Candidates Still Actively Pursuing Bill Richardson Endorsement

Lots of people are calling Gov. Bill Richardson these days, "just to check in."

Barack Obama calls every three days or so. He called on Friday of last week, but Mr. Richardson was tied up with the Legislature, so he tried again on Monday and left a message on voice mail ("following up from Friday") before finally connecting with his defeated presidential rival late Tuesday, and then again two days later.

Don't know when the pic was taken, but Bill Clinton doesn't look too happy in it.

My advice to Bill R. -- anyone who throws their lot in with the Clintons, deserves the political grave they are destined for.

Bill R looks like he is not only enjoying the game but also really enjoyinng forcing Bill C to watch the game. Bill C probably doesn't even like football so double whammy ha ha!

I don't think either side needs richardson. That is a misnomer. If they have what it takes to win, can tell the truth, call the issues as they see them, how to fix them, this guys' approval or backing is unneccessary. Look, the people are going to go with whom they see as a fresh face in DC. Trying to get an endorsement at this point shows they are not sure of themselves, are somehow worried, not good for a campaign. Both Obamma and Clinton are capable people, smart, and able to run the country, and may the best candidate win. Let this one go and focus on the outcome, not what could be.

After Hillary's recent flare up, I don't see either Richardson or Edwards endorsing her.

I also frankly don't think I'll have much respect for them now if they keep sitting on the fence. If they really are for the best for America, they have to know Hillary a disaster; and they should use their influence against that disaster. But perhaps they are just poiticians after all!

I would have liked to see Richardson as the nominee, but I knew that wasn't likely to happen.

If he continues to withhold his endorsement, I'll likely send him more money, to retire his debt, in a few months. Another reason to remain on the sideline is that he'd make a GREAT Secratary of State for ANY Democratic President, without the possibilty of sacrificing a Senate seat, like if Biden were asked.

I'd also like Dodd to replace Harry 'what Constitution' Reid as Majority Leader.

I hate to say this, but I'm short on patience...I'd tell both of them to go to h***! It's obvious to me that Obama has not told them what they want to hear. He hasn't pandered to them. He's not going to owe anyone if he does win. That's exactly where Sheila Jackson-Lee, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, and Charlie Wrangel are with the Clinton camp. They cannot say NO to the Clintons because they owe them. The Clintons have bailed them out somewhere along the way and now they are in their debt. Shame! I do not blame Barack, if Richardson and Edwards cannot come along for the good of the party, then let them stay where they are!

I totally agree.

Shame on you Hillary, for stiffing the people of Iowa!!!

I wonder why no one is waiting for the endorsements of Dennis Kucinich or Mike Gravel. They had some very good and viable ideas for America. Maybe the Greens will want their endorsements. Republican party=dead; Democratic party=dying. Thank God.

Mostly because Mike and Dennis combined give 7 votes to the nominee! Not delegates, but votes.

Blah, blah, blah. Identical to your post.

He's hoping to be Vice President, so he's waiting to make sure he doesn't endorse the loser.

I find the picture for this story to be hilarious. Richardson after losing the race seems to be relaxing and having a good time enjoying watching the football game while Bill looks very pathetic and appears like he was forced to be there.

How about that scruffy look of his?

Total speculation. Here in New Mexico, Richardson is very busy with a temperamental legislature, has to resubmit bills, big flap over school board in Santa Fe, big flap over this, that....he's busy being the Governator.

Why should he endorse? He wanted it to be him. It should have been him, Biden, Edwards, Dodd...

You are so very right !!

I was on the Biden bandwagon; however Edwards, Dodd and Richardson are also very qualified.
However, when have my fellow Democrats used good logic in choosing a candidate?
At this point, Senator Clinton is by far the most qualified to be president of our great country.

I truly believe that Obama CANNOT beat Senator McNutty. That's a sad and scary thought.

The country is aught up in the emotion of Obamamania and we will all pay the price.

Bill Clinton: Geesh..what I have to sit through to get this chump's endorsement..

Next?

Sorry that if and when we vote in Oregon the field won't include Mr. Richardson. Maybe I'll just be able to write him in? It'll be nice to have my say.

No matter who he endorses, if he endorses, I think Bill Richardson is a good and honest man. A rarity in politics.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:37 PM on 02/23/2008

Well, I thought he was good and honest but this prima donna act is getting old with both Richardson and Edwards.

Bill picked up the phone and screams" weren't two goddam cabinet positions enough, goddammit?" and Richardson replies that he thought he was chosen because he was qualified and not as an act of patronage.True story.

He should send Clintons back to their vipers' nest, endorse Obama and remain the fair and decent man he is. He cannot endorse Clinton and remain a good, fair and decent man.

"He should send Clintons back to their vipers' nest, endorse Obama and remain the fair and decent man he is."

He won't. He's dying to endorse Clinton, but he's afraid she may not win. He doesn't want to be on the outside looking in. He'll wait for Texas, hoping she can turn this around. If she does, he'll be on her bandwagon.

I think you have this guy pegged wrong... Richardson is a card-carrying member of the DLC. He is as Republican-lite as the Clintons, which is largely why Dems in Iowa and NH rejected him so soundly.

Except his "sitting on the pot for so long"

has dimmed his credibility.

He will endorse but when? Why take so long?

All of this time just makes him look weak.

16 years ago I decided that Bill was a straight shooter, being the only candidate that could give short definitive answers to hardball questions. Unfortunately we ended up with the wrong Bill.

BR had a minor issue, namely he has trouble telling the truth:

Plus, he's an ethnic nationalist:

But, the capper is him shilling for a pan-American group at the same time as he was running for president of the U.S.:

If Richardson thought he could deliver, he already would have.

He is simply protecting his imagine.

He has nothing to offer.

Don't do it Bill!

Stick with Gore, Biden, Edwards and the rest of the real leaders of our party.

Let the voters decide!!

Hillary Clinton voted for a war that has cost us $2 trillion, 4,000 American lives and a million Iraqi lives so far, and may yet bankrupt this nation. She has been tested, and she has failed.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:02 PM on 02/23/2008

Yes, she's been tested and she's FAILED.

So why does she keep saying it? Why doesn't SHE understand that her "test" isn't her strength?

I resented the way she talked about the Iraq war veterans and their terrible injuries. She was so "sympathetic" and yet....does she ever show she feels any RESPONSIBILITY for deaths and wounds from this war?

No. She's as detached from HER responsibility as GWB is.

When asked about making an endorsement right after he'd withdrawn from the race, he told Olbermann on Countdown that he only asked that the candidates run positive campaigns, meaning no mud-slinging. We've since seen the Clinton campaign go into attack-mode. Because of his allegiance to those friends of his, his silence on the matter might be the closest he's been able to manage for an endorsement. I really don't think his, or even John Edwards' endorsements, will really make much of a difference at this point anyway.

Richardson's only value is being able to campaign in Latino areas. Other than that, he's worthless. He really doesn't have all that much sway, and he has the charisma of a canned ham.

As much as I disagree with your assesment of Richardson,... "HE HAS THE CHARISMA OF A CANNED HAM". Now, Now, that is soo funny! I didn't see it coming it just hit me like a ton of bricks. LOL(bigtime).

Actually, Bill Richardson is the most qualified for the job of president of all the candidates, if you were to look at resumes only. He has diplomatic experience, and has served as Energy Secretary, congressman and governor.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:11 PM on 02/23/2008

Why? I do not his endorsement is worth all the efforts. His state already voted and I do not think he has that many supporters nationally (as his failed candidacy is testimant).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:36 PM on 02/23/2008

He's still got some Latino clout--and some foreign policy credibility.

More than that, his endorsement of Obama would send a shockwave through the Clinton camp.

It's obvious Bill has applied TREMENDOUS pressure to keep Richardson from endorsing Obama, even though he clearly doesn't want to come out for Hillary.

If Richardson bucked that pressure to support Obama anyway, it would be VERY symbolic to the Clintons.

But...he won't. He'll wait till Ohio and Texas shake out rather than incur two VERY powerful enemies (and who, according to Dee Dee Myers, DO hold grudges forever).
