Texas Turning Into The Capital Of Wind Power

Texas Wind

New York Times:

The wind turbines that recently went up on Louis Brooks's ranch are twice as high as the Statue of Liberty, with blades that span as wide as the wingspan of a jumbo jet. More important from his point of view, he is paid $500 a month apiece to permit 78 of them on his land, with 76 more on the way.

"That's just money you're hearing," he said as they hummed in a brisk breeze recently.

And yet no Iraqis were slaughtered to bring forth this energy. Who'd have thunk?
07:46 PM on 02/24/2008
They should put them in Washington DC, that is where the wind really is!
Of course the blades will turn brown with all the bull sh*t that is there.

Yet the Swimmer Ted Kennedy won't allow wind farms off his mega carbon footprint but Pres Bush' extolls and supports... Capitalism does work , communism ((ChangeandHope) does not ... And the glopalphobiacs have nothing to do with efficiency... Hell the greenies and the Goracle will now protest this as it is actually man made climate change

If communism doesn't work, then why does China now have most of our jobs? Why do we play "nicie" with China all the time?

'Texas Turning Into The Capital Of Wind Power."

Texas has always been the capital of big winds.
09:58 AM on 02/24/2008
As a former Texan, I always knew they had a surplus of hot air to utilize; who'd of known it would be for a useful GREEN purpose?

As a former Kansan, why Kansas isn't the leader in wind energy, I've never understood.

Perhaps now Texas will go to war with Kansas to steal their wind?

You mean the largest Republican state
full of all those moral right wingers
have given in to the global-warming

To all the propeller-heads: You guys are awesome, I wanted to do that but I couldn't afford the school, plus in all honesty I'm scared to death of being that high up in the air. Proof-of-concept on the science, though.
You guys rock! More with the geek-power, less with the oil crap. 21st century and stuff.
Martians on the march!

Well duh, all from the massive amounts of hot air george left behind.

Most of the wind comes from Crawford about six months a year.

Good on 'em. I hope we become the OPEC of wind energy someday.

How are the birds reacting? Or are there birds in Texas?

I think the newer windmills are not as dangerous to birds as the older ones were.

The number of birds that are killed by windmills are dwarfed by the numbers that die flying into lighted buildings at night.

SEE EVERYONE, CAPITALISM WORKS!! IF YOU STOPPED HATING CAPITALISM SO MUCH, YOU COULD JUST BUILD YOUR ELECTRIC CARS, WIND MILLS, AND ANYTHING ELSE FOR A PROFIT. NOBODY IS STOPPING YOU.

honey, WHY DON'T YOU SHOUT ABOUT ALL THE MASSIVE SUBSIDIES THE REPUBLICANS KEEP GIVING TO OIL AND COAL?

or is that what you mean by capitalism? purchasing elected officials on the free market?

Massive subsidies for oil, gas, and, sir, you forgot nuclear for many DECADES, versus a few pennies on the dollar for every other form of alternative energy put together, and THOSE subsidies are stopped every few years, yanking the rug from under businesses just getting on their feet.

Gee, I wonder why alternative energies have a hard time "competing" in a "free market"?

I wonder what on earth people like "Advocate" use for brains.

The energy wind mill boom is perfect for Tejas. The oil is gone. It is proving to be difficult to turn the immense quantities of bull shit Tejas constantly produces into clean burning methane. The hot air Tejanos release even while sleeping can run the energy wind mills & generate much needed energy cheaply. It is too bad the the DC is too small & crowded for wind mill farms since DC's denizens, politicians & bureaucrats produce as much hot air as the entire state of Tejas produces. DC hot air could power the entire DelMarVa region if wind mills could capture the hot air to generate power. DC: so much hot air, so little space.

I apologize for the double post. I hope that HP's editors &/or monitors delete my 2d post. Even when double posted my bull shit comments don't reach the volume generated in DC & Tejas in a nanosecond. It humbles me.
