone has to be in it or it doesn't work. leaving out parents..the breadwinners is Obamas plan...he just hasn't thought this one out, as without the parents if they get sick..everyone suffers kids too. Hillarys plan has help for those who cannot afford payments....so just as Edwrds stated as well...you will never have Universal care if you don't include all as only a portion of the nation will doom it to failure....The reason Social security is now failing is because after a certain date in the 80's they put people on s different plan and no longer SS so without all it is failing

Headline is unfair. Moore likes neither hers nor Obama's plan.

The thing that really surprises me about Hillary's health care proposals is this: how could she EVER have come to endorse the execrable idea of mandating that people purchase their own insurance? It sounds as bad as something the Republicans would dream up! Of course, the Republican solution to ALL the world's problems is to drop more bombs abroad and put more people in jail at home, so they'll probably propose putting people in jail for not paying doctor bills, and declaring war on all countries that have single-payer health care systems. The public is being put through hell. What's needed is massive non-cooperation a la Mahatma Gandhi.

It's like the current Massachusetts plan, which was dreamt up by Demos & Repos + some MIT people. Apparently no one noticed how regressive it is, but as has been noted, Big Insurance *loves* it, which means they won't be giving HRC such a hard
about it as back in the day, and that counts for something.

In any case, it's not something the Repos will do on their own any time soon.

Why is Hillary Clinton's name in the title of this article, while Barack Obama's is not though Michael Moore said the exact same thing about his plan. Oh that's right, it's so anyone that reads the title but not the article will be deceived about what Michael Moore said. Nothing really so new about the "Obama" politics.

Just because things are the way they are, is no excuse to leave them that way.
The only reason things don't change is because everyone of us sits on our collective ass, and says Nothin to be done; that is just the way it is...
Keep in mind that that is what they said about slavery, too.

"Justice. THEN Peace."

We do not need National Health Care COVERAGE in this country. What we Need is National Health CARE.
By doctors and nurses, not freaking Insurance salespeople, and claims adjustors. What the hell do they know about testicle cancer, anyway?
(The answer is nothing at all.)

Kudos to you wilburbudd!
So many people don't know the difference. But in our day and age, a person wants coverage, when what they really want is care.
As a health care practitioner I can tell you that coverage actually covers care more and more less frequently.
WE WANT CARE!

And he's absolutely correct, sir...
Her idea of National Health CARE might just as well have been written by the Insurance Industry itself. Probably was.
And I do not care one jot ot tittle if it becomes law, I WILL NOT BE FORCED TO PAY FOR, OR BUY, INSURANCE. Throw me in jail, bee-otch. Then I'll have Health Care, and there won't be any insurance company involved at all.
I would rather pay my doctor for services rendered, than an god D**ned insurance company for services, or arguements, that I may never need. And I am certainly not paying anyone in advance for services they are going to argue about forever, and probably never pay. Which would leave me paying my doctor for her services anyway, but with little or no money left to do so, after I've been paying the shilocks at the insurance company. Insurance is Protection, just like the mob of old, but at least then when you paid, YOU GOT THE PROTECTION.
Don Pesticci -- help...

Does anyone think it's weird that a man that looks and probably is so unhealthy is leading the charge for health care?

Would you take diet tips from this obese man too?

Who knows how you look like you moron. Healthy Living = Being happy + Social Life. Those are the two most important factors for a long and healthy life. You are bombarded with garbage and you throw it here with your prejudices. See the Research done by visiting great scientific Web Sites. Isolation kills and makes killers out of people. Michael Moore has friends all over the world, laughs, ...and he is happy: Are you?

If Michael Moore criticized both Hillary's and Obama's plan equally, it is understandable because he beleives in Single payor universal health care plan. At this point when the system is so established since long, probably single payor system is not easily acheivable though meritorious. So, as a first step it may be worthwhile to bring about universal health care and at the same time plan for a single payor system including incorporation step by step which could make health care for every body more viable.

No, because the "first step" would strengthen the insurance industry to such an extent that the "second step" would be impossible.

First step - force everyone to buy private insurance, thus making them wealthy and powerful beyond belief.

Second step - put forward legislation that would wipe out the private insurance industry with the stroke of a pen.

Am I the only one who thinks that's totally unworkable?

All of the people posting the comments about "yellow journalism" or decrying the Obama slant are idiots. This is an article from TheHill.com merely quoted here. The title everyone is so up in arms about is thehill's not huffpost's but I'm sure all of you were too busy overreacting to notice the link directly below the title.

Hillary's plan is nothing but a steady influx of cash for her friends in the health insurance business.

True. But, ditto for Obama's plan. That explains why they receive similar amounts from the health insurance industry. She gets a little more from them. He gets a little more from the drug companies. Do you give enough to either to get their ear?

cognito ergo populistae.

I think "Sicko" is Moore's best movie to date. When I saw the headline, I thought, "WOW he's going after Hillary Clinton's plan and not Obama's? I respect his opinion on this and need to learn the truth here." So I read the entire article.

The truth is that Moore is critical of both candidate's plans. I should have known Huffpost would attempt to distort reality, in Obama's favor, yet again. Sad, what's become of this site.

You're right, Huff is leaning towards Obama on that, and it's regretable. Huffpo has the makings of a better journalistic product then that.

However, it's not wrong to point out that had Hillary worked harder to represent more of our working/middle class, and taken on a more independent tone of campaign that was against so many corporate entities and been a true progressive, then Huffpo would be one of her strongest and probably most demonstrable supporter in the nation. It's a real shortcoming and dsiappointment that Hill and her campaign have gone into this with such a failed strategy.

I find it to be interesting, though I am not at all surprised, that the Huffpo headline basically says that Michael Moore slams Hillary's healthcare plan instead of Michael Moore slams Hillary and Obama's plans. He calls them both loser plans, but if one just reads the headlines like half the illiterate morons who read this site, it would appear that Michael Moore loves Obama's plan. PATHETIC but typical.
