Conservative Watchdog Group Files Complaint Over Nudity On NBC's "Las Vegas"

On the heels of the FCC attempting to fine ABC affiliates for airing a shot of naked buttocks (which, incidentally, CNN aired by accident during the Serbian riots earlier this week), NBC is under fire from the conservative watchdog group Parents Television Council for allowing naked women to be seen on last week's episode of "Las Vegas."

From the Hollywood Reporter:

The PTC said they filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission over NBC's Feb. 15 broadcast of the "Vegas" season conclusion. In the episode, three shadowy naked women are shown on a casino's security monitor.

The complaint comes a day after ABC appealed a $1.2 million FCC fine levied for a nude scene in a 2003 episode of "NYPD Blue." "Vegas" typically airs at 10 p.m., but the PTC noted the show runs at 9 p.m. in the Central and Mountain time zones.

PTC President Tim Winter accused NBC of trying to test the government regulatory agency in the wake of the "NYPD" decision.

"NBC seems eager to test the FCC's resolve to fine stations for violating broadcast decency laws," said Winter. "It's like they're trying to find some sort of standard for making it through FCC's guidelines."

Perhaps its the fact I grew up with a father who is a successful artist, who used nude models much like Rembrandt used oils. I have seen nudity since I was born. There is nothing wrong with nudity. People who have issues about thier own bodies have issues with nudity. Those who have chosen to censor anything with nudity are hypocrites. Its ok to show men dying for a war we didn't ask for, to show Bush and his rich cronies behaving like pigs as the rest of the world suffers. Its ok to show that. Someone shows the butt of a person and suddenly we all get censored? Don't think so. If you go back to the rennaissance, nudity was deregeur and nobody blinked. In any other country, nudity isn't an issue.
Evangelicals and others who can't deal with it, want to tell me how to live, what to watch, read, listen to, ect, better know, you will NEVER censor me. Its called freedom. You don't like it, leave this country. I am not going to change who I am, what I was raised with, how I vew the human body becuase some constipated person can't deal with a bit of nudity. The FCC has abdicated their original assignment: to make sure that the airwaves are used to serve the public and that the frequencies don't overlap. The airwaves are now being used to strictly for the profits of the owners, public be damned. Radio stations play the same three songs over and over and read cards that say "Now a station you can call your own". Unless you're a right wing asshole, you cannot say anything. It offends people. Most owners of radio and TV paid way too much for their properties. So they are paralyzed with fear that they won't make enough. So they play it safe. And their concern about nudity, even undiscernable nudity, is truly bizarre. Everybody is naked under their clothes. We were born naked. But it upsets some so we all have to listen to their pontificating on morality. This is sick behavior from a sick bunch of regulators.
