Las Vegas Nudity

On the heels of the FCC attempting to fine ABC affiliates for airing a shot of naked buttocks (which, incidentally, CNN aired by accident during the Serbian riots earlier this week), NBC is under fire from the conservative watchdog group Parents Television Council for allowing naked women to be seen on last week's episode of "Las Vegas."

From the Hollywood Reporter:

The PTC said they filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission over NBC's Feb. 15 broadcast of the "Vegas" season conclusion. In the episode, three shadowy naked women are shown on a casino's security monitor.

The complaint comes a day after ABC appealed a $1.2 million FCC fine levied for a nude scene in a 2003 episode of "NYPD Blue." "Vegas" typically airs at 10 p.m., but the PTC noted the show runs at 9 p.m. in the Central and Mountain time zones.

PTC President Tim Winter accused NBC of trying to test the government regulatory agency in the wake of the "NYPD" decision.

"NBC seems eager to test the FCC's resolve to fine stations for violating broadcast decency laws," said Winter. "It's like they're trying to find some sort of standard for making it through FCC's guidelines."

Read more about the complaint at the Hollywood Reporter, or watch the clip below and judge for yourself whether it should have been aired:

This is what happens when you let Pentecostals run major federal agencies.

According to their website, the PTC is equally opposed to violence and seeks "to promote and restore responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry in answer to America's demand for positive, family-oriented television programming."

During the same time-slot on the same night that "Vegas" episode aired how many murders, sexual assaults, domestic assaults, or other crimes of violence were featured on other TV shows? Of those, how many were the subject of complaints from the PTC?

If the answer is anything less than "all of them" then the PTC needs to admit its hypocrisy and then STFU.

Obviously, the PTC has never been outside the United States.

Send 'em to Holland, and let 'em have a mass coronary!

Remember it was Holland the pilgrims found to be to tolerant, so they sailed here. Some things never change.

There was nudity in that?

I must have blinked...

It is much better for older children who are normally up at that hour to see violence, murder, decapitations, torture, than to see a flash of a possible naked person...

If we don't clean house in November, I'm moving.

we all know "broadcast" tv is in a losing competition with cable and in particular hbo...this was far tamer than the nudes at the bada bing in the sopranos...i wish the conservatives would worry about the obscenity of violence rather than the alleged obscenity of female bodies and sexuality in general. (not that i need to see any more gratuitous sex scenes, its just i'd rather see fewer gratuitous violent/gory scenes)...

The indecency in this clip is the hedonistic Vegas casino.

I guess they must have cut some scenes out of the video clip. I've watched it twice and I'm still looking for the nudity.
If they are referring to a few blurry pix of butts flashing by in the background, on any good day, your local beach will show more flesh than that.
What a fuss over nothing!

let me say this politely:

This (attempt to label the scene as obscene) is why people in other more enlightened parts of the world think America has become a bit of a joke ...

You guys are rapidly becoming the Christian version of radical Islam...

Hopefully a new broom will sweep clean in November ...

Surely you jest, 'America has become a bit of a joke'. How about a 'full blown, 24 carat, raving, wild eyed, 110% pure international laughing stock'! Hypocrisy reigns supreme!

Goodness, all those NBC viewers who had never before seen someone's naked ASS - it's enough to cause permanent damage to their fragile little psyches. The humanity.

Good thing we have the ultra-conservative right-wing whack-o's to protect us. Otherwise we would have to see the human body in its natural form instead of the blood and guts we get to watch three days out of every week on CSI.

Pinheads.

As a proponent of sex and nudity on TV, I find the violence in the scene disgusting.

The first lady jokes about watching Desperate Housewives.. from the little I've seen of that show it has showed more skin than this absence of nudity.

Damn it, almost got me interested.

Indecent Indeed!! What makes a living, naked body indecent? We all are in possession of one. Syndicated TV crime dramas depict mutilations, dismemberments, and a wide variety of bloodbaths, and viewers seemingly can't get enough of it! At the same time there are dire warnings on shows which may horrifically depict "indigenous nudity". Fearful parents lock their children away in their rooms so that they won't be forever psychically scarred by seeing a living, naked, human being. Remember the insane, epileptic national furor over the split second visage of Janet Jackson's pastie-covered boob? You'd think the whole civilized world was coming to an end! I guess (according to our moral watchdogs) that viewing living, naked boobs and butts is far more threatening to our culture's moral integrity than body parts that have been blown apart by roadside bombs, or other instances of violent, societal depravity.

Just to nitpick- Janet was not wearing pasties. Her nipple is pierced and that was a fantastic piece of hardware that she was wearing.

What I see when I look at this is just a suggestion of nudity, not the real thing. Fake, fake, fake. For the good stuff I go to cable. Like, anyone seen "Californication" on HBO? Or "Tell Me You Love Me?" Enough nudity and sex there to raise even a liberal's dander.
Fortunately, I'm a libertarian, so I'm allowed to watch it. It's almost like watching regular TV in Europe.
